Name the announcer who said this, and also the game that it came from:

"The Buckeyes have been magnificent for two and a half seasons. All today proves is that they are, after all, human."

Not Musberger.

Remember that along with the announcer, guesses should include the game.

I'm going to guess Chris Speilman.

Neither Herbstreit nor Speilman.

Two clues:  It is NOT anyone associated with Ohio State.  He is someone who called games for ABC but is now deceased.

Hmmm. Sounds like something a former coach would say and I was think Ara Parseghian, but he isn't deceased.

Another clue:  this was said during a game in the Schenkel era.

Please give the announcer and the game.  So far, people are only guessing the announcer.

Imma guess Howard Cosell, 1969 game versus Michigan. I think osu hadn't lost a game since the 1967 season, so that would fit the "the past 2 and a half years" part of the puzzle. Also, an ABC announcer who is now deceased.

I  know Schenkel did the 1972 OSU-Michigan game because my parents saw him eating dinner at the Clarmont on South High Street that night.  If not Schenkel and if we are possibly talking about the OSU streak ending in 1969, my second guess would have to be Michigan Grad Bill Flemming.

BobcatGrad and C Money: Good work! It was ABCs Bill Flemming doing play by play at end of the 1969 Ohio State vs. Michigan game. One of the iconic games in college football history. Ohio State came in with a 22 or 23 game winning streak and had won the national title the season before. In the 1969 season, OSU had destroyed every team on its schedule, was rated #1, and rolled into Ann Arbor as 14-17 point favorites. Since OSU had gone to the Rose Bowl the season before, the Big 10 would not allow them to go in 1969, so this was OSUs last game of the season regardless of outcome. Michigan, under first year coach Bo Schembechler, blindsided the Buckeyes and rolled to a 24-12 win, cost OSU the national title and an undisputed Big 10 title.

It would pay you to go to youtube and find the last few minutes of this game. I have never seen such bedlam in a post game celebration. Field completely swarming with people. Both teams trying to exit through the same tunnel. Fans carry Jim Mandich off the field on their shoulders and he has tears streaming down his cheeks. Woody is several steps in front of Mandich, his cap having been knocked off, and he is being jostled as he leaves the field. IMO, there has never been another scene like it.

Bob Griese, just before Kordell Stewart's Hail Mary to beat Michigan.

That was one of the first college football games I ever attended in person. Our seats were on the 20yd line where all of the receivers and DBs piled up just before the ball landed in Michael Westbrook's hands. No offense to Doug Flutie, but that Kordell bomb was a better play. He launched that thing almost 70 yards.
