The words "Believe" and "Relentless" are more than words. Those words epitomized Solich's playing style, and his coaching style. Some players fully adopt those words, and make them their own, and it affects how they play, while others do so to a lesser extent. We can all think of players to whom those words apply. Which overall team do you think played as a group in the style you would expect from these words? It doesn't have to be a team that necessarily had the most talent, but rather a team that never gave it less than their best, and never gave up.

I voted 2006, but I was leaning heavily on voting for 2005. Even though they had a losing record, they beat Pitt at home in a real "coming out party" for the Bobcats on national TV. Peden never looked better.

I think at that point, the team, coaches and fans really "Believed", but the team didn't have the talent yet to win those tough games in the MAC.

That would be a good argument for 2005, though I"m not sure talent was the difference between 2005 and 2006. 2005 actually was going pretty well until 3 starting linemen were lost for the year in one 5 minute period against BG, and there was little to no depth behind them. By contrast 2006 had few injuries until Everson sprained his ankle against Akron, and most of the players from 2005 returned. The only 2005 starters lost were Cole Wesley (RT), Brad Young(FB), Dave Cody (TE) Dion Byrum (CB), Seth Ream (DE), Matthew Miller (P).

The 2009 squad led by T3 gets my vote. Not one game was a blowout and they really only played one bad game (loss to Kent State at home). Can't get much tougher than taking UConn and Tennessee to the brim, beating North Texas in 2OT on a gutsy call by Frank, winning at BG after the tough loss to Tennessee, beating NIU and kicking the crap out of Temple for the East Division title when a lot of people picked the Owls.

T3's performance against Temple on national TV is still a favorite of mine.

Also a good choice. As you said, that was a team that won a lot of close ones, and those victories over Temple were especially enjoyable.

Yeah, 2009. If 2010 doesn't crap the bed vs. Kent, I think that's the winner.  But they did, and DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO THINK ABOUT THAT GAME BECAUSE DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT

I voted for 2005, mainly for the reasons you mentioned.  They were not the most talented team Solich has put on the field but they really seemed to believe in the new direction of the program and were relentless in their drive and determination.  I saw the first game at Northwestern and, even though they lost, you could tell they played their hardest on every down.  That attitude led to the Pitt victory.  Remember that Pitt scored on the opening play of the game a runback for a TD.  That would have discouraged many OHIO teams of the recent past at that point, but these guys buckled down and won the remainder of the game.  I'm getting a sense from what I'm reading about the recently concluded Spring Practice that the 2014 'Cats might be of the same mold.  Go OHIO!

2005 was an interesting year for Northwestern as well. Randy Walker had the team on the upswing that season until his untimely death in the summer of 2006. Pat Fitzgerald took over less than two weeks later and the rest is history.

The same can be said of the 2012 team. Despite overwhelming numbers of season ending injuries, they kept piling up wins, until they just ran out of gas down the stretch. Take away the stretch bg-ball state-kent and there is a strong argument for them as well.
