Interesting interview.  From a rivalry standpoint it's been nice having Fiami down for the past five or six years.  That might change soon (probably not this year).  Martin seems to have his stuff together and Fiami will probably be tough in a year or two.  Like it or not, Fiami is still a face of the MAC ("Cradle of Coaches" and whatnot) so having them be competitive again would help the MAC's image.  He also takes a little jab at his former EMU colleagues.

Thanks for posting.  I think there are some strange quotes in this interview.  One example:
"We want to be like that kid who likes to fight. He may not even be the strongest or the meanest, but if you beat him up on Monday and Tuesday, he wants to fight you again. That kid you never want to get in a fight with because you know it’s never ending."
I understand what he's trying to say, but I think that's an unusual analogy for a coach to make.  We want to be like the kid who likes to fight.  Sounds like a street brawl to me.

Also, I found this interesting:
"I left Notre Dame to come here. I took a pay cut to come here."
Miami is paying him $450,000 plus bonuses. At least Frank is making more than an ND assistant!

Good for Miami!  It's in Ohio's and the MAC's best interests that Miami elevates its football program.

That being said, Miami still sucks!!  Have a nice day everyone.

Spent more time in Oxford last weekend than I ever have before. Nice town. Pretty campus. Sneaked into an empty Millett Hall just to poke around. I was impressed with it. Never seen a game there, but the facility itself seems nice. They did a good job with the Hall of Fame in the foyer area. Walked into a back area underneath the arena, and bumped into a student equipment manager (?). Talked for a minute, and looked closely at their new helmet. I will admit, I do like the color. No fan of the "Miami" in big letters across the back.

Also spent some time kicking on their practice football fields. That whole athletics area is well done. Nice facilities, and their stadium leaves a good impression.

On Saturday afternoon, the students were exercising 'Spring Fever' and every third or fourth house was hosting a party. Miami students can't point a finger at OU as a party school. They were doing just fine on that point.

Their campus definitely impressed a group of Tennessee High School girls I was with, which were in town because of a soccer tournament hosted by Oxford. I hope Athens takes advantage of similar opportunities.

That is one reason why I absolutely loathe the new semester system.  Ohio's done in two weeks.  There's nothing prettier than Athens in mid to late May.  Now w/ school out at that time, the campus will seem less alive at the height of Springtime when high schoolers are touring Ohio.

I didn't know they now ended that early. Agree that sucks. May is a great time of year to be on campus.

Oxford is the Epcot version of Athens.

Maybe that's why applications are up.  An extra month of summer.

Yeah, May is really special in Athens.  But back in the day spring quarter didn't end til the second week of June.  That really sucked.

Martin's analogy with the fighter is no surprise.  Miami will have some gritty kids playing for them in Martin's tenure.  He is a scrappy, tough minded personality.  I qagree it will be good for the MAC to have them back.  Just not all the way back.

This changes the whole OU experience in my mind.  May in Athens was awesome back in the day.

Hopefully Miami can get some fan back for football and hoops.

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

yeah, but you get extra August and early september. not to mention you don't have to deal with the three-four weeks at the end of the summer when all your friends have gone to college and you're still home.

NOPE! Give me Ohio's quarters 7 days a week (and twice on Sundays).
