As part of a bigger committment, I get.  But, certainly neither the entire $1.4 mil nor even perhaps any part of it didn't go to help fund the IPF did it?

Just guessing, but I have to believe there was some monetary reason the logos were included on the IPF field. Maybe the $1.4 million was an increase of $200k or some smaller amount, with the added requirement that Pepsi gets logos on the field and on the scoreboards.

Or, maybe the added amount was Pepsi stepping up and funding the scoreboards if they get some signage inside the facility, which wound up being field logos and scoreboard logos.

All this tizzy over $1.4 million, just wait until the figures come through on the naming rights for the Convo and Peden.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Wait until Ohio(the state) goes Colorado and the organic green leafy growers in Meigs County start pumping the cash into naming rights, etc.

I'm not in a tizzy!  I can believe there MAY be some big bucks in naming rights for peden or the Convo.  But, seriously, would you pay anything "extra" to have your logo on an IPF field and scoreboard?

Just curious...

Seems they might help defray the cost of the turf or scoreboard, but, I would be thinking small change involved. I am surprised the IPF is not under the umbrella of some preexisting contract.

I hope this is a joke Alan.  The sad thing is we don't do enough of this.  I know we have had the opportunity to put logos on the Convo floor and we have turned the money down....

It wasn't a joke.  With the new rules coming down the pike on advertising on scoreboards and the like in schools, if we had to put something on there you would think it would be something healthier than 22 packets of sugar.

What new rules?

Besides, what's wrong with sugar?

Just got back from Findlay, Ohio, where we went to a funeral yesterday.  It was a sad situation involving the death of 42-year-old woman from metastatic breast cancer.

On the way back, right outside Findlay, we saw a huge white silo with the name of local sugar company that proudly proclaimed: "Sugar: Locally Growning, Locally Owned."  I guess what we need here in SEO is to start growing sugar beets and then we could proclaim the "30 Mile Sugar Fix"!

A few points here:

-  The whole soft drinks can't advertise thing is targeted at youths.  I have no problem limiting that, but it does seem excessive with some of the regulations.  I for one think it is absurd the cigarette companies can't advertise, yet we allow beer companies to?  Let the people make the choice for themselves.  In reality, where would you draw the line?  Should Taco Bell be allowed to advertise?  Cars kill people all the time, should Ford Advertise?

-  The 1.4 million is likely more of a signing bonus for the university to stay on board with pepsi.  This is pretty typical at most schools.  Similar stuff happens when schools re-sign with IMG. EX: Scoreboard at Marshall.

-   Logos on practice fields and practice scoreboards still would have earned a pretty penny even it wasn't part of the pepsi deal.  Certainly not 1.4 million, but I'm sure Ohio Health would've liked to have their logo and name tied to "training" facilities.

I wouldn't be surprised if Akron built its facility with soccer in mind, since they are a perennial top 10 team and won the national championship in 2010.

I've played soccer there a number of times. I would argue that non school programs use it more than the school does. I practiced there 2/3 times a week and I know we were not the only ones

What would you estimate the value of Bobcat Club $'s is already from that?

It's a shot taken with a real camera, using a fish-eye lens. You don't see them used much anymore, but the effect is still pretty cool. That looks like about a 4.5 to 6mm lens, with  a 180 degree picture.

With those garage doors you're going to be able to get practice sleds in from the outside easily. Its a great football training setup down by Peden Stadium.

I wonder if they're planning to add goal posts, at both or either ends. I hope so. Would be a huge help for off season kick training.

Is the ceiling high enough for punts and kicks?

I would say no for punts and kickoffs. It looks high enough for field goals but I am just guessing.

The longer out the kick the more of a line drive the kick is, usually.

I don't know. It appears to be high enough for most field goal kicks. A true "sky kick" would not likely be possible, but I would say most kickers work on their field goal accuracy more than anything else, especially in the off season.

For our punts, yes. Though the building might not be wide enough.

I took some video of the outside of the building two weeks ago but did not go inside. I would say punts are probably out.  Field goals and kickoffs that are between the hash marks are probably fine.
