I guess some of the fans on here would rather have a 20 year old facility attached to the Ping Center that BGSU has in Perry Field House over what we just built. Walter Fieldhouse doesn't have a full size track in it but what Ohio has put up is a very solidly built facility. With 3 1/2 practice fields right at the stadium, 10,000 sqft. weight room, team & position meeting space, hydrotherapy pools ect. Ohio now has the best football training complex in the MAC. The football stands of course are another story but from a training perspective its the best in the conference. NIU is a close #2 with a slightly bigger weight room but doesn't have the practice field set up. At other MAC schools its older IPFs and smaller weight rooms mostly located away from the stadium. The construction quality of Walter Fieldhouse is only rivaled by Akron and NIU.

Thanks for the pictures of the new facility. It actually looks better than I had expected. Looks like football will get the most use out of it (which is fine by me), but we'll see as time goes on I guess.

Can someone please post an outside picture of the Walter Fieldhouse from maybe a couple hundred feet away? I still have never seen a long range photo of the building and I'm very interested in how it fits into the campus and in relation to Peden.

And Akron's situation and Ohio's are a bit different. Akron's IPF and their student rec center were built within a couple years of each other, so planning (and paying for) the two was probably much easier. The Ping Center was built in the 90's with no concurrent plans to immediately build an IPF. Let's face it; without the Walter's initial contribution in 2011, we wouldn't have an IPF being built right now.

It wasn't a joke. With the new rules coming down the pike on advertising on scoreboards and the like in schools, if we had to put something on there you would think it would be something healthier than 22 packets of sugar.

Interesting article in today Post about the new structure. Pepsi paid $1.2 million for that plus some scoreboards. Nice pictures in the article.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me that someone would come in this thread and complain about student fee's being used then go on to complain when the University gets 1.4 million dollars from Pepsi to go towards that same cost.

Seeing how these are the 1st scoreboards, they will "automatically" be new! And I'd expect that this will be scoreboards like a local high school field. The question is a facility this size will be pubicly seen by how many people????

That's not what I was complaining about. I was talking about "what" was put on the field. Pepsi has lots of other products that aren't contrary to a healthy life style. This is a sports facility isn't it. As for the $1.4 million my guess is that was the total that Pepsi gave the entire university for pouring rights in it's most recent contract not for this facility.

Let's make 'em limit their advertising to Diet Pepsi and Diet Dew . . . but I bet it would be OK by the nanny police if Jackie O's advertised their new "high test" beer, which will probably kill a few folks in its first few years with acute alcohol poisoning as they drink it down like a regular beer and have several at one sitting. But, hey it's a local product not a product by evil Big Pop!

Someone please explain to me: did Pepsi really pay $1.4 million to put logos on a practice field? As Alan Iverson would say: this is a practice (field). You gotta be kidding. Why? Nobody will see it on tv or the net. Is there something attached to the $1.4 like signage somewhere else? Or is it just part of a bigger contract that allows them to control beverages at the sports venues.

I really don't get 1.4 mil to put a couple logos on a practice field?!?

As others have mentioned, $1.4m is probably a University-wide advertising and dispensing deal, but that's not a bad thing, it's good. Just imagine, if they replaced Pepsi with an organic grower of leafy green vegetables, when you get thirsty at a football game, instead of being forced to drink a nasty, unhealthy Pepsi, you could grab a nice, cool drink of refreshing juiced spinach or kale. It would be so much better for you.
