WR - L. Smith, Reid, Sawyer, C. Brown
TE - Mangen, Morgan, Boland
LT - McQueen, Murdock
LG - Lucas, Everhart
C - Powell, Lagenkamp
RG - Wood, Gibbons, McCray
RT - Watson, Lowery

Defense
DE - Basham, Sayles
NG - Crutcher, Tautaki, Porter, Aloese
DT - McCleod, Purdum, T. Davis
DE - Laseak, K. Smith, Smart
SLB - Johnson, Moore
MLB - Russell, Schany
WLB - B. Brown, Grillot
CB - Bass, Brown, Ellis, Layton
CB - Wells, Stewart, Harris
SS - Kristoff, Macer, Alexander

Call me crazy but I really like that lineup on both sides of the ball. Our d line is an absolute strength and our receiving corps and dbs are nice. If daz and derrius can be 700 yds 5 td with 5 rec td and 2000 pass yds with 15 td and some rushing  td I think its a 9 to 10 win yeqr

I agree, our D-fence will lead this team next year. It will be very very hard up point against us. Basham and Crutcher will cause Olines nightmares

We need new safeties. Kristoff is a decent tackler, but not in the open field. And in pass coverage he's a disaster. He's got a safety's body and linebacker speed. Ingol makes plays...but again looked silly in the open field against ECU. And Carpenter is a tough kid, but doesn't have the size.

One thing I don't like about Frank is that once you're a starter you're seemingly a starter until you graduate. We've got lots of young safeties...Macer, Toran Davis, Leon Alexander. I'd love to see one of those guys get a crack at it.

It's all about the big, big improvement.

Else, that team is perfectly suited to more of what we saw this year.

If Trae Clark arrives then he should be a factor in the middle of the d-line.  Also if I'm not mistaken Kristoff is one of the fastest players on the team.  I agree, defense should be the strength of the team next year.

Yeah I figured if Grady is healthy he will prob. take that starting spot. I'm just hoping for some improvement on the OL/DL. Also kind of wondering if we will have any true freshman making an impact next year or RS FR who will get some PT. I know this is pretty much just all speculation at this point but oh well.

Here are more detailed comments:
QB - I haven't heard whether Windham will return or not. Now that his legal problems have been cleared up, I presume he would be eligible to return, if he chooses. If so, he'd be 2d or 3rd, I would think.
RB - looks good, Seeing Irons or Walker, or both burn redshirts would not surprise me. They both look very good.
WR - I would expect to see Cedric Brown somewhere, and perhaps Brendan Cope, and maybe one of the walkons, such as Jerrid Marhefka. There is lots of depth at WR, and it will be interesting to see who rises to the top.
TE - looks good, but better add in Brennen Boland, the new Juco transfer
LT - Your choice is logical, but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't end up like this. Can Haser move to the top? How about, say, Zach Murdock? This should be a competitive position in the spring. McQueen may win the job, but I don't think he has a lock on it.
LG - Looks good, but Welter might figure in the mix, too
C, RG, RT - agree

DE - agree
NG - I see Aloese in the mix, too. This is the deepest, by far, Ohio has been at this position under Solich
DT - agree
MLB - agree
WLB - agree, with Atwell in the mix. He moved to WLB for the bowl, and I think he will stay.
SLB - I see it Grady, Teipel, Wm Johnson, and possibly Quentin Poling in the mix.
CB - agreen on Bass, Wells, and Brown. Beyond those, I don't know.
S - Your choices are likely, but I suspect that Leon Alexander and Quinton Poling will try to get in the mix.
Nickle - agree

and, of course, some of the true Freshmen will surprise us, and be ready to play. Who will that be? Looking at the depth, TE or RB are places on offense where a Freshman might play. On defense, having a Freshman playing at DB would not be surprising at all.

If Clark arrives his size alone will not get him on the field. Mr. Porter and Mr. Aloese will have something to say about who is the new name on the depth chart. Clark would be nice to see, but, depending on how Porter and Aloese have done on the practice squad he might do a year there himself.

I said it earlier this year to some disagreement, but I like the way this dline is shaping up. I thought they played better than advertised this year. Crutcher is a monster and Basham looks like our best DE in years. Is there a chance Sayles starts on the other end?

I think Trae Clark is capable of playing immediately. That isn't a knock on our current guys at all.

I've seen crazier things happen.

If Trae Clark can come in and contribute right away at NG (and with his size I don't see why he can't), I would like to see Crutcher moved over to DT. That should pretty much take care of any problems with getting pushed around up front.

Safety and RB are the concerns I have. Kristoff is fine in run support, but I voiced concerns at the beginning of this season about his pass coverage, and my concerns remain. And I still am not sold on Edmond as a RB. H-back/TE hybrid? Maybe. Not sure about a true RB, though.

None of this matters if our schemes don't get more creative, though.

Anyone else feel like we have a pattern of pass interference calls that we can't seem to avoid? Or are we average in this department and these things just stick out in the mind? We seemed to get burned a lot in recent games, but beyond that it seems like teams know they can chuck the ball up and get calls against us.

You seem to think Clark will arrive and be like Marcellis #62 when he walks through the door. I am not there on him. Clark had 19 ttl tkls, 5 solo and 14 assists at the juco level. This year Crutch had 50, McCloed had 38, Purdum had 30 and Tautuiaki/Davis had 27 at the D1 level. Do you really think Clark comes in and takes snaps from these men?

L.C. Thanks for the link to the stats.

Yes. A lot of it seems to be poor technique. With just a few exceptions that I can think of (T. Carrie's in the bowl being one), those PI calls could have been avoided if the defender had just turned around to look at the ball. Seems like Bass was particularly bad about it at times.

Here are Clark's JUCO stats. While we're at it, here's a picture of him. It's hard to know where he'll fit in the mix, but it should be a deep defensive line.

Well, they changed the punter, Russell took Moore's job, Bass took Shaw's spot, McCloed took Purdum's spot, Basham became a freshman starter. Paul might be wrong about this.

Clark had me very excited when he first committed 2 years ago, because at 6'2", 320 lbs. he felt like the first true BIG MANZ-style NG we had seen in a while. We've been playing big DEs at DT and DTs at NG and trying to survive. Now Clark is up to 6'5", 365 lbs, and yeah I think he'll steal some snaps at NG because he's a mountain. Maybe he's lazy and won't work hard and will fail to impress the coaches. But he's getting playing time at JUCO, so I don't think that's the case.

I spent a few minutes tooling around the site LC linked, and one thing I couldn't find that I would be interested in seeing is his team's defensive rankings. A big NG might not have a whole lot of individual stats because he is going to be double and triple teamed pretty often. But that is going to open up his teammates to make plays, and make the defense as a whole better.

I'm not sure where Paul got that rule. I've never heard it. I'm pretty sure the starters are up to each individual coach. The one rule I have heard is that "you won't lose your starting spot due to injury", and maybe that's what Paul is thinking of. Over the years I've seen a lot of change in the starters. Another example from this year is Wood replacing Gibbons as the starter at RG, and then there were all the changes at SLB, where the starter was initially Atwell, then Grady, then Teipel, and finally Jovon Johnson for the bowl.

Did he wait a year to enroll? Or is it just taking him longer to establish eligibility?

Like most of the nonsense I spew on this site...its based on zero factual information. But it is something I noticed over the years. TT certainly benefited from some loyalty and residuals from prior glories. Kristoff seems to be a starter until he graduates, despite getting routinely shredded in pass coverage and making almost zero big plays in his full 3 years of starting.

And lets see what happens with Russell...who is the weakest starting MLB I can remember.

Well, accepting your observations on those players, for a moment, do you see anyone behind them better that should have been starting in their stead? I think that's the key to proving your premise that those players were starting due to loyalty.

Let's look at Kristoff. He "started" games in 2011 and 2012 at SS when Hughes was hurt or not available. Other than walkons, there weren't really any other players listed at SS. This year was his first year as the real "starter". Should he have started, or do you think Ingol or Toran Davis were better?

Next let's look at TT. Yes, there were times he wasn't playing that well, but, on the whole, I don't think Vick would have been better. Perhaps in time Vick will be a better QB than TT, but at this point, he just isn't there yet.

Finally, what about Russell? Should Blair Brown have been starting? When Brown was hurt, then who? Or, do you think they would have been better off moving Moore back to MLB, and starting Jovon Johnson at WLB?

All these three positions have one thing in common - they had little depth this year. Since I didn't get to see much football this year, I have no real opinion on how well or poorly these three players played, but I don't think there was a lot of alternatives to play in their stead that would have been better.
