Well, really the A&M school up North.

But geez does this erk me!  Can we please make this wrong name calling stop?  Maybe it's time for another lawsuit again for our own name... if you take what he says, he is slandering and making false allegations about Ohio University.   Sue?  NCAA enforcement? Just keep winning?

I think a strong case could be made in court that Will Muschamp is guilty of slander for this statement:

"In both situations, we were turned in by Ohio."

In fact, I think this is the perfect time for us to take a stand and crack down on this.

He goes on to say:
We didn't do anything wrong. The University of Florida didn't do anything wrong.
Guess what? Ohio didn't do anything wrong either. OHIO didn't turn anyone in. I find it ironic that Mr. Muschamp is complaining about another academic institution wrongly complaining about his program while simultaneously making FALSE complaints about a 3rd (completely separate) institution.

I agree.  If you want to protect OUr name, now is the time to act.  We can settle for no money, I don't care, but put the lawsuit out there, get on ESPN, show people that Ohio is in Athens, not Columbus.

Which will work right up until the moment he maintains, through his lawyers, that when he said "Ohio" he was clearly referring to people within the State of Ohio, not Ohio University

From a PR perspective, something could be said for making light of this in the form of a news release to national media.

This!
Mocking Muschamp is a FAR better response than running to the court house with tear's streaming down our faces!

I think we should make some kind of rogues gallery t-shirt with Brady Hoke, John Beilein,  Lou Holtz, and now Muschamp that says something like "All Flunked Geography 101" or "Here's a free lesson" etc.

It is pretty obnoxious though to hear this as often as we do.  On another note, does anyone feel like Muschamp has done more whining than winning since arriving in Gainesville?

I agree with BN..  I don't even care about the outcome of the court case, but merely filing the suit would get the name issue on ESPN.

Just calling out Muschamp... No one will pay attention. Taking it to court gets the story out.

and in the court filing refer to the defendant as the head coach of Florida's State University.

And then OHIO can pay his legal fees, FSU's legal fees, and UF's legal fees when the case is laughed out of court...

I don't mind OU when I'm talking to someone else from the state. However, the problem is that for the most part in the 49 other states, most people think University of Oklahoma when they hear OU.

I agree with the others who say now is the time to act on this. A lawsuit would be great.

Why would it be laughed out of court? We've already had a massive court case over our claim to the name. Even if he argues he was referring to the state and not the school, which I am sure he would argue even though it's clear he wasn't referring to the state, that's still just the argument he would make to clear his name. It doesn't change the fact that we have the claim to the "Ohio" name and there has been a number of people crossing the line and improperly using our name.

Right, and if they're improperly using our name on university apperal, or shot glasses, or uniforms, or other commercial materials we've got a good case. Coach A talking trash to Coach B and says Ohio in stead of OA&M...not so much imho

Can we file a lawsuit with a wink and a nod to a judge so he can dismiss it in a week or so?

So, it would look like this:

We file suit today.  We get on SportsCenter (since it is a slow news day).  Promotes that We are Ohio.  Not Columbus.

Judge dismisses lawsuit next week.  We act outraged, get on SportsCenter again.

We hit two news cycles and strengthen our position.

Is that even legal?

Muschamp was complaining about OSU engaging in what many believe are "dirty" tactics with regards to NCAA violations. Except he wasn't complaining about OSU, he was complaining about Ohio.

People will look at Muschamp's false statement and look down on Ohio because of it. That is defamatory.

I think we would have a better case in re-opening our complaint with OSU regarding continued use and/or condoning of the use of "Ohio" in regards to OSU. I have continued to see (even here in TN) baseball hats in red/gray with big red OHIO across the front. How or why is our legal department letting this go unchallenged? Muschamp's recent comments would serve to illustrate how our brand is being damaged. The complaint should be focused against OSU, not against Florida.

If a team believes that another team violated NCAA rules, they have a duty to report it.

No, it isn't legal. You would get hit with fines and probably wind up paying Florida's legal fees.

My solution?  I say we beat them next time we face them, either in football or hoops.  Hey, it worked in 2012 when both Hoke and Boenlein kept referring to OSU as Ohio.  We got our revenge pretty good in the NCAAs.  Stranger things have happened!
