Really? A freshman?

Get him to commit while you can. Dude is a high major prospect, get him familiar with Athens ASAP.

You know what Frank Solich likes most about coaching in the MAC? While he gets older, his coaching competition stays the same age, man.

The real O-H-I-O

A poster on a high school board I post on mentioned we offered another freshman yesterday.  I debated posting it here, but I couldn't find any other info on the kid so I held off.  It was mentioned Akron is about to visit the kid soon...

I like that Christian is going after freshman, this is a sign we are advancing.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Seems like a risk. Four years is a very long time.

(Insert rude political joke that gets deleted here)

I agree that recruiting freshman is risky, but that is why you recruit guys that would be considered home runs.  The majority of recruits you go after as freshman won't commit immediately, but getting in on them early and building a relationship could pay dividends down the road.

This is a nice sign Christian wants to stick around.

Just reading a bunch of Christian articles, I truly believe this is JC's last coaching stop. I think he realized at TCU the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

His strong ties to the league and the state make believe we've got him for a long time as long as he's producing.

I saw him play a few times this year against older more mature athletes. He played against other d1 talent and as a freshman let me tell you this kid is the real deal. He hung in there with the big boys and made a statement against a shaker hts team with 4 d1 players. The thing is, he is still growing. I hope he comes down to Athens but he has had coaches from big ten schools at their open gyms. The thing he is working on is his post up game because he was a wing player before this season. He's got a great outside shot too. Would love to see him in Athens.

Having a nice year. Earlier this month, I saw it mentioned he scored 36. A week later, 40. I expect offers to keep rolling in.

He had 40 against ohio state recruit and Garfield hts 6'10" senior david bell. Ohio alum Sonny Johnson coaches Garfield hts and he got interviewed after the game and said Omari is one of the best sophomores in the entire country. Heard Miami (Fla) was at his last game.

Article from Plain Dealer titled "North Royalton's Omari Spellman is the next big thing in NEO basketball" and I agree. This kid is very good.

Omari is now the 24th ranked player in his class, according to ESPN's national ranklings.  I've heard rumors that he really has no intention of playing in the midwest.  The FL offer and his high ranking indicates to me that he's now officially out of our price range...
