Boals has got to go out and ink this kid. I still don't know how we whiffed on Sin Carry who had an OUTSTANDING season for Duquesne as a freshman. Carry was sensational in the postseason his senior year but no one bit on him until Dambrot got into the Dukes.

98, please face reality. Players who get high major offers almost never sign with a mid major. It certainly would be worth a contact, but to say that Coach Boals "must" get Roderick isnt realistic.

Yet he is the kind of kid that the current Akron coach will develop a relationship with as early as possible.

For what it's worth, I was at Thursday's regional semifinal (very impressive performance by him) and a Stony Brook assistant was there watching courtside. So I'm sure Boals knew something and wanted to make sure he kept the recruiting going before he took the OU job. Keep in mind too, his parents were both Bobcats.

He just won Gatorade Player of the Year too. I think Ohio's chances are pretty good here. I don't anticipate an OSU offer.

Maybe Roderick and McDay can have a little conversation after Friday's state semifinal matchup. Something about playing the next 4 years together.

This will be interesting to follow. There are lots of reasons to think he'd commit to Ohio, including the fact that Boals & staff have been on him awhile as well, but I'm with Jeff - if OSU or X offer, he's likely going there. Maybe it will be similar to what happened with Bane, and Haliburton a couple years ago - a late P6 offer grabs a player Ohio hoped to get.

That said, (despite being unlikely) how great would it be if he chose Ohio over one of those two schools?

Just saw a tweet from Arkley that Boals offered Roderick yesterday.

Wasn't he already officially offered by Ohio?

Yep, in '17. Pretty sure it's customary for new coach to confirm offer if he wants the kid.

But it does bring up an interesting point. What about the other kids Saul has offered for '20 and '21? Are those offers still valid today?

No offer is valid until a NLI is sent, signed and returned.

Recent post on Jason Arkley's twitter says that Boals extended an offer almost immediately to Ben. https://twitter.com/JasonAmessenger/status/11077023532963...

Sorry I wasn't clear. Let's say Saul offered Joe Blow from Kokomo, but the kid never committed. Now we have a new coach, and the new coach does not confirm the offer. For whatever reason, however, Joe decides today he wants to commit. Is he committing to a valid offer? Or since the coach has changed, could the new coach tell the kid, sorry, but I didn't offer you a scholarship?

It's my understanding that even if Saul had stayed, he could withdraw the scholarship offer to Joe Blow from Kokomo at any time. Not saying it's the right thing to do, but I think that it's within NCAA norms. As, BTC said, it only become binding once the NLI is signed. Personally, I'd not sure I like this concept of revocable commitments, but I think that's what we have at this point.

OSU may end up landing a 6’11” center originally from Senegal. I think that would be their last scholarship.

If coach B. can get a John Hancock from Ben Roderick, that would be a statement towards the future. I read the Dispatch this morning, maybe I misread
but I didn't Ben Wight on any all-Metro teams. I didn't go through the honorable mention. I am not judging too much because I haven't seen the guy play. he may be a good project in the making. The stats I have been entertaining aren't flattering. I would give leeway if TW was in the state title game. we will see I guess

BobcatNick’s post is very relevant to this thread. If Ohio State gets Diallo (the aforementioned center) then it comes down to Xavier and OU.

He should come to Ohio where he will be featured and can play right away.

well the offer to Ben started at SB. with coach Jeff. His first day on, Coach thought of him immediately. having read that he has had over a dozen family members attend Ohio University. This should be a gimmie. time will tell, hopefully sooner than later. does anyone know about the kid at SB that has good numbers? I am not a fact checker. he would be a nice transfer.

Getting a little interesting now with Carter to Xavier. Add Indiana to the mix.

With Xavier getting Carter you would think their roster would be getting full.

If it was or is down between us and XU you would think this would improve OUr chances.

Would love to get this guy and we could guarantee instant pt.

Duquesne has a lot of wing players. I think Ohio is a better fit. Roderick will be close to home and he can establish his self. If he is open to coaching, he can be a great one. In the word of JA Morant’s dad, go where they want you.
