Coming in as a grad transfer according to this story. Served as a defensive presence for the Eagles off the bench:

Experienced big and it leaves open one of the scholarships for a 2018 recruit. It also evens out the classes.

Bounced around a lot. Started at Central Connecticut State, then went to Broward College for JUCO before ending up at FGCU and now Ohio. He's an athletic big who can play defense, which is kind of what we need. I guess he fits the bill?

The numbers aren't impressive, but Mickle's coach did call him a "rising redshirt senior," which indicates Kevin's best college playing days are in front of him. How that translates, how high that ceiling is, is a great unknown we'll watch next fall.

Knowing what we need, and with a bevy of players out there to possibly choose from, our coaching staff must feel Mickle can fill a significant role. This also may signal that Jason Carter starts in the hole next season. Could Mickle end up being our starting big forward and reserve center behind Carter and Doug Taylor? Time will tell.

I will say this: When you get a player who is the product of the daily battles on the New York City playgrounds, he usually is going to be tough, physical, intense and relentless. I'm sure we're not sorry to see Brooklyn product Jimmy Hall go, right? And it certainly wasn't fun to me sitting there and watching Queens product Jordan Washington dominate our post players, Tony Campbell included, at Iona College this past season. Washington played as if his hair was on fire and Tony got burned by the flames.

Hopefully Mickle will bring some of that New York fire and desire to Athens!

He's going to be 24 years old so he's a grown man that should be able to guard the post and give us 5 fouls at worst. Haven't seen any video but some articles describe him as athletic, bouncy, and with a high motor. Not a splashy transfer but seem to be an accurate description of the player needed. Also a couple references to a good mid range jump shot out to 17 ft which doesn't hurt.

His coached freed up a scholly to get a better player. He did have 4 blocks last year. This was a heck of a find. The NYC heart is stronger than an Ohio heart. We are ready to rock. The NCAA should keep the grad transfer rule, if we can continually get this type of player via grad transfer. His former coach said he was a shining star and we got him. When we played against him last year, I saw his potential.

Allen: the raw scoring stats aren't impressive, but a few other stats indicate he must have had some value to Dooley: He played in 32 games, started five. Averaged 12 mins a game. That doesn't sound like a player a coach would be eager to get rid of.

Will be interesting to get Saul's take on Mickle before drawing too many conclusions.

He does check off the athleticism box that so many on here have been clamoring for. Maybe he can quietly block a few Beefs and Flashes shots when they dribble drive.

He played on a very good team. They were 26-8 and won the ASUN tourney, then played no. 3 seed Fla St. in the dance and lost by 6. He was a role player on a deep team.

More on his stats. His minutes were interesting. As mentioned, he averaged 12.6 but the range was extensive, from just a few minutes to mid twenties, probably due to match ups with other teams. His minutes were 9th on the team.

His biggest asset may be his rebounding and hopefully defense. He had 2.7 boards /game (7th on team) which is decent for 12 minutes. Doesn’t shoot much (27-53) about 2 pts/game.

He looks very strong and if we can get 15+ minutes a game from him, he’ll be a big addition.

Welcome aboard Kevin!

I see this as something else that is potentially worthy of consideration: Mickle signs, only after Tony's appeal is officially denied. It's possible, right?

He averaged a double double at a good JUCO, Broward. If we signed a kid straight out of JUCO with those numbers, we'd like that.

Consensus of articles is that he is an athletic, physically tough, blue collar defensive player and Rebounder who is less skilled offensively.

Another take on this is that FGCU had so many skilled offensive players that Mickle didn't need to take shots.

Copied this from an article when he arrived at FGCU. Seems like a glue guy too.

"There's a lot to like about Mickle. Aside from what he brings to the court and on the bench in terms of play and energy, he carries himself with a humble attitude and a quiet confidence that stems from his upbringing. As someone with high character, he will certainly serve as an example to the younger players on how to carry themselves off the court.

The more I think about the two new additions the more I think we will have exceptional depth next year.

First, if we do return who we should return the core of Jaaron, Jordy, Block, Carter, Taylor and Laster is the an interchangeable top 6 that rivals any top 6 in our conference.

Second, with four freshmen, you have to like the odds of at least 2 working out and I don't care which 2. If I had to guess, I would think Gareri would be the project and Kirk and Butler would share minutes.

And getting to Mickle. He gets a spot from Wad or Khari that was just an empty spot last year in terms of minutes. He is 6-foot-7, 220 pounds and looks athletic and strong from what little film there is on him. At the VERY LEAST he is Doug Taylor Lite. Some on here are looking at his scoring average of 2 ppg and 2 rpg and 4 total blocks in 12 minutes. Doug averaged 3.7 ppg, 4.5 rpg and had 24 blocks. If Mickle even plays six minutes per game and gets us an extra 2 points and 2 rebounds per game it would be more than we were getting from Wad or Khari. And if Gareri or Vander Plas are ready to play, he gives us more depth.

This says it all for me, "He should challenge Dozier for PT." If that's the case, we should've left it open. I gather we had nobody else up our sleeves? A bit surprised we weren't better prepared for Wadley, Culver and/or Khari leaving and left scrambling for what appears at best, a reach. George Reid?

Reminds me of Chandler Thomas signing, which didnt make any sense either, and that was proven on the floor (or not, since he couldnt get on the floor).

Chandler Thomas came from Grambling where he averaged 3 ppg and had 2 rpg in a lower conference. And to say this is an Ellis Dozier clone is rediculous. Mickle averaged a double double in JUCO and started 5 games and averaged 12 mins a game for an NCAA team that won 26 games.

If you think we are getting Power 5 grad transfers you are nuts. We may get Power 5 undergrad but grad guys from Michigan are not coming here. And grad transfers who leave mid majors like the Howard guard or Alstork are moving up to Power 5.

Sometimes it's less about what they do in gameday and more about all the other days of the week. We have 2 incoming freshman forwards and a sophomore forward with very limited game time experience. That leaves 2 forwards with experience going into the season. We needed a veteran, if for nothing else, someone to help coach up the younger guys in practise.

Toledo is getting power 5 tranfers. Btw, Ellis Dozier was a three star recruit that averaged a double, double at Sheridan and 11 and 7 at his prep school . https://future150.com/hs/basketball-profiles/ellis-dozier...
