Interesting that 9 of the 10 first-teamers are guards and the 10th is a W/G.

Now holds offer. Not positive, but believe offer was made during campus visit this week. Taevion posted it June 20 on his twitter feed.

A lot of them probably are more like guard/forwards. They might be listed as guards because of their shooting/ball handling skills (and that's what they'll play at the next level). It's not uncommon for Division II and smaller schools to have forwards that are 6-2 (or smaller). Most of the best players are guys of that size that can defend players several inches taller if needed because they have superior athletic skills.

I do like this kid but we are losing Laster (SG, 3 man), Mickle (big) and Tone's scholly or vacant scholly if he doesn't come back. We are good at point guard. We need an athletic wing who is 6-7 with length and shooting ability. We need a big man who is 6-9 or bigger like Big Dog (but a little more athletic).

I could see a starting lineup in a year of Kirk (PG), Dartis (SG), DT (post), Block (SF) and Carter (PF) and a solid bench of Butler, Vander Plas, Gareri and Gollon but we do need some athletes. I don't see Dozier panning out and Gollon may never earn big minutes either. I guess Kinsey would be a solid wing and 2-guard to spell Darty.

Why does the needed "athletic wing" have to be "6-7 with length", or the big "6-9 or bigger like Big Dog"? Just seems excessively specific to me. For example, like Kinsey we've talked a lot in the thread about Haliburton, and he's only 6'5" according to reports. He looks good - but isn't 6'7". What are your thoughts on him?

I guess my point is, if a wing can play, I don't care if he's 6'3", 6'5", or 6'7". Length is nice - if the freaky athlete can also shoot.

I like a team that looks good walking off the bus too... when I first glance at the roster, but the best team we have ever fielded had a 6'3'' small forward and a 6'7'' 190 lb. center, and they took a #1 seed full of All-Americans to OT. Hell, LaSalle High School won the state championship a few years ago BY 19 POINTS without a single post player over a team with two D1 6'9'' players and an NBA point guard.

If you play a style and pace that avoids your weaknesses and accentuates your strengths, you don't need size.

Kid has some hops and I like his shooting stroke, but I need to see more. He's rail thin, as I think Borna mentioned.

Yes, but that seems the case for a lot of high schoolers. Thinking Caris Levert off the top of my head.

Taevion is no longer considering Ohio. His final three are UT-Martin, James Madison and Marshall.

For a kid from Ohio, I find this fascinating, although I can see the depth chart and see potentially why.

Marshall is getting the athletes out of high schools in Ohio University's backyard, so to speak. First Harris out of Zanesville and now Kinney out of Columbus.

I had a nice talk with Harris' dad about his son's recruitment about a week ago. He mentioned that his son played some summer pickup games in the Convo two summers ago and held his own against Jason Carter and yet received no offer from Saul. I realized that this was a proud dad talking, but it made me wonder why we aren't offering players from nearby Zanesville when D'Antoni is down in Huntington.

One week into the spring signing period with no news also has me wondering about the ability of this staff to get the players needed to turn things around.

That's 2 of the top 5 central Ohio kids D'Antoni has picked up and according to OHHoops.com 2 of the top 20 in the state of Ohio. Cam Brooks Harris at 13 and Taevion Kinsey at 20.

http://ohhoops.org/player-rankings/2018-player-rank /

Make no mistake D'Antoni is the machine behind getting both Brooks Harris and Kinsey but his staff of assts. Mark Cline, Scott Rigot and Cornelius Jackson are doing a great job in making sure everything stays on the right tracks.

And truthfully who wouldn't want to come play in the D'Antoni system, if you fit it. It's a no mistake, green light system where if you miss no big deal just go on to the next possession, and well during a game with the Marshall tempo there are usually about 85 possessions to be had.

Except Ohio did offer him. Both Zach Fleer and Verbal Commits reported it. And Ohio wasn't among his final three of James Madison, UT-Martin and Marshall. Doesn't sound like Ohio didn't want him, he chose not to come.

I will say, I am impressed with Marshall's basketball recruiting. He doesn't need to fly all over for AAU games when the kids are just as talented in his backyard. I find it utterly annoying when programs recruit based on their vacation destinations and have no idea what's sitting underneath their nose. That and their style is actually fun as heck to watch. Other than the fact they wear the wrong uniforms, I hope they continue to recruit local kids and show that kids in the area can ball at the D-1 level.

I agree completely. I remember a few years ago when FGCU made it's sweet 16 run that one of its top players was a 6-10 kid from Parkersburg. I'm not sure we even tried to recruit him. Then going back to to a bygone era, but one that I still believe is instructive, the starting five on the OHIO Elite 8 team were all from Southern Ohio, two from Southeastern Ohio, one from South-Central Ohio, and two from Southwestern Ohio.

That 6'10" kid was actually an Athens County kid, with a late HS transfer to Parkersburg

When D'Antoni took over in 2014 he said that he was going to win with WV and surrounding area kids. By surrounding area he meant neighboring state kids. And he has done just that. Here are his recruits that he has gotten from the state of WV and the surrounding area. Some never came and a few have transferred out.

2014
Shane Hall - Paintsville KY
Stevie Browning - Logan WV - Fairmont State transfer

2015
Jon Elmore - Charleston WV - VMI transfer (released from scholarship, never played at VMI)
Christian Thieneman - Louisville KY

2016
Rondale Watson - Lewisburg WV (Wake Forest transfer)
Ot Elmore - Charleston WV (UTRGV by way of VMI)
Phil Bledsoe - Wheeling WV
Ky're Allison - Portsmouth OH

2017
Jarrod West - Claksburg WV
Darius George - Staunton VA
Tanner Robinette - Honaker VA

2018
Jeremy Dillon - Williamson WV
Camron Brooks Harris - Zanesville OH
Taevion Kinsey - Columbus OH

Then there have been a lot of WV kids walk on under D'Antoni. The state of WV and neighboring states have plenty of DI kids to win with. There are plenty of PG, SG, S/PF what there isn't a lot of and that's big men. That's where you usually have to look further away.

Jannson Williams 6'9 220 pounds Newnan GA
Iran Bennett 6'10 315 pounds Durham NC (Hargrave Military - Chatham VA)
