Ted, does Ohio have an open scholarship for next year? I was thinking that I'd hate to go into next year with Carter having to play center, as he did as a frosh when TC went down, w/o a big man ready to replace DT. Carter is at his best, as we've seen this year, playing the 4 with DT at center. I'm afraid we're going to miss DT more than we know next year. He was a big factor v. Radford even though he was scoreless until late in the game.

They are at 12 right now for next year, so they have 1 left. However, if Dartis redshirts AND comes back to Ohio they would be at 13. That also assumes no attrition.

If Dartis doesn't come back this year I think he would probably just fold up his hoops career. In terms of attrition, I have a weird feeling already about some of these guys not playing like I did with the guys who've transferred the last few years. I could see Springs, James or McMurray leaving although McMurray seems to be someone who will step in for Doug next year. James looked smooth early in the year but is getting no play. Murrell could also leave with Wight coming in next year and looking like a BVP type guy who would ultimately keep Murrell off the floor. Do most teams have four guys sitting and possibly being redshirted in one year like we do?

You do understand that not all Freshmen or Sophomores get to play a bunch of minutes from Day 1 right? They have to earn them, unless they are ultra-talented (DJ Cooper, Gary Trent, Jeremy Fears, Leon Williams) or it fills an immediate need due to unforeseen injuries (Jason Preston is a prime example of this).

This is especially true because the 4 guys you mentioned also have DT, Carter, BVP and Block ahead of them right now. Where are the minutes for them?

Unless you have some hard data to back up those guys leaving, all of us are completely in the dark.

Now, if Saul ends up being let go, that's an entirely different scenario. But that's not what is being laid out yet.

"I have a weird feeling" definitely not hard data.

Hey, his "weird feelings" were accurate predictors in the past, so who are you to say they are not now! ;-) [Please read my sentence with your sarcasm detector in the "On" position.)

Right, which is why I'm agreeing with shab here that it's ridiculous to speculate on who might be transferring when we haven't even hit the MAC portion of the schedule.

My concern for next season has nothing to do with having no players transferring out or multiple defections. I don't see a 5 on this roster, other than DT, that will allow Carter to remain at the 4.

I don't think you need a 5 perse. We've got Carter and BVP. Both can play with their backs to the basket or facing the basket. McMurray should be able to fill the 3rd big in the rotation. It's also possible with a year of practice that Springs might be serviceable.

You are totally missing the point. It’s not the offensive end that is the issue without DT, it’s Carter having to guard the 5 by default. Those matchups have not ended well for him. Lots of fouls and bench time.

Correct, BTC.

Plus, I'm not too optimistic of the two frosh OUVan mentioned adding many quality minutes down the road.

Why is it you don't think BVP can fill that role?

BVP is not a 5. He does a lot of great things and is going to have a very successful career at Ohio. I love having him on the floor with Carter at the same time. But he's not going to be the rebounder and rim protector that DT has been the last 2 years.

You may be right, but having two 4s who can stretch the floor means the opposing team may not even use a 5.

He's not as good at either but he's not bad at either. Plus he is a much better finisher at the rim than Doug and he is definitely a better post passer than Doug. He's got really long arms so that's a help as well. I'm more worried about our shooters than I am finding a 5.

I never said I think anything. I was simply providing clarity to the confusion you had to Bobcatsquared's comment.
