Agreed. Seems like a stretch. I was expecting him to not be eligible to play until next year following the Izzo letter. I have no clue how likely it is... Then again, you never really do with the NCAA.
I do know that he would be a perfect fit to help with our frontcourt depth this year.

I've seen crazier things happen.

I'm thinking it's a "why not, worth a shot" thing. I'd be very surprised if there are rock solid grounds.

This is definitely worth the risk. He's a 6'8 athletic 49% 3-pt shooter. This is an absolute steal for us.

I don't think it's that much of a long shot. If they can prove it was anything short of a slam dunk of a decision to dismiss him from the team, they can make a case for the dismissal putting him in an unreasonable situation. Not saying it is likely but it would not shock me.

I agree any request for immediate eligibility for a transfer is a long-shot. But there are a couple extenuating circumstances here that might make it more plausible. First, he was (apparently) involuntarily dismissed from his former program. Second, he's already missed one season due to injury. So if a waiver isn't granted, he'll effectively lose a season of eligibility through no fault of his own (setting aside whatever it was that he did to lead to his dismissal in East Lansing).

Even if this waiver is denied, I think there would be a chance he could seek a 6th year of eligibility down the road.

I don't know if I'd call Kaminski "athletic." He's not "unathletic" but it's not a strong suit. He's not very quick or intuitive as a defender, and his hops and nose for rebounds will not jump out at you. The size and shooting is accurate though. He's really a specialist right now, though granted he's a redshirt sophomore.

But let's put him in terms of the MAC. I love our conference but I'm also a realist. Someone like Mo would excel at a big-time school but for the most part, we have MAC guys, mid-major guys. Kaminski will be a VERY GOOD mid-major player for us and if he can play this year he gets three years instead of 2. That would be HUGE to be able to pair him with Tony, Jaaron, Dartis for the next 2 years AFTER this season. Great get Saul!

You really don't but their head-scratching approvals are typically in favor of programs with a lot higher profile than Ohio.

It was recently denied and I have no doubt his run-ins with the law had something to do with it. Hopefully that is not the case with Kaminski.

Kaminski hasn't had any run-ins with the law (at least I haven't seen any) so that is a positive in his favor.

Seems like in every sport a coach/program takes a risky chance on a kid once every few years. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. Hope this one works. If not, I hope we figure that out quickly minimize any damage.

I'm scared, too. Scared that whatever problems he had at MSU he may bring with him to Athens. I hope he has learned from his mistakes.

Brad Bournival of Medina Gazette tweeted that Mike Ashcraft stated Kaminski will sit this year and have two to play.

Even if he cannot suit up this year, I think his presence on the roster helps give us a little depth in practice. I really wish he could play this year as our depth in the post is lacking a bit and he would be a wonderful compliment to NDOUR.

Sitting this year means that if he does go sideways, he won't drag the team down in mid-year (unless others follow) - but I think the team's core is solid.

KK played AAU ball with Jaaron Simmons and JS appears to have been influential in getting him here. If they both red shirt together I hope JS is able to influence KK positively both in practice and off the court.
