Per Arkley, The Bobcats, Akron and Robert Morris have "reached out" to this freshman transfer.  From Padua Franciscan (Parma, OH).  Played sparingly for Eville, averaging 1.8, including 2 pts against 'Cats in the convo last November.

I talked to his parents in the Convo when Evansville played here.

Probably because he didn't get as much playing time as he would have hoped. Either way, he was a 40% 3pt shooter this year. He could be the shooter we have been looking for.

originally committed to UNC Wilmington on 9/3/12 but backed out of LOI and signed with Evansville on 5/14/13. Decided to back out of LOI after asst coach that recruited him was fired, said it was important to him that he knew that the coaching staff wouldn't leave. After 11 months in Evansville he's leaving.

Sounds like Rio Adams with half the stars, comments on Evansville board wish him well but don't feel like they are losing much. Along with UNC Wilmington originally had offers from Bryant and Fairfield. I think we can aim higher.

TO be honest, playing behind DJ (Kokomo) and the Brown kid (Fishers.IN) is not going to leave much PT.....think ST's situation behind Coop. .....if the kid was a PG in HS and a decent shooter.

At 6'3 he is a good size SG but not as effective as 6'4ish and above unless he can deck the ball and create some space. Looking at pics and vids he is one of those kids that will benefit from sitting a year and bulking up.

I thought driving to Athens was hard at times. After talking to Browns and Ballentines Parents I think I had i easy. As a native of Indiana I have still never found the way or the time to get to UE...though DJ has often said...let me know when you are coming down. It is a hard drive.....much easier to get to Columbus, Louisville, Chicago than to head to Evansville....can not imagine trying to get there from Cleveland.

I have oft found that jumping from a lower class HS to D1 ball is hard as there is a huge difference in comp. I suspectr that may be the case here. Ballentine and Brown jumped right in as they were in the meat grinder of 4a ball here in Indiana playing against Gary Harris, Zack Irvin, Kellen Dunham, Trey Lyles, as opposed to guys like Russel Byrd at MI St or Deshawn Thomas who played 2a ball and took a year or 2 to get up to speed with the game at the next level. All those folks who thought Deshawn would be a one and done were surprised to see his contributions at the next level. Villa St Angel is a big time program but looking at their schedule. I don't see those kids like him or Carlton Bragg jumping right into D1 ball. I am not argue here with anyone about the class system of ball but Div 3 and 4 kids see a lot less D1 talent night in and night out. Look at Burke, Levert, Kellogg and Brandenberg as examples. This kid is making the jump but is clearly not the guy and has been recruited over at this point. He is a player though......

I like this kid as well as any I have seen on the transfer list to come to OHIO. It has to be a lot easier for mom and dad to get to games from Cleve to Athens...He would get some much needed and desired PT and fill a role. I am not sure of his PG skills but I know he can get shots and drain them. Reading between the lines on the ACES board I see a kid that guys who know hoops are backing. Granted there are fans there who are saying stupid stuff and evaluating talent that probably are wasting keystrokes with their opines but I see a kid that is a knock down shooter with some ball handling abilites that needs a year of bulk and instruction. He got recruited over by a Coach who has a warm seat. It happens.  Pack Line suits a kid like that. Can;t fix his height but we can coach him up on the D side and make him quicker....sound like he has hustle and desire.

I hope we get him.

Don't think, after reading the comments, anyone said anything derogatory about Tyler. Casual fans made their assessment concerning Tyler contribution this year and his value, in the coming three seasons remaining on his scholarship.
Coach Simmons recruited another Guard.
A shooting Guard.
One with two years of proven experience shooting three pointers.
Where in the "picking order" did that leave Tyler.
I enjoyed Tyler's hustle on the court, when he played. The shooting display, he put on against daBIRDS was fan-effing-tastic!
That being said.
There were sometimes, when on the floor, he looked out matched and to be honest somewhat lost out there looking for, or to be shown a place to go to on the floor.
Seems to me Tyler, could have quite possibly, spent the next three years on the end of the bench, playing the other team's shooter in practice. Seeing the floor very seldom and most likely not logging more than a few minutes each season.
I don't think he wanted that.
He wants to play....somewhere.
I hope he signs DI and sits a year. Bulks up a bit, works on his D and comes back to drop 20 plus against theACES (in a loss of course)

never argue with idiots, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

My guess is he is actually an honest 6'1 pushing 6'2. As a college shooting guard there is a huge difference between 6'4/6'5 as a SG and 6'2.....this is the difference. Kid needs about 30 lbs from this pic to defend in D1. Not sure how much they got put on him at UE .UNCW report has him gaining 15 lbs in HS and putting up 3500 shots a day in his home gym. You think those P's don't want him a bit closer to home?   www.youtube.com/watch

We need DJ Porter.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes
