I'm not sure this belongs here but last weekend I went with my youngest son to a high school basketball tournament just outside of Washington, DC.   It was a tournament put on by Georgetown Prep, a private Jesuit school, and featured all Jesuit schools from around the country.  One of them was St. Peters' Prep from New Jersey and they just happened to be the tournament favorite.

Anyway, on the second day of the tournament I was picking up my sons from swim practice and peeked in on the basketball practice going on in the same facility.   The team was running a number of offensive sets all of which seemed like they were designed to get one player, a six-foot PG open shots on the perimeter.   At closer inspection I noticed that he was wearing and Ohio University T-shirt.   After getting a program at their game that night against Canisius High School (Buffalo) I was able to determine that it was Austin White.  He was clearly one of the better players in the tournament.   After some research I saw that he signed an LOI with High Point.  I would love to know the story behind the T-Shirt though since I can't see anything indicating we had recruited him.

Also of interest, one of the players on Canisius was Tyrone Wheatley, Jr. who appears to be following his dad's footsteps into football since he's a blue chip recruit at Tight End.   He looked pretty good at hoops though. That was until he hit his head on the wall behind the basket (no padding) and had to leave the game.

Division 1

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

Hello, although this may not be checked, I am Austin White. I was looking myself up on Google and happened to come across this haha. I created an account and I just wanted to let you know that the Ohio shirt I was wearing wasn't for Ohio University, it was simply a shirt saying Ohio. My friend got it for me because she has family up there and got it for me. I am committed to High Point and can't wait to get down there. But I just wanted to clear any misunderstanding about that, and good luck to Ohio University basketball

Good to hear from you, Austin!  I hope you like High Point.  Greensboro-High Point is a great place to live.  I lived in Raleigh-Durham for about five years, just down the road from where you're going to be.

ha

I love this .

Can't tell you how many times I stop people on the street and ask them about their OHIO gear. They seem to be everywhere from a rest stop on I 75 in Georgia to downtown Chicago.

Add this to the lore. I am more curious as to how he found us.......BobcatAttack must be getting some run for it to show up in his Google search. Nice habit for the young man to practice. Good to know what is out there

never argue with idiots, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Another reason why I always preferred Ohio U and OU...if we were known like the block  MICHIGAN the OHIO thing might make sense.  Unfortunately, we are not so I am sure many just think of the state..

Most of the Ohio Turnpike rest stops have little gift shops promoting the State of Ohio.  They sell shirts/sweatshirts with the word "OHIO" emblazoned on them.  One time I remarked to my wife (a fellow Ohio grad) that The State of Ohio stole that word from Ohio University and wondered if they got Ohio U's permission to use it.  She was not amused.....
