And our great handwringing is over.

Sweet! Next year with Ndour and then Wadley after that, we will have a nice tandem on the defensive side of the ball....
I have to think that with the way the game is now being called, having some mistake erasers down low is going to be of the utmost importance... Who says Christian isn't able to adjust to the times? ;)

Offers from Georgetown, Miami (FL), and VCU - have we had a recent recruit that selected Ohio over such competition?

N'dour had offers from schools like St. Johns and Cincinnati. That's two high-major big men in two years. Looks like JC and staff know how to recruit after all.

He signed a LOI so it is a done deal.

I think the fact that Georgetown came in late and we STILL signed him is a good sign for the future of this program. The fact that a program of that caliber came in and we were still able to secure a commitment from this young man reflects well on Christian and his staff's ability to compete with the big boys.

Like it or not, the fact is programs at the major level continue to recruit kids after the kid gives a verbal. If we want to play at this level, our staff needs to be ready for that. It appears they are.

While I am not going to argue we have a hoops program on the level of VCU or Temple or Miami (FL) or Georgetown I do think we are to the point we can compete with them in recruiting.

Ohio University: Good school, amazing campus, committed leadership, strong tradition, good arena, good atmosphere... The only real weakness is that we are in the MAC.. But hey, we have been able to win tourney games from here so who cares? Christian has what he needs to be successful here.

I believe Butler went to two straight championship games from the Horizon.  The WCC was nothing before Gonzaga started their run.  If we start going on a run like the Zags I believe the level of competition in the MAC will improve.  I think we might be starting a new up swing in the MAC.  The only thing that is holding Ohio back is Ohio.  We win and win with authority, conference affiliation doesn't matter.

Idk is it too early to start looking forward to his junior/senior years when he'll supposedly be even better?

I'm looking forward to our game tomorrow against Valpo. I think what we are seeing is our commitment to upgrading our basketball program starting to bear fruit.

This hoops program is headed in the right direction, fast.

That is the realistic view, not the optimistic one.

Heck, that may be the pessimistic view........

Ohio isn't holding Ohio back anymore in men's hoops. That is an exciting reality to ponder.

I think we can be completely successful in the MAC. I also think there are better options out there that are entirely realistic.

It is unfortunate leadership in the MAC isn't committed to improving the conference. I see some real potential in the MAC.

Tariq will be a game changer, especially as he gets older and puts on some muscle. I think a major reason why we are getting the players like Ndour and Tariq is because they want to play immediately. Yes they may have offers from Georgetown and VCU among other schools, but they want to play as soon as possible. I remember seeing an article about Ndour with him saying that was a reason why he chose Ohio over schools like St. Johns and Cincinnati.

TAAG has not updated since early December.  Appears to do the hard, dirty work - rebound, block shots, etc.  6th in scoring (9+ per game), but leading in blocks, 2nd in rebounds.

All these kids are playing on winning teams.  Bring in guys that know how to win.

Looking at twitter, per Arkley in a response to the question:  "headed back home because of personal issues. Still on track for Athens..."

So I guess we can assume he's still coming?

Could his departure from TAAG create problems academically/qualifying?

Every article I read on Tariq last year listed him as a Junior in 12/13. Every article I read on him attending TAAG said he was doing it as a "post-graduate" student, not a high school Senior.

"Post-grad" is just like it sounds... Traditionally a year of play after high school that doesn't cost you a year of eligibility in college. Some guys take this specifically for academic reasons to shore up their school so they can become eligible, but those guys are usually doing it in their 5th year... Other guys take a postgrad year to up their level of competition since prep schools play against Junior College teams instead of high school teams.

Pure speculation: since Tariq skipped his Senior year of high school play to go play at a postgrad school, I would imagine his academics were in good standing and his decision to go to TAAG was a basketball move. With that being the case, I can't imagine leaving hurting his academic standing.

It's not totally unheard of for a Junior to graduate high school early, but I think your assumption is probably the most true.
