I hope Tariq soon contributes to the Vols' success. I hope Tariq's release from Ohio was truly something he wanted. It will be a shame if he transfers or rides the bench.

I'm not too mad at this because I really like Donnie Tyndall. Oh well - rear window.

He won't play for a while. He will need to gain weight and get an offensive game. He will need to stay the course and listen. He will want to transfer after riding the pine, he will need to work through it.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

I wish him the best, I really do.  I hope he has a solid career.  I do, however, agree with what you said.  He is also going into a situation with a lot of competition for minutes and I am guessing he won't get many early on.  I can't see him playing over McKnight and they have brought in some other highly touted recruits this year, as well.  If he doesn't see much floor early on, I won't be shocked if he bolts.

I expect that this will happen based on the current track record, but I like the Vols a bit, so hopefully we can look at him, like we look at Levert at Michigan.

HAHAHa

Oddly enough, in our conversations, Grunk never brings that up. He is doing well at BSU and despite having a couple of pretty goood job offers....has chosen to stay LOYAL to Coach Whit.

Especially since I saw somewhere that he was being incorrectly listed at 6'9'' and is actually 6'10 1/2'' now. Of course the report I saw cited his dad and AAU coach with correcting the information.

along with correcting his height they were also saying he put on weight and was 210lbs. this article says that once he got to Knoxville last week he admitted that he was only 175lbs. Doesn't sound like Coach was too happy about it. Looks like a red shirt is in this freshman's future.

No news to me - I posted this after seeing him at a game in the Convo last year:

He was there. My first "live" impression - SKINNY! As in REAL THIN! Maybe he ends up like a Jon Smith with 3 more inches - Super Sized Pogo Stick?

One minute, zero points in his college debut. Tennessee loses to VCU by 16.

Wiggington didn't do much in Buffalo's debut but Morillo had 13 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in South Florida's first win. I always thought that he would be the biggest impact of the 3 (4 if you count Crute). Morillo was a 6-6 wing..he would be an amazing complement to Mo, Bean, Stevie and Tony. That's the guy we will miss.

When you look at Saul's recruiting class vs Christian's, the big thing that sticks out is 2 JUCOs vs 2 transfers.

Unless Kaminski's waiver comes through in the 11th hour, that is two roster spots filled by guys who cannot play on a team lacking depth. For this season, Morillo and Wigginton certainly could have helped our wings. That said, I am very, VERY happy with our current class. Taylor and Laster look like 4 year contributors on the wings and Simmons and Kaminski are both extremely talented.

My bets were on Wigginton making the most impact for us. I still think he will be very key for Buffalo this year. Between Wigginton and Beardon (freshman starting point) I think Hurley brought in a very good class for them.

I've seen crazier things happen.

I see it different, here's how I see the comparison between the two classes-

2 JUCOs vs 2 Freshmen- I don't view the JUCOs as a loss of depth because I think they compare better to the freshmen than the transfers because of their roles on the team. So with that in mind I'm already fine with Laster/RTaylor instead of Morillo/Wigginton and I'm guessing by the end of the season we'll see this as an upgrade.

Owens v Kaminski- Owens doesn't look ready to contribute this year so bringing in KK instead doesn't seem like a big loss in depth. Looking long term I'm fine with KK's next 2 years vs Owen's next 3.

Krute v Simmons- Huge upgrade. Krute was a time bomb that would have exploded on JC's watch the same way so having Simmons sit out this year is no different, but running the scout team this year and starting PG for the next 3 is a big, big upgrade.

And speaking of JC's use of JUCOs, here's the distribution of scholarships he's stuck with this year at BC-

8- Seniors
1- Junior
2- Soph
2- Fresh

that will be fun to try to even out.

Tariq looked good against Kansas today. Going to be interesting to watch his development over next 4 years.

0 points, 1 rebound, and two fouls in 9 minutes "looks good"? He looked liked he got thrown around a lot as he weighs only 175 pounds...

It's looking more and more like Morillo would have been a big help this year and next. He's a do-everything kind of player. I haven't been as impressed with Wigginton. He is a scorer but from what I've seen he doesn't even look to pass and is an unpolished defender. He reminds me of a poor-man's Sonny Johnson. And I'm not sure Owens gets any more playing time for us this year than he is with the Vols. And my guess is that Kendall Crute was gone no matter who we had at coach.

I haven't seen either Simmons or Kaminski but I like Mike Laster and I think we hit the jackpot with Ryan Taylor. I think we did fine.

Long term, I agree with OUVan. The four guys Saul got to come in this year will be better over the long haul than the four that were coming in for JC. Short term, this season, obviously that isn't the case. But the trio of Simmons, Kaminsky, and Taylor will be three starters next year. And Laster will be pushing to be one of those starters in his own right.
