Well, now that Ryan has exited for Marquette, who will the Bobcats select as the next head coach?

I am certain that Schaus's inbox is already flooded with applications.  Great program, great tradition, great returning group, great recruits.  I am certain Schaus knows how important it is to act as quickly as possible so we don't lose any of those recruits.  I don't know the Marquette situation, other than it's a successful program.  Hopefully none of our ladies will follow Ryan north.

That said, he certainly deserves thanks for the job he did here.  He took over a top flight operation and hardly missed a beat.  He left the program in fantastic shape for the next coaching staff.

CRAP!!!  Hate to see him go but he is a Wisconsin boy and maybe we just didn't have enough winter for him.

This is a good, lateral move for Ryan as it gets him back to Wisconsin. He'll be coming into a good situation at Marquette. I expect he'll do well in the Big East. He kept OHIO strong and moving forward. I wish for him only the best.

The OHIO position is posted and I hear the application window for the position is only a week, so  they are moving
very fast and may have someone already in mind (in place?).

I'd hardly call this a lateral move.  Bigger budget, greater name recognition and right in the back door of Chicago - the hotbed of volleyball in the midwest.   Is it a jump to the Big 10?  No but certainly a step up from the MAC.

Schaus rarely, if ever, hires from within, and with this program's reputation he'll be able to choose from a number excellent candidates.

Well we've' been down this road before.  So have the 2014 recruits officially signed yet or are they still open to leave?

Some thoughts:
It would be interesting to see the budget, post season national honors and attendance numbers for the two programs.
It seems to me that if you're not in the top two conferences( and the Big East is not one of them) that it doesn't make a whole lot of difference what conference you're in.
Marquette may be a better known name in bb, not so much vb as far as I can tell.
The great thing about volleyball (versus football for example) is that teams out of the 2 best conferences can schedule(even at home), quite a few ranked programs
We have been able to recruit good players from a large part of the country including mist if the Midwest so our location is not all that bad

All have signed their LOI's and are bound to the institution, not the coach.  Letter of the law, according to the NCAA is that they are bound by their signings to Ohio University.  They cannot be contacted by other programs or coaches.

That said, I would think that based on what Theis said happened after he came to Ohio that it's a bit more complicated than that.  He said the day after he was named, he made a home visit to a recruit who had already signed her letter to convince her not to change her mind (maybe Katie Post?...I can't remember).  I got the  feeling from his comments that if a signee made it clear she no longer wanted to come to Ohio, he probably would have released her.

Look at our womens' hoops team.  Bolden was the coach at YSU before he came here, and I am 99.9% positive Hannah Boesinger had signed a LOI to attend that school.  Somehow, after Bolden was named our coach, she ended up here.

Very successful team with almost everyone returning loses their head coach...Sounds familiar.  I wonder if Schaus will do as he did with Jim Christian and see if he can find someone that he feels more confident in not treating the job as a stepping stone.

Interesting conversation.

Geoff moved north into a meat grinder of a conference. Hard to deal with Penn State at the top then step down to Wisky, Purdue, Minny, Mich St, Mich and now Illinois....oh and did multiple national Championship appearance/winner Nebraska just join the conference? How do you compete night in and night out ?

I think the Marquette gig plays to Ryan's strengths in the Chicago area and the midwest (Indy/Delaware County) in general.....and he can do it in a conference where he can create a dynasty like the one propogated at OHIO. There is a lot to be said for dominating a conference rather than being one of many just fighting to stay legit.

I am already missing him ....he did a lot to keep the brand advancing.

Will be nice to see how the new guy or girl keeps it going. Went to Florida for the last one. I got a feeling Mr Shaus has one in mind. Asst at a high major? Proven coach? Will be interesting.

OU and OU Chilli.....both looking for Head womens coaches. Found that a little odd and funny when looking at the job postings.

While there are some BIG differences, I just had to think of the parallels between this situation and that in BB a few years ago.

At one point, I was really unsure and leaning against the idea Theis was the right man for the job and could continue the high level this program has been at. I was wrong and will miss him. I really hope we get another excellent coach coming in.
