I have not been to Athens since I left Ohio in 2004. Speaking to Dr.  Stewart's journalism class on the 10th. Anything I need to do or see on campus or uptown, I'm there from the 9th until the morning of the 11th, let me know.

Checking out the new OU student union is a must for anybody who hasn't been to the campus in 10 years. The Richland corridor had a lot of work done to it with a new bridge over the Hocking River. I don't know how far along the Kennedy Museum of Art was 10 years ago but its free and worth seeing what exhibition is staged and they've put in a little cafe. Uptown might have the most significant amount of changes for you. They've put in a few more upscale restaurants in Salaam (W. Washington St), Zoe (E. State where the Swindlefish was), Sol (Cuban in the alley by behind Pawpurrs) and Stephens (across from the Blue Gator/Greenery). The Pigskin has been expanded, the Junction has been renovated and there is huge new bar at the corner of Carpenter and Court Street called Broney's where and autobody shop was. That last block of court street from Casa Nueva to Carpenter Street has picked up with a few bars to make it more part of the uptown scene. I think most of the development on East State out to the mall is 10 years old but it may be worth a swing out there.

I would suggest starting a walk on West Green in the ARC (the new part of the Engineering building) down the main drag on West Green (recently redone) to Richland Avenue. Cross that and head over to the student union (new baker) and utilize that to get a free ride uphill via escalators... Then up Court Street with a detour on Union to Jackie O's.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Actually, most of it is has been within the last 10 years. I graduated in 2004 and when I graduated, there was hardly anything new there. We got Wal-Mart just a couple years before that but mostly everything happened in the few years after I graduated.

I used the New Baker escalators numerous times between my hikes from the OU Inn to Scripps. What a wonderful building that is. I can't imagine how many students make their decision to attend the university just based on a tour of it.

Had a wonderful time in Athens. Met with hundreds of students, drank plenty of Jackie O's, & even hit up the CI. The Athens News had a nice write up of the reason I was there.
