This mock has him going #50 to Detroit.

https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/nba-mock-draft-cade-cunnin...

Given their history together would be pretty neat.

https://www.nba.com/stats/draft/combine-anthro /

Above is the link for the measurements for all those at the NBA combine…
It lists JP at 6’3” sans footwear… One stat that stood out was it listed his wingspan as 6’8.5” which is quite good…

Edit: And in case it’s not clear, these are the physical measurements and not the performance based measurements.

Saw this on ESPN in their pre-combine article:

NBA scouts are always anxious to see how small-school stars will fare against high-major athletes in a competitive setting. That opens the door for names such as Nah'Shon Hyland, Jason Preston, Kessler Edwards and Neemias Queta. Hyland is a rangy, ultra-confident shot-maker (2.9 made 3s per game at 37%) who was robbed of the chance to prove himself against high-major competition when VCU's NCAA tournament game against Oregon was cancelled due to COVID-19. Preston has an excellent opportunity to avenge a 1-for-10 outing against Creighton in the NCAA tournament, confirming that his near triple-double in a win over Virginia was far from a fluke. With his good positional size at 6-4, soft touch and a stellar feel for the game, NBA scouts will be anxious to see what Preston looks like against NBA-caliber athletes on both ends of the floor. If Preston still gets to his spots on offense, holds his own on defense and shows some backcourt versatility, he could become a popular name among NBA teams.

Where does guaranteed money and years end in the NBA draft compensation?

I did a quick look, and came across this article. Sounds like there are more second round players getting a guarantee than I realized.

Good analysis. As noted, there are now many options for teams to give all of their draft picks a chance, including with the two-way contracts. It makes more and more sense these days to stay in the draft. If you're picked first round, you've got 100% guaranteed money for a few years. If you're picked in the top half of the second round, you're probably getting a year or two guaranteed. If you're picked in the bottom half of the second round, you might get a year guaranteed or partially guaranteed or probably worst-case scenario is a two-way contract. And if you're not picked, you can return to school.

If you don't hire an agent and stay in draft, but don't get selected, you can return to school? I thought all players had to make a decision about staying in the draft by July 7th? And if you stay and don't get picked, I thought you still lost eligibility to return to school?

Here is a breakdown of some of the performance measurements… Looks like Jason is listed as a tie for 9th in moving vertical leap at 38.5”… Also, while it only lists the top five in the lane agility rankings in this article, it does appear (Checks list again) he is listed as sixth.
Keep in mind, as many would point out, there are more than a handful of prospects foregoing the draft combine…

https://www.ncaa.org/about/flexibility-going-pro-and-gett... .

College basketball players who request an Undergraduate Advisory Committee evaluation, participate in the NBA combine and aren’t drafted can return to school as long as they notify their athletics director of their intent by 5 p.m. the Monday after the draft.

You can even have an agent during the whole process. If you're still in the draft on July 7, you are eligible to be picked. If you are, then you can't go back to school. The change went into effect a couple of years ago.

Good for JP. I think we need to think more and more that the keys are going to be handed over to Mark Sears in 2021-2022. And if JP comes back for one more year, we should all count our lucky stars.

We're going to need a couple of guards that are ready to go this year.

Yep, it isn't that we don't have a good player to replace Preston. It's that we don't really have a PG to fill the backup role. Brown can probably handle it in small stretches but he's not really a natural PG.

There's no question the kid has the skills needed for the NBA.

My question is,is he currently physically able to take the "pounding" of going up against some of the monsters in the NBA night after night.

I don't think his stock would drop if he stayed in college and put some more
"meat" on his frame.

NBA teams would rather use a 2nd rd pick and manage him putting "meat on his bones" - while he probable plays mostly in G-league making more money than any of us. Small investment to make in someone who has the natural skills he has. Starting to look like someone will likely make the pick. Congrats young man!!!

Boals retweeted the teams for today’s 5 on 5 work outs. Preston is on team 4, so he’ll be on at 5:15

First, I'm super glad to see that Jason is playing well and impressing at the Combine so far. I'm pulling for him to get a good draft position.

If he is drafted and leaves Ohio, there are still hundreds of players available in the portal. I would hope that we could sign a couple. Even now, we can look for someone to replace Jalen White.
