Behind the scenes at his draft party. I guess this is his YT channel. Really cool to see Boals there sharing laughs.

Glad Jason did so well with the contract. He'll represent us well, and I think he'll continue to help OHIO in many ways.

Jason is starting against a team that starts Emmanuel Mudiay, Michael Beasley, and Kenneth Faried.

JP playing good defense for the most part and has a couple assists. So far he's content to let others shoot.

The Clippers summer league team plays like a JUCO, it is awful basketball for a professional league. JP has the highest basketball IQ on the team, that being said, he will never make a roster being that timid. Anytime anyone gets near him, he passes. He doesn’t explode through gaps and he passes up shots and open lanes. He didn’t play much in the second half, it looked like he was about to sub in the fourth quarter, he was talking to the coach and slowly approached the scoring table and the coach pulled him back. He looks somewhat shell shocked, I hope that they coach him up and get him going.

I noticed in the first game that he was holding his leg/back.

you have no idea what the summer league is about. It has ZERO impact on his standing with the team.

Jordan Nwora putting his forearm into Jason's chest on a fast break with no foul was probably a wakeup call.

Sure it does, they have three veteran point guards on the roster with guaranteed contracts and playoff experience, they have three shooting guards with guaranteed contracts. They have 15 people under contract and Jay Scrubb a 2020 second round pick and Amir Coffee are challenging him for the last spot on the roster. I will refrain from making a statement about your knowledge of summer league basketball. JP needs to build up his confidence in the summer league and show that he can play at the NBA level, we know that he can but NBA executives need to know.

And Jay has a contract he just signed that guarantees him the first two years with a team option for the 3rd year.

Clippers Twitter and Reddit talk seems convinced a trade offloading multiple contracts is imminent.

His contract will got guarantee him a roster spot, their 33rd pick from last year’s draft did not make the roster and is fighting for a training camp invite, they can take 18 people to training camp, so JP being drafted just this year should make it to training camp. They had two second round picks last year and two this year, they like Boston so I am sure he will be in camp. If they don’t make the roster, they will go to the G League, if he is tentative in the G League he will be out of the NBA once his contract expires. If he wants to play in the NBA than he will have to assert his self. We know he can do it, the NBA executives need to know. If he plays at least 4 years in the league, he will be vested.

the 4 games in the summer league will not impact his standing. He's playing (as the organization knows) with guys that are trying to make a splash in order to get any type of contract. They have limited practices and even less game plans. His standing with the team will not be impacted.

What will impact his position will be the months leading up to training camp, camp and exhibition games. That said, his ability to make the opening game day roster will be heavily influenced by what they do with Jackson, Beverly and Rondo. FYI - he is currently 5th on the depth chart. Expect some movement there and also expect Preston to begin the season and play heavily in the G-league - as most 2nd rounders do. The Clippers have made an investment in the future. They did not draft Preston to "get them over the hump."

No, the guaranteed money does not mean he makes the opening roster. It does mean he will stay with the organization - again, in the G-League this year. And no one should see that as a failure. He will be "coached up" by the Clippers. In fact he will get better coaching and development by them then Ohio could ever provide.

I hope that he achieves what he wants to achieve. He has already defeated the odds. I am just being realistic, he cannot be that timid and make a NBA roster, I am sorry.

Agree - except you are reading waaaaay too much into the Summer League. Hell, the biggest discussion about him and the Clippers yesterday was the team gave him a cake for his 22nd birthday. He plays best under a structure and game plan - neither of which are part of the Summer League DNA. He'll do fine in camp, he'll do well in the G'League. He will play his game, and will get his chance. This is a 2-3 year journey / tryout. Vegas is simply a stepping out party.

Spoiler Alert - barring injury (when he may be called up from the G-League to temporarily fill in as a reserve), he will not be running with the 1st or 2nd team this year. Clippers are too invested in winning now for that. That said, he will hugely benefit from practicing against those guys leading up to the season (which will show the Clippers what they want him to work on in the G-League). In fact, his development will be better served playing in the G-League than getting some throw away minutes in LA.

The fact they can bring him along at a more measured pace makes LA a great landing place for him.

I wish I could make 1 million playing in the G-League. This is not a failure at all if it happens. I think the Clippers are aware when they drafted JP that he wasn't going to start his rookie year and lead them to the NBA title. This year is about developing and most importantly....gaining strength. I'm sure they have Preston on a good plan to put some weight on him moving forward.

As far as Jay not being aggressive offensively, he may have been instructed to hold back, who knows. As for Boston....he comes across as a selfish gunner. I didn't like his game at all. He scored but it took a lot of shots to do it.

Jason's had an up and down game tonight against the Lakers. Seems he's been instructed to play more aggressively and while there have been some gaffes, he has set up some guys nicely especially when you consider he's getting penetration against a zone.

Then he had an awesome play where he crossed a guy over then drew a foul while dropping in a reverse layup. Oohs and ahhs in the building. He missed the free throw.

I think all of them are available on watchespn app. Tonight's game was on NBA TV, but I think ESPN3 had it too.

His pick-6 and FT at the end was a beauty - wish he’d made the shot… Definitely more aggressive tonight.
