I think it's a fun idea. It doesn't need to completely replace the clock, but what do you think of implementing it in the NIT, CBI, etc.? Not sure what the ELAM Ending for football would be - but we'll hear options soon. Don't think it belongs in any "real" game including the lesser college tournaments. The point was to make the game more competitive and it succeeded. Real games have no need to manufacture that. I don't think you can do it at youth levels because you could have really long dry spells, especially as the opponents play very defensive to ensure they don't reach the point total. Full disclosure, I am a baseball junky that simply hates game clocks and how they change how the game is played. I loathe how the 4th quarter of a football game goes where the scoreboard leader becomes a slave to the game clock and how much it dictates pass vs throw. Still think college OT rules are the best, they just need to move the offense out of FG range to start. I loved this because it kind of took you back to the playground or pickup basketball games. There's no clock, you play to a score. To me I think the sense or urgency is higher when you know the other team is about to win with one more bucket as opposed to 30 seconds left. Get rid of the game clock and go to a possession based game. Each team gets 10 (12? not sure what the right number is) possessions per game, period. Field position still matters greatly, basically everything can stay the same except we are no longer slaves to the clock and teams can continue to play their game. Yes if a team is up 25 with just 3 possessions remaining, they can not mathematically come back, so just let them play pointless football where backups can get shots. Not much different than a 25 point lead in the 4th quarter under the clock based game. I would appreciate this in theory for a Clemson-Charleston Southern opener or Alabama-Western Carolina November tune-up.
