This is the first really poor game we've had for a long time. In fact, it may have been our weakest performance of the season. All teams are going to have a couple games like that each season. Now, we need to break this losing streak!

Not sure how anyone takes anything positive out of this game. It was a stinker. Glad they are off until the weekend. They need some time to regroup and try to scratch out a win...any win.

Why can't we just play Eastern Michigan every week?

Love the fight on this team. Love Coach Boals. But this team is....not good. It is what it is. Really had higher expectations for the freshman class. To say they've been underwhelming is an understatement.

I'm wondering. Dartis and Ogbonda are graduating. We've already signed White and Granger to take their spots. But, since Price left - doesn't that leave one spot still open? And, in the event we get a transfer, we might even have 2 schollies available still correct?

This team sure could use a huge giant influx of talent and athleticism next season.

From what I saw, we played well enough to win. We committed a few too many turnovers but not an outrageous amount. You have to shoot confidently and make the open shots. That's the bottom line. The open looks were there. Have to make them.


I can have all the confidence in the world, if I can’t shoot at a high level though, I simply can’t shoot at a high level. That is this young team. Through this sample size we are who we are.

Which is a very young team, who’s been hampered in development by injuries to the younger players. But a team that will get better.

Have to find an offensive presence in a big man. Doesn't have to be spectacular...but a 6'8 or taller center that can score with confidence and average 10 PPG. It's been painful the past three years watching Doug Taylor and Sylvester attempt to make offensive moves in the paint.

Doug Taylor was a solid big man and we could really use him this year. He was much better than anyone we have.

I believe Boals saved a scholly along with Price so we have 2 open. I do not know who would transfer. McMurray and Springs have gotten some run. The frosh all seem like they are fitting in. Boals can do a lot with 2 scholarships though! We need fast, confident, athletic, rim rockers. No more swing 4s and no more little guards. We need Jon Smith. We need TJ Hall. We need Rico. We need Nature Boy!!!

I agree that DT was more polished in the paint than Sylvester. But you never knew what you were going to get from him offensively game to game. It could be 2 points or 12 points. We just need that consistent big man that you know is going to get his 10 night in and night out

For me I did not see the same intensity that the team played with in the previous 2 games.

I think some of the guys are just tired. Preston and BVP have been warriors but it takes a toll. Look at the best teams in the MAC. I watched as German sat twice per half for what seemed like 2 mins each which adds up. He has backups. Guys like Rod and Brown or Springs and McMurray just are not ready. No fault of their own. Lets hope depth is built for the future.

I disagree.

This program is going nowhere if Springs (and McMurray) have to be getting minutes. Another thread on BA briefly discussed how impressive Kent, Akron, UB and BG looked on national TV Friday night. Ohio, obviously, is no where close to these 4 teams and will not be approaching their level without a major upgrade of the roster as it stands for next year and beyond. Preston, BVP and McDay are a good start. Hopefully, Roderick and Foster will develop into MAC starters. Players with talent similar to what was on CBSSN and ESPN2 Friday night will have to be added to Ohio's roster if the Bobcats are to join the MAC elite.

These are both true statements.

Springs is head and shoulders, statistically our best offensive weapon by TS% or eFG%. His ability to shoot the 3 (15-36 41.7%) and knock down FT's (2-2 100% - yeah talk about small sample size) boost that.

The reality is, he's too soft to play inside. He's a turnover machine, and his defense without fouling leaves a lot to be desired.

I do think, on this team, he probably deserves some more PT - if nothing more than in an offense for defense role. But yes, for the program to get where we all envision, he either needs to improve quite a bit (he's still young with little basketball experience so possible) or replaced with better talent.

I HOPE it is the "team's frame of mind". Todays game was "going through the motions" / "phoned it in".

I've seen this with teams in the past. Ours and others.

In most cases it's goes to internal issues with the team. ( we will never be told. However we will say that might of been it when several enter the portal at the end of the season. )
If so Jeff has real issues to deal with. Hope it's not the case.

Don't agree with internal issues part. But I'd be surprised if two guys in particular don't enter the portal after the season. It's the nature of college athletics these days with the portal.

+1. No slight on Sylvester's efforts, and I love his personality, but Doug would have been a nice player to have on this team right now.

There are currently two scholarships to give. Price's scholarship becoming available made that happen. And just because of how young this team is, if they're serious about being top-4 next year, they need to get transfers with both of those scholarships. Otherwise, four of the 13 on the roster are true freshman, which to me keeps them young again next year.

I was thinking the same thing Friday night. Guys like BG's Turner & Plowden, Akron's Williams & Jackson, UB's Graves, Mballa, are at another level compared to Ohio's group (maybe besides BVP, Preston, and McDay right now). Worth pointing out though that they're all Juniors and Seniors. Definitely an example of why I think the other two scholarships need to be transfers. Two transfers that are Jr/Sr that have the game to play significant minutes immediately jumps this team back into the mix of the MAC's top half quickly.

If we stay with only two remaining spots to fill, I would be okay with a freshman point guard - a true, high assist guy who can run the offense. I don't know if Miles Brown is that player, and think he may better suited to by a scoring off guard with a year of healthy development.

The last scholarship really needs to be a forward or post player who can create his own shot. I don't necessarily think it needs to be someone who can contribute those things right away... maybe someone develops into that kind of player, or maybe we take a guy who has to sit a year to pair with BVP's senior year (please don't grad transfer, Ben).

Normally, I'm OK with a guy who would "develop" into their role when the roster is mostly set, but I think this team direly needs players that are more "ready to go" in those slots given how young it is in general.

That's for sure. Grad transfer following a red shirt. Injury or not, mid majors will always pay the price if a kid is halfway decent. Gonna lose another one this year. Guaranteed

We have to get at least a couple of "ready to play" transfers to be competitive with the top of the league.
