There were dozens of plays that could have turned this from an L to a W, but that last 4.9 was truly bizarre from my point of view. That was the definition of "one that got away."

Agreed. A couple of head-shaking turnovers and missed bunnies go the other way and it's a W for the Cats. Still, the guys battled. I truly didn't think they'd keep it close. Coach Boals has shown he can get these guys up for big games though.

What a tremendous game from BVP and Preston. Exemplary midweek MAC game.

There's no glossing over it though, to pass to the wing to Brown with a few seconds left is a dud decision.

The Dartis injury looked not good. It would not surprise me if he is done for good.

Somebody explain having Preston throw the ball in there with 4 seconds left? You have to get him the ball and just let him take it to the basket and hope.

BVP was unstoppable. Why didn’t we just have Jay Preston pass it to him for the last shot?

Often, someone forgets to defend the inbounder. Rapid give-and-go.

But do you really expect a 6'10 guy to make that pass back to Preston even if it's open? We saw the panic in our big guy as soon as he touched the ball. Would have been nice for Preston to get it 20 feet away and let him make the call himself. Plenty of time to drive and score or try to create a foul.

(shrugs) You asked for an explanation.

I hate to say it, because I love Jordan Dartis, but he is hurting this team right now. I agree he may be done. The last two games have been a real struggle for him. His shooting form is nothing like a healthy JD. Tonight he wasn’t even close when he did shoot. He is having trouble moving. He has trouble getting his shots and is a liability defensively. I hope he can come back and contribute, but he has to be much better than recent performances.

I posted this elsewhere ... so I apologize for the duplicate

As much as I'd like Dartis set that 3pt mark .... I'd also like to see him become a threat other than just a catch and shoot 3-pt guy.

This offense is in dire need of a playmaker outside of Preston. BVP has been more than holding his own the last month or so ... but he can't create his own shot.

I really, really thought Miles Brown (a guy who averaged 34+ ppg in high school) or Roderick would be better at creating their shot and could help this offense. Right now it seems to be a lot of standing around and watching Preston do something and if the ball ends up in your hands (assuming you catch it) ... then just shoot.

I know they are young and this is part of that process .... the transition into the college game (bigger, faster, stronger opponents) ... but that seems to be the most lacking thing to me right now on offense.

Dartis is simply a guy who hoists 3ptrs ... and does little else (and I'm not sure if that's injury limitations or what? He certainly has show flashes where he can get to the rim ... why that isn't happening more often is bizarre to me?)

Lunden McDay has shown flashes ... but as much as I LOVE him and his hard work ... he tends to fade into the background on offense.

Unless Ohio becomes super proficient at moving the ball around the perimeter and otherwise with quick passes that results in wide open 3pt looks for just about anybody on their roster ... their offense will continue to sputter at times.

I was super happy with the effort last night at UB ... shame they couldn't pull that one out. Would have really helped boost their confidence.

No timeouts; who should have designed the play of the five on the floor who only had seconds before the ref would hand them the ball?

I'm pretty sure these guys go over this situation in practice. It's called Boals holding up a finger or yelling out a play. Having a timeout would have helped, but that's no excuse for having Preston throw the ball and either him or BVP not putting up the last shot. They were the only one's who scored in the game. That's inexcusable.

It looks obvious to me that Dartis will not ever be back to 100% of what he was. I feel for him. He's out there battling and doing the best he can. He is so stiff and rigid I feel like he's hurting and doing the best he can with what he has in the tank. Really sucks because he would have destroyed that record if he weren't injured.

This isn't inexcusable--its known as the fog of war. No timeouts and junk yard ball, they are going on instincts at that point. Dribbling out the clock with 4 seconds left is an example of inexcusable.

I doubt they go over situations like this in practice, they do not have the time. You'd have to go over every combination of potential players on the floor, from which side of the basket, which end of the court, who is the hot player, who is not, that's what timeouts are for. Obviously Preston takes the ball out most of the time and with less than 5 seconds he's not going to have time to get the ball back and to then make a power move to the hoop. Buffalo was probably coached at the last time out to know that it was paramount to guard Preston and BVP closely.

Respectfully disagree....you can go coast to coast in 4.9 seconds. You don't think Preston couldn't get the ball top of the key and make a power move to the hoop in 4.9 seconds?

I think you identified a bigger problem.

For the record, a clear-out iso with less than 5 seconds left is one of the last things I'd want.

Hoping this game gets Preston going again. Great performance by he and BVP. Hard to believe Dartis didn't score a single point in 25 minutes (and had 5 turnovers).

Foster, Roderick & Brown just nothing on offense gain. Hope coach continues to give them 10-15 minutes and a chance to prove themselves and gain some confidence.

I'd add in Murrell. They need something from those 4 guys. I am encouraged that Brown got 3 boards in a short time.

Interesting though - UB only had two bench points in the game - so a combined 2 bench points from 9 players playing 83 minutes. Ooofff.

A game dominated by super sophs. BVP, Preston and UB's Williams all setting career highs in points.
