Very nice win. We made the Bonnies looks very mediocre.

Every team will try to take Dartis out of the game. It will be interesting to see if/how he and the team can handle that.

Do we think Springs can hit threes consistently? I guess only time will tell. Hopefully one of the freshman can also consistently hit threes.

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

Agree on the McMurray threes, but if Springs is gonna continue knocking down big shots, I don't care where he plays on the floor.

He still needs to add a lot of muscle to handle the punishment he'll take on the defensive end guarding big men and on the glass, but offensively him out at the 3 point line stretches the D and opens up driving lanes for the guards. Then the defense is in a bind. Guard the drive and force him to kick, or sag off on the shooters? I'm totally fine with that trade off.

Rebounding is going to be an issue all season with this group, I fear. Simply because they don't have a ton of size. And the younger big guys need some more strength.

I'm torn between whether the Bonnies were truly bad or we just made them look bad.

I really like our big lineups. At any given time we usually had 2 players in at 6'10'' and our smallest guards (who played last night) were McDay and Dartis at 6'3''. This is a big change from prior years.

Our size allowed us to alter a ton of shots which doesn't show up in the box score.

When combined with improved perimeter shooting, we are a much better team than last year...and this is without having Murrell, Roderick, Price, and Brown.

You don't have to outrun the bear...just the other guy.

I don't yet know what McMurray's strengths are. Those three attempts were all chucks. Springs is not a center. In fact, he's more a 3 than a 5, or as Bomani Jones would say, there's a difference between "big man" and "tall man".

That's the one guy this year (and last) that I just can't peg. What does he do well? He hustles. Doesn't seem to be a strong shooter. Doesn't seem to have a post game. Doesn't look like a great athlete. Energy guy, maybe. But I agree, when the others get healthy I see McMurray as maybe the first guy to see his minutes go away.

But credit the Bobcats for disrupting them,

We definitely had some things go our way such as Springs brick 3 that went in but I think less "went our way" than we made it go our way. The refs really, really struggled in the first half. That charge call on BVP was maybe the worst I've ever seen. They showed it from behind the basket and when BVP leaves his feet the defender is not even in the picture yet. Seemed like the refs got into a makeup call ping pong match for much of the half. Several bad calls for both teams. The announcers complained about the last two foul calls on Planutis but they both were obvious calls IMO.

Those announcers seemed like significant Bonnie homers, so last night must have been rough for them.

I'm almost giddy after watching that game. Loved the offense we ran. Puts a lot of responsibility in the hands of Preston and he handled it well. As for St. Bonaventure, I don't think they'll shoot 16% (3-for-19) from three too often. Ohio will have to get better on the defensive boards, they only collected 58% of defensive rebounds. But hey, a 12-point road win against a solid St. Bonaventure program AND having room to improve is a great start.

Oh, and how great is it to have Jordy Dartis back? Hope he can stay healthy and have a great senior year.

In the post game they were very gracious to Ohio. I appreciated their positive comments toward Boals debut.

I had Russ & Rob on. There were at least 5 instances of them acknowledging we got a fortunate call or got away with a no call.

And it has to be emphasized that we won that game in hostile territory without the Gatorade Ohio Player of the Year, a top Maryland recruit, a 6-foot-7 experienced junior and one of the all-time leading scorers in New York state history. Just sayin....

I can't remember, but was Treg Setty similar when he came on board? He was a hustle guy who over time became a really solid player. Although Treg may have been a bit more of a raw athlete.

When we're watching ESPN+ (I did not last night), aren't most of the announcers going to be "homers" for the home team? I know in our case, Marty and Toni are a little more subjective, but I've watched more than one ESPN+ game that wasn't Ohio playing where the commentary was very much skewed for the home team.

It's not even close comparing Treg skill-set to Mason. McMurray just always looks like he doesn't know where to go on the floor and he's extremely tentative. There have been more than a few 3's launched that have nearly brought the backboard down. Once the other guys get back from injury, Mason's minutes won't be there at all unless there is massive foul trouble issues in games. Hope he can find confidence in practice and it will translate eventually on the court in the future, but I don't see the minutes coming for him this year.

I do like his energy but last year I ran into a Northeast Ohio coach who had seen McMurray a lot in HS. He said he was shocked that we offered and thought he was a D2 kid more like Gareri. If Springs and Foster develop and Granger can play I do not mind him being a 13th guy. Seems hard working and is a great teammate.

Uh, Treg didn't really come on strong till the second half of his last season. He even took it up a notch in the playoffs and carried us at times in those last games. McMuray has a long way to go, but in his defence, he also has a long time to get there. (A twist on the Smokey and the Bandit theme song, if you will)

Vermont just took the Bonnies to 0-2. That might temper some of our rampant optimism.

Vermont is the unanimous choice to win the America East and they have been really tough for several years. This is far less of an upset than Ohio's win at Bona.

The problem for St Bon is their shooting, about 30% overall last night, less than 15% from three. If they don’t step that up, they’re not going to be very good. Time will tell.

The Bonnies were also without their big man Osuniyyi. He's out a month after the knee bruise he sustained in the Ohio game.
