Howard and Rhode Island have not prepared us?

Seems to work for Alabama.

Alabama is assumed to be in the top 5 at the beginning of every season. They have to prove they don’t belong. Almost all don’t have that luxury.

That is interesting. I do believe the NCAA will wrap their arms around it. It will buy them a bunch of time to deflect the issue of paying players. And they still make their billions.

Coach K must have secured promises for endorsement deals for whatever athletes he signs in the future.... ;)

I mean, it's a joke, but also sort of true. Look at the guys who have gotten big shoe deals lately after leaving Duke -- Kyrie, Zion, Jason Tatum -- all got deals with Nike (or Jordan, owned by Nike). And Duke's a Nike school.

He knows who butters his bread.

You must say that if you’re a high school guy like Zion Williamson, and you want to get the best deal on your likeness, you would go to the school/ league that had the most tv exposure. And what would be wrong with that? Coaches do that all the time.

Again, you’ve missed Alabama’s non-league schedule

Back to the topic though, just wait until these endorsement deals are Cadillac’s and luxury apartments, or homes for families.

And what if they are? Compensation is compensation. Does anyone care if you get paid in coin of the realm or something else? It still would all be taxable.

And exactly how are mid majors going to be able to play this game? Football or basketball, this is simply a power grab to separate the competition

We are not currently eligible for a National Championship in Football. But by all means, let's deprive people of their right to earn money off of their talents and fame to preserve that sweet, sweet competitive balance. After all, if we go 13-0 four seasons in a row, maybe we'll get a playoff bid.

Mid majors aren’t really playing the game anyway. Except for a few money games. If you look at the top of the power five their facilities are better than the pros.

What P5/P6 schools do we really compete with for athletes? In football, I'd imagine it's Indiana, Boston College, Iowa State, Kansas, Pitt, and maybe a few other bottom-feeders of the P5 schools. In basketball, similarly it's Mississippi State, Penn State, Northwestern, Iowa State, and maybe a lower-tier Big 10/Big 12 school or two. These schools likely weren't going to be earning their athletes big endorsement dollars in those sports anyway. I'm not sure who we are losing competition to in this scenario.

If I were the NCAA, I would require each school to establish a fund that would be the repository for all money received from student athlete endorsement deals. That fund would then be divided amongst all the student athletes at the school and paid out equally to them each year. This would help with any Title 9/discrimination issues and takes away the incentive of donors "buying" star athletes. A star QB gets the same as the coed on the curling team. At the same time, all athletes would get some type of payment.

That might work at UVA (university of Venezuela).

Private outside endorsement monies would not be subject to Title IX Legislation

Financially this makes no sense to the player getting the endorsement deal.

Based on the number of D1 sports at O.U. figure a total of somewhere around 350 D1 athletes.

I sign an endorsement deal of ______ .I get 1/350th.of my endorsement money.
While a _________ (insert any sport) gets the same.

Why would I bother ?

Exactly. This is what I would do if I were the NCAA who apparently doesn't want this type of activity.

Some big time coaches are weighing in and they see big money coming from shoe contracts at the big level and shoe companies helping in recruiting of kids to “their schools”.

Add New jersey to the list of states in favor of this.

Yesterday the state introduced legislation to allow it.

The only D1 program we have in football is Rutgers.
Don't see this impacting them at all. :-)

Makes you wonder how many kids are going to reopen their recruiting.
