Now that Saul's term is over, the discussion around our AD has come into play.
Schaus hired Saul to 5 years, mistake in my mind as well as the $550k per.
He did hire Bolden, a good hire
He hired Webb, a bad hire
He did hire Smith, bad hire
He did not hire Frank
ETC ETC
If I was to give Schaus a grade for his time at Ohio it would be a C.
I have met Schaus several times. He is personable with small talk, but don't ask him any tuff questions cause you'll get the run around even if the question is posed for a yes or no answer.
I have no insight into our new President and his position on college sports.
I would be curious to learn if anyone has any insights into whether he is or is not a supporter?
Does Schaus have a contract? What are the terms?

Watching from afar, he's the one who has come out of this whole situation looking the worst. Needless to say, this hire will determine a great deal on how his tenure at OHIO is remembered.

Schaus was hired by President McDavis in 2008 at 225k per year. He also gets "performance bonuses" when any OU team wins a MAC Championship, when the football team makes a bowl game or when then mens basketball team makes the NCAA tournament.

He signed a 5-year contract extension in 2016 that runs through 2021. As of 2016 he was making 281k per year.

I’m not so sure about Smith being a bad hire. We have gone to the NCAA tourney twice since he’s arrived. Hadn’t gone since 1997 before him.

Thanks for the insight. So he's up for a contract renewal in the next 12 months. With that in mind, I'd say his seat is warm then.

I would not be shocked to see Schaus retire as his contract is set to expire. From what I have heard, his relationship with Nellis is about as good as the relationship between JS and Saul (i.e. bad to non-existent). When your boss forces you off of the NCAA Selection Committee (a lifelong, career-defining sort of goal), that more than stings a bit. Schaus was charged with spending more time fundraising instead, which is just not one of his strong points.

Personally,I wouldn't be surprised if Nellis retires before Shaus.

Also, other then dollars,I don't know much interest Nellis has in sports and or being involved in making tough decisions, like hiring like hiring coaches.

I agree. I believe you are correct that Shaus will retire if Nellis is still here at the end of his contract.
I believe Dr. Nellis looks at this as a pre-retirement job. A little research at the time of his hire showed a bit of friction between him and the Texas Board of Regents. Also not sure why our Board of Trustees "punted" on this hire? As Nellis came in with no "vision" or "Big plans and goals".

Schaus is an "institutional survivor" who knows how to play the various levers and shift blame as necessary to always come out in the eyes of the administration as "their guy." At least that's how it's worked in the past, and I suspect it'll work with Nellis.

His seat should be more than warm after blowing this entire basketball season... I really struggle trusting him on this search for new coach.
