He was cut from his Swiss team, he lost all confidence after transferring up and riding the pine. https://swiss.basketball/de/news/2019/01/07/union-neuchat...

So you know him personally enough to know he lost all confidence?

Yeah, he is getting outshined by former D2 guys. I hope he finds his game.

That doesn't answer the question I asked. Just because they were D2 guys doesn't mean that they aren't better players than Jaaron NOW.

I will not be given to your antagonism, anybody can see that his game has cratered since declaring for the draft and transferring to Michigan. He went from creating his own shots at Ohio to missing layups and open jís at Michigan and now in Europe. The article says that he failed to live up to the teams expectations.

For a guy who rambles on about deflecting and mediocrity, your inability to simply answer a basic question with this shabby pair of responses is pretty mediocre in it's own right.

Meditation is healthy, I agree. Since you keep dodging the question, per the usual, I'll assume that you don't know shit about Jaaron personally and his confidence and just move on from this conversation.

Cussing wonít help the MEDIation, nor will denial of the facts. Jaaron is not the same player period, we had a backup point guard last in a German a league for a few years. Whether I know him personally or not, we can all see this if our emotions have not clouded our vision, we can go back to jaaronís interviews at Michigan and see that he lost his confidence. We can be rational or mad an irrational, I choose the latter.

Any word from the Von Trapp family in the Swiss Alps if J-Smooth ever dribbled out the clock in the last 5 seconds of a game with his team down two? Asking for a friend.

Thanks

Interesting.

That was a nice place to be. Tommy played for SAM Massagno along with Pete Campbell from Butler and a 6 10 kid from Oregon that played at Texas. League was full of players. I got to see games at Basel and Monthey...and yes SBH they left tickets ...AND the coach insisted I ride the team bus. 60 miles down to Milan on the off day and the train ride past Lake Como was spectacular. I was not aware they had a lower league. Interesting. Met a few Indiana guys playing over there from Lipscomb and other mids.

Not sure what allen is talking about with regard to confidence or D2's. It is a bit surprising that JS would not be one of the solid PGs over there.

I just have a question: do you know him personally well enough to determine that he's "lost all confidence"? Or can you cite any credible sources to support that?

I saw an interview with Jaaron where he said that he didnít understand the schemes at UM. I also saw one where when he went to Hawaii, they asked about his role and how he felt and he said basically that he did it to his self and we all saw him struggle and his struggle has continued. I donít believe that you have to know someone personally to make a hypothetical statement about confidence. My statement is a hypothesis and OU country is upset about the Saul thing so-it spilled over to this thread. We as fans have opinions, just like when BVPís numbers started to slide, some like me suggested he hit that freshman wall and others said that he was just one dimensional. I attribute Jaaronís struggles to his confidence, because I have seen what he is capable of. I also attribute it to other peopleís experiences of falling, it is hard to get back up. If he stayed at Ohio, he would have possibly been the MAC player of the year and would have been invited to Portsmouth and maybe he would have gotten a NBA camp invite. You go overseas with that resume, you probably get a better deal and you probably last a couple of seasons. D.J. was MVP of a league that had current NBA allí-stars in it. I donít think that I have made an outlandish statement. Heck, I think that most of us deduce the same thing.
Here is a quote from he and Beilein.
"I'm not used to sitting on the bench," Simmons said after posting five points and four assists in 12 minutes in Michigan's 74-59 win Wednesday. "But at the same time I'm going to be there to support my teammates whether I'm out there playing or sitting on the bench cheering."

Beilein spoke about him on his radio show on Monday night, after Simmons converted his only shot attempt, a 3-pointer, against Wisconsin Sunday. "That just made my heart warm to see him go in there and make a shot. Because his attitude has never wavered. What that kid gave up to come and play for us -- it hasn't worked out the way either of us dreamed but at the same time he's in there every day working his tail off."

Expectations wise.
Coming into the year, the departure of Derrick Walton Jr. was perhaps the most painful roster hit for the Michigan menís basketball team.

Jaaron Simmons was supposed to make it hurt a little bit less.

The former Mid-American conference star was coming off a season in which he averaged 15.9 points, 6.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game for Ohio ó Walton-esque numbers. Landing an experienced graduate transfer in Simmons was another example of coach John Beileinís keen, seldom-praised recruiting eye.

Because of his polished body of work, Simmons was the early front-runner for the Wolverinesí starting point guard spot. In addition to Simmonsí past production, the 2016-17 season inspired little confidence that then-freshman point guard Zavier Simpson could shoulder extra responsibility.

But fast forward nine months since Simmonsí announcement, and it looks like an experiment gone wrong. His current statline of 1.4 points, 1.4 assists and 0.7 boards is beyond falling off a cliff. Itís hitting rock bottom. Until recently, he sat behind Simpson and freshman Eli Brooks.

Being relegated to the role of the backupís backup wasnít a shock, even to the casual observer. Simmons looked uncomfortable, either with sloppy ball-handling or an inability to create a shot for himself, a skill that was on display with the Bobcats. After registering 10.9 minutes a game through the first eight games, that number dipped further to 6.2 in the next 11 contests, five of which he didnít play in. Coachís decision.

ďWe had different rules (than Ohio) that he wasnít picking up as quickly,Ē Beilein said Sunday. ďÖ Heís handled it like a champion. I told his parents they should be so proud of how heís handled it. He gave up a lot to come here to play on the big stage. It hasnít worked out so far.Ē

I have no idea Allen why people don't understand this either. You don't need to know an athlete personally to see if they've lost confidence or not. Did anyone on Bobcat Attack not read one J-Smooth article last year when he was at Michigan? Did anyone not watch one Michigan game last year and see the guy on the bench with a towel wrapped around his neck and head down during games the entire season. Yeah, that was J-Smooth. In 12 months, the guy went from averaging nearly 16 points per game to averaging 1.4 points per game. Yeah...I don't know J-Smooth"personally" and I'm not Dr. Naismith, but good grief he clearly did not pick up Beilen's system, did not understand it and lost total confidence. J-Smooth will look back on transferring to UM as one of the worst decisions of his life.

Would you rather ride the pine all the way to the National Championship game or would you rather play 35 minutes per game, have a real chance at MAC Player of the Year and have a little better shot at impressing scouts? I say "little better shot" because let's be honest, he had no chance to play in the NBA even if he stayed at OHIO....none. And to top it off...the sustaining memory Ohio fans are left with during his time at Ohio is J-Smooth dribbling out the clock in the MAC semifinals.

I wish J-Smooth well in his post-basketball life and hope he can take advantage of that Michigan degree since that was such an important part of his decision making process.

PS I'll give anyone a quarter to bump up the "Jaaron to Michigan" 3,675 thread. Hahahahahahaha

For some reason this quote reminded me of the speculation by one poster in the now legendary Simmons thread of yore that Beilein knew from the beginning that Simmons probably would ride the pine but encourage the transfer anyway just to screw OHIO as revenge for 2012. May be far-fetched, but somehow I think it's possible.

History has proven that J.S. was surely getting very bad advice from people he should not have been listening to. Those people had zero understanding of the type of system that Bielien runs. JS was used to having the ball all the time, allowed to dribble it unti it ran out of air. A hugely different way to play on offense at Michigan. Did I mention defense? He was below average on defense while at Ohio, and his inability to guard decent Big 10 players stood out as soon as he hit the city limits of Ann Arbor.

There are people who spend years wondering what would have happened if they had only pursued one avenue over another. Hats off to Jaaron for taking a chance, which didn't work out in the short-term as well as he imagined. Surprise, surprise that one of the top players on a Saul coached team did not turn out to have the talent to win a starting position at Michigan. He still made the team and had the experience of going on a deep run into the tournament. Not everyone can say that. Hopefully, this young man will now work on finding another passion that he can be successful at and go on to live a full and happy life.

He took a chance, played for an excellent coach, and was a part of a team that ended up in the championship game. I will go out on a limb that he does not regret his decision.
