Practice gym should have definitely been one of the variables here. It hampers our development significantly as a program.

I don't disagree with you, but this snippet from the link says:

"Facilities – Not just the arena, but also practice facilities, weight room, locker rooms, etc"

Not sure I understand the "recruiting base" being a 10. I know Athens is remote, but being an hour from Columbus where we've gotten a lot of our historic talent makes it better than a 10. And Miami being a 9 on there for that?

Just a guess on the "recruiting base" - and not sure what radius they used, but what area "near" Athens produces a large number of D1 basketball athletes outside of Columbus?

Miami's radius I'd think would include both Cincinnati, Dayton and maybe Louisville and/or eastern Indiana.

I don't think SW Pennsylvania or West Virginia helps us much in this department.

But again that's speculation on my part.

I could disagree on minor points or individual rankings here or there but on the whole my own list would probably end up pretty close to this one.

Why Miami gets knocked I will never understand. Told my buddy who is moving up in their dept it's real simple at Miami: Control the diamond for ballplayers and you can win 20+ games in basketball. When I say the Diamond, it goes from the Limaland over to Columbus, down south of Cincinnati, and all the way over to Indianapolis. If they land good kids out of that area they should be a viable MAC team every year.

/\ Excellent point, and it's right in their own back yard. That arena, and their lackluster student and alumni support is an issue to contend with though.

One could perhaps apply similar logic to Ohio, in a way, making it a triangle. One point being Athens, the other Cleveland metro area, and the other the Cincy metro area.

Right now yes, but getting a coach who understands where Miami historically gets kids out of can be a load and a half there.

Same could be said for us as we’ve had almost as many kids from Minnesota during this century than we have from Columbus

Guess you haven't been to many other MAC arenas.

That was my thought when I saw that comment. Ohio's atmosphere is a far cry from what it used to be but it's still significantly better than almost every other MAC school. There were probably 50 people in Bowling Green's student section the other night and maybe 500 fans overall (though attendance was listed as 1,442).

I think those ratings were based on year-in-year-out, not how things may stand for a particular couple of seasons. Convo atmosphere could get rejuvenated in a couple of years potentially if the right moves are made.

Thought there were more than 500 there...and there was a decent amount of noise..

You must be from the Limaland area (as am I) if you're using the term "Limaland" because I'm pretty sure no one else knows or uses that reference. It's probably the best hotbed of basketball talent in Ohio on a per capita basis.
