Ohio went from 1985 to 1994 and 1994 to 2005. Ohio just happened to have two in three years and win games when they got there. A seven-year wait is pretty normal for this program.

Recent history: Larry Hunter, Tim O'Shea and John Groce all went to the NCAA Tournament in first 5 years on the job. Hey, if you guys think it's just fine for Ohio to go 7-10 years without sniffing the Big Dance....Ok, cool. I don't think that's how most people feel on this board.

Geez.

Ohio never took advantage of the Sweet 16 year. Seven lost years since then for the program unfortunately.

^^^ Thank you Leon. 100% correct

Not necessarily 100% Correct. Partly correct. The JC hire probably wasn't the right one, but they did OK for a couple years. In hindsight, a better hire at the time might have been to retain Ford (or bring back Holtmann) as head coach - a guy running the same system with the same approach might have retained Bradds or Lavert...maybe.

But the major cause is three coaches from 2012-13 to 2014-15. Not even programs like Louisville (doing it now) could have that happen and maintain the same level of performance year over year.

The Blue Ribbon analysis of both USF and Loyola Marymount pick them at the bottom of their conferences, so you would think that these are games we should win. Both teams are very big with a 7'2" center on USF and a 7'3" center on Loyola and surrounded by other bigs. It appears our outside game is going to have to be working to pull off the sweep.

Out of curiosity, where does blue ribbon project Ohio in the MAC?

I would guess middle of the pack at best ....

Wish I had my Blue Ribbon handy, but it's on the coffee table at home. I think it was similar to the votes in the media.

On the actual game with USF, they're in rebuild mode with Brian Gregory, who miraculously got this job after being just OK at Ga Tech. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Gregory

They scraped by Austin Peay at home in OT on Monday as part of this tournament:
http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/team/_/id/58/...

At least in that game, they were NOT a good shooting team, both from the floor, and at the line. As a team after two games, they're shooting 54% from the line. Their two leading scorers in that game are both grad transfers it appears (TJ Lang, LaQuincy Rideau). Leading scorer off the bench is a transfer as well (Mayan Kiir).

Just out of curiosity, do we know how they pick the winner of the Classic? They don't have any brackets and all the games are pre-selected. The only information their website gives about the games is what a great place Jamaica is.

I don't think there is a winner. It's no different than most of of the "tournaments" Ohio plays in most years except for a couple of the games being in Jamaica. Ohio has a so-called tournament on its schedule every year, which in most years is just a round-robin of sorts that allows teams to schedule an extra couple games.

For example, two years ago, Ohio played in the "Global Sports Shootout," which was a round robin with Georgia Tech, Tennessee Tech and a couple other teams. Playing in an exempt event (which includes up to four games) eventually allows a team to play up to 31 games before conference tournament time rather than just 29.

I'm not sure how this Jamaica event could with their format. Seems odd - why not have the teams play one more game and get there one day earlier?

Some events, such as the Charleston Classic last year, do have a champion. I think the Myrtle Beach event does as well.

If you go to the "about" page of their website (https://www.jamaicaclassic.com/championships/jamaica-classic /) they list FSU and Hartford as their "current champions." They have the 2017 games listed but not the results. I know it's pretty laid back down there, but still...

Ohio had 12 points at 11:32 of first half. Under 4 timeout and they haven't scored another basket. 20-1 Bulls run.

Kind of disappointing first half. No urgency and no execution.

Let this sink in. On a neutral court, we just lost to a South Florida team on national television by 27 points. A South Florida team that is led by a first-year Head Coach and picked to finish 12th in the AAC. Meanwhile, our coach is in his fifth year and looks completely befuddled. How many games has Saul lost by 20 or more points while at Ohio? This is one of the most embarrassing performances in Ohio basketball history. Future looks bright. #LetThatSinkIn

Kirk had 8 turnovers, 0 assists. Team had 20 turnovers, 7 assists. 2-for-25 from three. Ohio just can't match up physically with most teams. And Brian Gregory specializes in physical.

"Ohio just can't match up physically with most teams."

I agree with this and whose fault is this? I mean...look at the guy who recruited this roster. I keep hearing how great DT has improved. Sorry, I don't see it. He still plays soft and struggles to catch the ball and hold onto it in traffic. Nobody can make anymore excuses for this team and program. We have a coach in his fifth year who just lost by 27 points on a neutral court to a below average South Florida team picked to finish 12th in the AAC. #LetThatSinkIn

This is a reasons and/or results business. The reasons are becoming overwhelming.
