So the mens hoops Twitter page has some team pics up, and I noticed a couple of guys I hadn't heard anything about on the recruiting page (unless I missed it). John Tenerowicz and Jarrell Reeves. I'm assuming Tenerowicz is a walk-on, but Reeves is listed as a Soph previously at Bethel College. Anyone know anything about these guys? Both walk-ons?

(And spare us all the "these guys suck because Saul recruited them" junk, I'm just curious if anyone knows any details)

I'm just going to assume they are both walk-ons since we haven't seen anything from the staff and/or Arkley about them being on scholarship.

Hmmm...odd.

Certainly most likely all walk-ons but still odd.

Since rosters were posted in September we've seen Jaylin McDonald no longer a part of the team and we've added three guys:

#12 John Tenerowicz
#14 Chris McGraw
#21 Jarrell Reeves

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

Went to a Mac football game over the weekend and heard Jaylin McDonald was asked to drop some engineering classes only offered in the fall which conflicted with basketball practices. Sounds like this young man chose academics over athletics. Smart move. Not on scholly. Costing him more money and pushing his graduation further off. Ball wont bounce forever.

Oh, my God, an actual student athlete! How novel is that. Can you imagine what might happen if the basketball team actually had to bend a little bit to meet certain academic standards? I hope that this does not start a trend. Ohio might have to actually give up on their National Championship hopes.

Good for him. I had to make the same tough decision between engineering and baseball. I too chose engineering. It was the smart move for me then and it will be the smart move for Jaylin now as well.

Good luck to him!

Good for Jaylin but are you surprised that the team wouldn't bend for a player to miss practice whose only real value to the team is at practice? There are no bad guys in this. Life is full of these kinds of decisions.

Not at all surprised. The team needs a full practice squad everyday. With so many injuries last year they were unable to practice effectively. The new walk-ons will do great from what I’m hearing. No blame here. Just reporting what I heard. Best to Jaylin and The Bobcats this season can’t wait to opening game!

When I played soccer for O.U.,practice started late enough that most classes were over.
If there was an issue, including guys who were hurt,we usually had more than enough players for 2 full teams.
At that time I think we had 2 scholarships. So we were all walk-ons.There was also no chance at a pro career,so you were there to get your degree.

Most professors would work with you if you had to miss class or an exam for a game.

When I wrestled for F.D.U. 1 other starter and myself were engineering majors.
2 starters were pre-med.

It was made clear to us on the first day of practice that school came first.
They scheduled the start of practice after day classes were over.
Most of us didn't take evening classes. But if you did,and had to leave practice early.
No problem.
Same thing,if you needed to skip practice to study for an exam, that was O.K.

The professors also knew we were students first,so,except for a couple of guys who hated athletics and athletes in general, they would try to work with you, especially for labs.
Most of our labs were Friday afternoons. That was a problem when we had to leave for weekend matches.
They would either let us come in early or on another day.
At that time, most classes didn't have exams on Fridays,so that wasn't a problem.

I heard Saul runs practice in the middle of the day.

I don't remember who the coach was the first season I went out for the team (73-74).
I only remember he left before the 74 season.
I don't have a team picture for that year.

In 74 we had a volunteer coach.
He was an Italian Professor.
I looked at our team photo.
His name was Dr. Gianna Spera.
Great guy,but not a great coach.

This ain't hard to figure out. No practice facility +3 teams +dance team +cheerleaders +additional usage by teams on rain days=packed schedule. And oh yeah, forgot about volleyball currently.

Not having a practice gym hurts this program far worse than people can imagine. Hate to say this, but this should have been priority #1 and #2 versus building the academic center and weight room upgrades and wait on the next trend in that aspect. I get I will get shot down in flames for the academic center quote, but right now not having a place for all of our teams to practice creates significant problems.

I'm not shooting you down at all on this one. You can find more space on campus for academics than you can for indoor athletic practices. I agree it should be higher on the priority list.

+1. IMO, the Academic Center is a "nice to have". A practice gym is a "must have".

But, don't hold your breath for a practice gym anytime soon. Our top donors are mostly tapped out, and the current campus environment is not exactly friendly to athletics. Don't expect any major projects under the current administration.

I agree that there should be a practice gym.

That could be addressed if/when they replace Bird Arena.

From what I read, building a new ice arena next to Ping was a top priority.
Apparently not.

What I don't understand is why Ping can't be used for some practices ?

I would also think that, except for volleyball games, men's and women's basketball would get priority in scheduling at the Convo.

Pretty hard to schedule practices around that many athletic teams using the convo gym. They definitely should place priority on a practice gym. This would benefit all teams. Is there any flexibility with Ping to use their court?

According to O.U.'s web site,Ping has 5 full size basketball/volleyball courts and 2 multi purpose gyms.
I've been there a bunch of times, but never counted.
I would think the dance team and cheerleaders could use a multi purpose gym or even the IPF to practice.

Volleyball ends in November. After that, you only have to schedule mens' and womens' hoops.

Doesn't seem that, between the Convo and Ping, this would be an insurmountable task.

Pretty sure someone on this board has stated the relationship between ICA and Recreation/Ping is not...the best.

Bob Bradley coached Bobcats soccer in early 1980's for 2 (maybe 3) years.
