If he stays eligible, that's a heckuva player Akron just got.....

Do you think he can play enough D to stay in JG's good graces? He wasn't the greatest defender or rebounder at UD. Always seemed mostly like a spot up shooter in the games I watched.

He only has one year of eligibility left. As I recall, Akron had plenty of ships. So not a bad stash for Groce. In 2016-17 when he had decent playing time, he was an excellent 2-point shooter, 3-point shooter, offensive rebounder and shot blocker (not that shot blocking is the complete measure of a defender).

I'm only 31. I'm too young to be yelling at clouds. But damn, do kids these days not know how to handle the slightest adversity? Do AJ Gareri, Zach Butler, Rodney Culver, etc. really think they have no hope at Ohio? Does it suck that much to play basketball at Ohio University? Does it suck so much at Northern Kentucky with their outstanding season (albeit without a tourney bid) that Carson Williams leaves?

That's one hell of a question. One I'd be interested in the responses from the individuals you named there, among others. Especially after just one year at the school. With Butler and Culver, they both would have likely played 20-25+ minutes per game as Sophomores assuming their game developed a little from year one to year two.

Gareri looked totally outclassed every time he stepped on the floor. Hopefully he'll find a school where he can thrive and have fun.

I can understand if his injuries got in the way of his development and practice time. But the dude played. When he was healthy enough to dress, he was in the rotation.

Not everyone is going to be on the all-freshman team, but Gareri, Butler, and Culver were still in the rotation. I just think that when guys transfer this early after being in the rotation is their way of saying they made a mistake in where they signed, but from my point of view, they didn't. I remember reading an interview with Culver last summer where he said he didn't know where his minutes were going to come from. Earn your minutes! It makes me respect guys like Mike Laster that much more.

AJ got his minutes this winter because Saul had very few other options and he showed very little when he was on the floor.

I can't help but wonder if someone on the staff whispered some words of advice into his ear recently about what might be best for him.

He reminded me of Maxwell in football. He looked kind of like a deer caught in the headlights. However, Maxwell stayed, got a lot more practice reps, and some additional game experience as a backup, and now, according to all reports is a much improved QB. In coach speak, the game has slowed down for him. Fighting through adversity makes one stronger. Quitting and going to a new venue is seldom the right move when viewed in retrospect.

22% shooting that included 20% from three.

Trevecca Nazarene College is getting a new coach. Maybe that would be a good place for him to play hoops.

Apparently a Tech coach came from TN where he started. Said Tariq "I'm big on relationships, always have been," Owens told Daniels (reporter). "When I was at Tennessee I did a lot of work with Coach Pinkins...

Cause his relationships are soooo solid and committed to.

So you're the new coach? If you're not, you should really apply. You seem to know so much about grading out high school basketball talent and recruiting JUCO players.

If they waited another year, maybe your husband Saul would have been a good candidate, Mrs. Phillips.

They already have a 7-1 guy who made 23 baskets in 24 games.

This is not a surprising response you. Tears down everyone in the program the minute they're not doing things to his satisfaction, and responds like this when questioned.

I would agree that they should do that, at least with one of the two open spots.

Ryan Luther... just officially released from Pitt... 6-9/230

If that is not an ideal grad transfer, a veteran of the ACC and all - as long as he is recovering on schedule from the injury that sidelined him.

I don't know a lot about him other than the fact he's recovering from an injury, from the ACC, he's big, and he played on the worst team I've seen in person in recent memory.
