I'd go for a Treg Setty type. I think that guy was responsible for several victories that would have been defeats without his infectious hustle and go-get-em attitude.

I thought Murell and McMurray were already Setty types.

I only want a grad transfer if it's a post player. Taking someone like the guard from Iowa seems like it would step on the toes of some of the pieces that have been here for awhile, namely Dartis, Block and Gollon. A freshman guard would be better for the future of the program.

I would love a Treg type. If we are talking types I would say we need a Rico Johnson type. Other than T Kirk I dont see a reliable slasher.

I agree. That is a great point. We have an Ellingson in Gollon.

Add Zach Butler to the list. Definitely need an athletic wing now.

Definitely need another point guard STAT! We will not be able to live with just T-Kirk as our lone point guard. I had a feeling about Butler. When Kirk was signed it basically sent him to the back whereas before Kirk he was "the" guard in the signing class. Saul has a golden chance to still add some quality players in a Mickle mode now (or better).

Add Carson Williams from NKU to the transfer list.

I'd say go after him hard except he'd have to sit out a year. I'd like to see both of our schollies go to guys who are eligible right away.

I like him but I agree that we need help right away. There's a gap between Ohio and the top of the MAC and these scholarships are two chances to close it.

Agree. Add two guys to the rotation with Carter and Vander Plas and who we have returning and we could be really good.

Playing right away is great, but in my mind if we can get an impact guy like Carson Williams then I am okay with him sitting out a year. 12 ppg on over 60% from the field. That is some next level efficiency.

Carson Williams would be a great addition. Two years of him and JC in the post would be a lethal combo. But yeah, we probably need help right away unfortunately.

My only other concern with Williams is that he's a 6'4" post player. Will be interesting to see where he lands.

Kent State had a 6-4 post player that became MAC MVP...and a star in the NFL.

Better a 6-4 guy built athletically than a 6-10 guy built like Olive Oyl.

I think most of us want to "get it right" versus "be right," despite there being quite a bit of polarization on how to achieve the intended goal. One thing however I'm starting to see cohesiveness on whether you're pro or anti-SP is the perceived need that the roster needs instant impact guys vs. more developmental guys. I'm pretty sure SP made is very clear he does not prefer the JUCO, transfer route. But I'm agreeing that prefer it or not, an injection of talent/athleticism while guys further develop/we rethink the recruiting strategy, is warranted and maybe required to stay afloat.

[/QUOTE]

I agree wholeheartedly. Our current roster healthy, with an injection of 2 impact players via JUCO or transfer, may work. And I probably mean bringing in someone more impactful than a couple Mickles--so the task can't be easy. However, I don't wholeheartedly agree that the current roster +JC -Laster - Mickle + BVP and the unknowns get the job done as many have implied. Heathly or not, I think it's much better, but not nearly enough. I think it gets you out of 10th in the MAC. I think it gets you in the Top 25% of the MAC. I think it gets you just good enough to not get fired and you can ride the "we're seeing improvement motto" into another year or two. But it doesn't make you special or achieve the NCAA every 3-5 years goal. Just a hunch.

But Jeff, we're on the exact same page with our big goal on positive that could come about by having 2 scholarships come open. Could be a blessing in disguise?

We saw that very scenario back in 1989-90 during Larry Hunter's first season as head coach (and my first year as a student on campus), when Jerry Lebold (former TE on the football team) took over from Rick Hoffman (6'9", 190 lbs.) as the starter in the post.

With this being a contract year for Saul, I think he goes for two "win now" type players. It doesn't seem to be his style to sift through the JUCO ranks for the next Maurice Ndour, but I think he has to this spring/summer.

Ryan Luther... just officially released from Pitt... 6-9/230

If that is not an ideal grad transfer, a veteran of the ACC and all - as long as he is recovering on schedule from the injury that sidelined him.

Well at least he has the injury thing going for him.

I would agree that they should do that, at least with one of the two open spots.

I don't know a lot about him other than the fact he's recovering from an injury, from the ACC, he's big, and he played on the worst team I've seen in person in recent memory.

Re: Luther

He was averaging a double-double (13pts and 10 boards), was shooting 39% from three. Plus 3 assists and 2 steals / game. Two-time All-ACC Academic Team selection. Scored 30 or more points six times in high school. Consensus three-star recruit by Scout, Rivals and ESPN. No. 1 ranked player in the Pittsburgh area in the Class of 2014. Picked Pitt over Virginia Tech, Dayton, Buffalo, etc.

How does that compare to the outgoing Ellis Dozier? Or the incoming Nathan Springs?

That's a shocker. I thought he was getting rotation minutes up there.
