That list is about to double in the next 48 hours, BTW. If Saul doesn't get a couple of guys leaving their schools but signed a guy who benched 120...

It's just natural to think there might be some losses on the roster. We have lost at least one player in 5 of the last 6 off-seasons. It's the new landscape of college basketball.

The rest of his post is pretty stupid though. Who cares what a guy bench presses, he's a basketball player, not an offensive lineman.

We'll see how that works out.

Do some of you really want Ohio basketball to fall into the bottom 50 of the 351? That is what will happen after next season with the current recruiting trajectory. Taylor may not be a skilled big, but at least nobody is going to kick sand in his face.

Friendly wager on where Sands ends up in a couple of years. Denison? Rio Grande?

Spoken like someone who has never actually played the game. Yeah, because basketball isn't a physical sport or anything....nope. You don't need strength to maintain positioning. To shake a defender to get open. For defense. For boxing out and rebounding. For grabbing/maintaining possession of the basketball. Nah.

In fact I can't think of any high-major D1 players or NBA guys who focus on their body and the weight room to become ripped and physical specimens at all.

I mean, they aren't offensive linemen.

Yeah, and definitely nobody ever gets recruited based on their skill with an undersized body and room for growth in the strength department. I'm sure we won't have a training/strength program to get them to a D1 level. Let's keep focusing on brute strength coming out of high school. Because you certainly can't improve someone's diet or training regimen.

this is the dumbest argument ever. Bench press can be doubled in a year, probably less.

I did play actually, coached at the high school level for a few years too. Of course strength is a factor, but Kevin Durant couldn't even bench press 185 once when he was at Texas. You think they had fans on their board saying not to recruit him because of it?

Can anyone tell me what DJ Cooper could bench press? He was pretty skinny, probably a waste of a scholarship too.

No I can't, but probably not a lot. Then again that's one of the main reasons DJ isn't playing in the NBA - his size/strength or lack thereof.

Also, positions matter. A lot less physical 20 feet away from the basket where you get calls for hand-checking. You can survive with a kid who still needs to add bulk a lot easier there. Not so much in the low post.

DJ Cooper was also not a 6'10 post. Put that 120# presser up against the Buffalo front line.....and if you're thinking Patrick Flomo 2.0, think again- skill set is not close.

That's not the point. The point is that you can still be an effective basketball player despite being skinny.

How much could Maurice Ndour bench when he got here? It doesn't matter because he was skilled, could rebound, score, and run the floor. Is Nathan Springs the next Maurice Ndour? Probably not, but if he isn't it's just because he's not as good of a player, it won't be because he can't bench as much.

I think you hit the nail DCF.

Everyone matures at different rates. Strength Coaches are worth their weight in gold. One of the best for Basketball is former Miami big man Adam Fletcher https://twitter.com/Adam_Fletcher41 Scroll down through his Twitter feed and look at the transformations.

Tommy could not get over 170 despite protein drinks and eating voraciously. Groce wanted him 200. Whenever he would get close he would get sick fighting through mono, strep...whatever. I told him it would come as I stayed at 179 lbs no matter what I ate till I was in my 50s in the mid 2000s when I stopped doing triathlons after a knee injury. He finally got to 200 his senior year with a lot of food, work and Basgier's strength training. Genetics, activity and metabolism are the keys.

As far as recruiting, one of the things you look at is how mature a kid is and what kind of frame he has along with a quick look at parents to see potential. No comment on the kid coming in as I have not seen him but he sounds like a late mature that will need nutritional counseling and strength conditioning. Definitely need some weight to hold your own inside.

As Eagle66 announced in another thread, WMU losing Reggie Jones. Regular contributor who averaged 10 points on the team this season so it's a pretty big loss.

NIU big man Owen Hamilton transferring as well. Played sparingly for the Huskies throughout the year.

List is up to 115 on VC. Name that popped out to me was Xeryius Williams transferring from Dayton. Ohio offered him during Christian's last year here and verballed to Dayton a few months after Saul was hired, so who knows if there is a connection.

He had 13 points, 7 boards and 6 assists in the game against Ohio down in Charleston. Played pretty well in the beginning of the year and averaged over 11ppg until a back injury pretty much ruined his season. Sounds like our kinda guy! ;)

Peyton Willis (Guard...Vandy) will have to sit and then 2 years left**

**unconfirmed rumor he was leaning toward MTSU but their coach may be taking the Ole Miss job any minute now, so that does complicate things. He's pretty good and is big for a guard. But Saul doesn't have an open grant, so he'll just have to go to some other lucky mid-major.
