It's time to go get these guys and make up for that tight game at Kent. We can play the spoiler in these last several games. A Kent buddy of mine thanked me for beating Miami. Now we can affect Kent as well. Building positive momentum into next year is important.

Let's string together a few victories. If we can get a healthier Laster and another Block Party, I think we will be well on our way.

Solid.

I love scoring in the 80s.

That was by far the best the ball has moved all season.

we are scoring some points lately, aren't we? it was frustrating when we couldn't put them away until seemingly the last minute, but two in a row sounds good. Now let's go beat Buffalo.

Great offensive win.

Best last place team in the MAC in recent memory. If Dartis is hot this team can knock off any team in the MAC. Now let's keep winning, get healthy, and make a run to Cleveland!

No one will want to face us in the first round of tourney! ;-)

Confession: I found myself cheering for Miami as I saw the score of their game coming down to the end. Buffalo is like an obnoxious new money family that needs you to know how important they are.

Kirk is being Kirk. He's not going to be good - he's already good. Just wish he could improve that AST-TO ratio and become more of a true PG. Hopefully with time.

Dartis appears healthier. Everyone knows it, but (assuming he's healthy) he just needs to keep shooting the rock. When he's "on" we can compete. When he's not, we have a huge uphill battle.

But to me, I'll list 4 reasons why we're playing well these last few games:

1) James Gollon. Love the SP move to make him a starter. He brings energy, hustle, defense, REBOUNDING! and *gasp* ball movement on offense (needed without that true PG). Averaging 10.0 ppg over his last 6 games.
2) Kevin Mickle. Dude is on a TEAR offensively over his last 3 games. 21-36 from the field (.583) for 49 pts (16.3 ppg). If we're going to get 20-25 pts a night from Gollon/Mickle as the 3rd and 4th scoring options behind Kirk/Dartis (and that kind of production from the bench), I like our chances.
3) Doug Taylor. You may love him or hate him, but he's been EFFICIENT. Last 2 games he's 10-12 from the field (.833!). He's never going to be an offensive juggernaut, but if he can keep scoring 6-8 a night while shooting > 60% from the floor and giving us 7+ boards and a couple blocks? I'll take that all day errday.
4) Gavin Block. The kid does everything right - he just....can't shoot this year. But I applaud him for putting the team first and not complaining about a reduction in minutes and a new bench role. We still need his passing/IQ/hustle/leadership but it was the right move for the team and he accepted it like a man. Good on him.

Good win tonight. Hopefully we get on a little bit of a role here. Good things to build on for next year.

Don't get me wrong, I still don't think we're going anywhere in the MAC tourney (even if we steal a win on the road in the 1st Rd we'd likely face a Toledo or Ball St in Cleveland in Rd 2), but we're playing significantly better.

Like a lot of what you're saying here especially regarding Taylor. I think people first saw Doug and they saw this big body and immediately went "next Leon Williams" in their heads. He's never going to be that. I'll take another Terren Harbut though. Harbut was the key piece to that '05 team.

The team just knows how to battle. They've been through some dog fights this year and have come out on the losing end. It looks like it's starting to turn around a little bit. Even if it doesn't end on a high note this season, putting some Ws up before the end of the year and maybe pulling and upset or two in tournament play could bode well for next year's momentum. I've wanted to see progress all year and we're finally seeing it.

Kirk is just a different type of point guard..more Allen Iverson (score first) than Steve Nash (assists). I like when Butler and Kirk are on the floor together because Butler turns into the primary ballhandler.

Gollon has been a revelation and you can tell Mickle's knee is much better. Doug is Doug. If we had Jason Carter inside Doug would be even more effective and I think Mickle would be more effective as well not having to bang inside. He definitely does not look comfortable guarding big guys in the post (but he never complains..he just does his job).

I think we can steal a first round game and depending on the matchup, I think we can beat a Ball State in Cleveland. I really think our Kryptonite will be teams that can shoot well from outside. Kent was atrocious as was Miami which helped us. To finish the year I see us beating Bowling Green but losing to Buffalo and Miami. I would be happy with 6-12 with this group.

Thanks to Arkley, the Post and others, we're finally beginning to get a FULL picture on how injuries have decimated this team. Kudos to players and staff who are not out there whining. Dartis is healthy enough to play, but still hurting. According to Arkley, his hips will require work after the season. Not knowing the extent of the problem or whether surgery is required, I admire the effort this young man is putting out. Laster plays with a shoulder that could pop out at any time. Mickle is playing with a torn meniscus. We already know about Carter and our 2 big freshmen. I remain convinced that the injury Taylor suffered his senior year in high school stunted his growth by a year. Developmentally, he's now where he should have been at the end of his sophomore year. Gollon's development is very positive after his injury. To me, it's remarkable that they're playing well right now despite all the injuries. There's very little margin for error on most collegiate rosters, more so on teams in 1-bid minor leagues

Not to be a debbie downer, but the single biggest reason we have looked better the last 2 games is we played 2 mediocre-at-best teams at home.

Given how this season has gone, I'll take those wins over anyone we can.

And nobody has yet mentioned Block's gruesome dislocated finger last night. He was in such pain and I could see that something was at a terribly odd angle but he was holding his wrist in an odd way so I couldn't tell if he had snapped his wrist or it was a dislocation. When he went to the locker room I was just shaking my head at the season of injuries this team was having. To see him reemerge with tape and a smile was a big lift, and then I credit him with the turn around when Kent cut it to 60-62 at about the 9 minute mark. Almost immediately he hit his only bucket of the game on a tough twisting shot in the lane to go up four and then had a couple assists in our run over the next couple minutes to push the lead back to 10 plus.

Nobody in the building could question the "give a *darn*" of this team after seeing Block go off the court with digits pointing in unnatural directions, only to return minutes later with fingers taped and score a critical basket.

Great win for the Bobcats! I defiantly like the rotation and the starting lineup change. Minutes managed well. Nice ball movement kept all players active on both ends of the floor. Finish strong Bobcats!

Gollon looks like a different player than he was at the beginning of the year to my untrained eyes.

I thought I heard either Russ or Marty commenting on a recent broadcast that Gollon will need an additional surgery this off-season. If so he’s yet another to add to our MASH unit of a season. Could a case be made that Saul actually has done his best coaching job here keeping this ship from completely sinking considering all the red-shirts and those key players that are simply heroically gutting out this season playing with significant injuries?

Truth is probably in the middle on that one.

While the management of the available roster has been good, that roster is a bed of this staff's own making.
