A friend of mine shared this with me earlier today.

I love their idea of seeding based on the prior year's RPI/Ken Pom/season finish. I love including all D1 teams in the state. It's a better draw and better games than most other non-conf games all of these schools play.

Having this on a Saturday/Sunday at Nationwide would be brilliant. In this format, it might be a really tough ticket. Making it a week long event in terms of the Ohio Classic is also a great idea.

Now, here's the hangups: The number of MAC teams playing non-conference games against each other is a problem. Always playing in Columbus, in my mind, is also potentially a problem - why not The Q as well every so many years? Also, ensuring that the tournament, every year, is based on RPI finish, and not seeding UC/OSU/X automatically higher than MAC teams should be assured. Getting that occasional UD/UC/OSU travelling to Toledo/Ohio/Akron etc would be a bonus every once in awhile.

My solution to the quantity of MAC teams is simple: Take UC, UD, X, OSU. Then take half of the MAC teams in Ohio based on RPI, and the best Horizon league team in Ohio based on RPI. Build a Bracket of 8 -- home sites on Wednesday night prior, then all four winners come to Nationwide/Q for the weekend.

After that, you'd have to guarantee everyone at least two games, so have a losers bracket. Because if you don't guarantee two games, getting this off the ground for non-conference scheduling won't happen because teams need a predictable number of non-conference games.

I'd buy tickets to this every year, regardless of who ended up in the "final four".

I love the idea of an All-Ohio Classic ... but I think all the logistics are almost impossible in a tourney format or involving all the teams. I think it can be solved pretty easily ... round robin that rotates yearly. You don't need a tourney format. And you don't need every team involved. This would alleviate MAC teams or Horizon teams playing each other. You obviously need to guarantee X, UC, Ohio St and UD play each other to generate interest. No one cares if X or UC plays Wright State and Toledo in successive nights. The "others" outside of the Big 4 rotate yearly .. but you'd have to have at least one Horizon team get back-to-back because of there are only three ... and the MAC has six.

Year One (Nationwide Arena - Columbus)

Day One:
UC vs. Ohio
X vs. Akron
Ohio St vs. CSU
UD vs. Wright St

Day Two:
UC vs. Ohio State
X vs. UD
CSU vs. Ohio
Wright St vs Akron

Year Two (Quicken Loan Arena - Cleveland)

Day One:
UC vs. Kent
X vs. Toledo
Ohio St vs. Wright St
UD vs. YSU

Day Two:
UC vs. UD
Ohio St vs. X
YSU vs. Toledo
Wright St vs. Kent

Year Three (US Bank Arena - Cincy)

Day One:
UC vs. Miami
X vs. BG
Ohio St vs. YSU
UD vs. CSU

Day Two:
Ohio St. vs. UC
UD vs. X
Miami vs. YSU
CSU vs. BG

Year Four (UD Arena - Dayton)

Day One:
UC vs. Akron
X vs. CSU
Ohio St vs. Wright St
UD vs. Ohio

Day Two:
Ohio St. vs. UC
UD vs. X
Ohio vs. Wright St
CSU vs. Akron

Wash. Rinse. Repeat .... with shaking up the matchups.

The biggest hinderances in this format would be X and UD .... I'm not sure they want play each other every other year. When the A-10 split up ... I don't think their "divorce" was pretty. I'm guessing they would totally against doing this .... while they would both love shots at UC and Ohio St. And knowing Mick Cronin ... he'd be difficult just to be difficult. That's just Mick being Mick.

Also not jazzed about playing at UD Arena .... would be the only true home-court site. But it's the best venue in the state and would guarantee sell-out for every game .... which probably wouldn't be the case in the other three sites.

My two cents.
