Since I don't think many people on here follow collegiate wrestling.

I saw on one of the wrestling boards that, yesterday ,O.U's 174 pounder suffered an injury that resulted in the rest of the match being canceled.

That's all that's been posted.
No details.

Anyone know what happened ?

I didn't realize how serious this is. Thoughts with Austin and his family.

I was a bit surprised that, unless I missed it,there's nothing about this in The Post or on ohiobobcats.com.

I am as well. An Ohio student-athlete's heart and breathing stopped on the Convo floor during an athletic event and he had to be resuscitated -- apparently even with a defibrillator twice. Scary moments, but it appears he is doing OK now?

I heard from Tommy Sunday night as he was in the Convo working on the things GAs work on... said it pretty well shook him to see. Sounded like they had the AED and Squad did quick work.

One of the touring performing arts groups I work with started carrying our AED to every rehearsal and show every day 12 years ago IIRC. It travels on the tour busses and we have an EMT instruct about 55 critical personnel (teachers, administration, healthcare providers and select performers) each year to use it. As they become more commonplace and accessible I encourage everyone who is in a position to to get training and competent. Some of the other performing groups, especially the Cali groups fearing litigation, think we are crazy for having it and training our personnel but they would also be some of the first to come find us if they had a crisis. Stay involved, You may save a life. Glad they had a plan in place.

This is good information, and good advice!

My heart goes out to this young man and those who took quick action.

I always take an opportunity to plug AED training and CPR training. I am a survivor of Cardiac Arrest due to my son in law’s knowledge of CPR. Cardiac arrest on vacation and not near an AED. JK (my favorite son in law) did CPR until the squad and the defibrillator arrived. I am on of the approximately 4% who survive in that circumstance.

If you are going to have to do CPR the odds are it will be on someone you know. JK knows that when I vacation, he vacactions😀

I would hope that "Good Samaritan" Laws would provide protection against
liability, when someone is trying to save a life.

Then was an article in yesterday's The Record (Sorry it won't link) about how common athletes experiencing, and in some cases dying, from sudden cardiac arrest is.

It points out how important seconds are when this occurs.

It also shows the need for AED's at all levels of all athletic activities including practice.

No question, having a trained staff and an AED saved that wrestler's life.

We just completed CPR/ First Aid/ AED training at the library for staff. I was happy they offered it to us (no charge to employee, library covered) but only 10 0f 71 went through. I heard they were offering another round and might include student workers here. I'm hoping so as it is important as we can see.

ESPNU is broadcasting the NCAA wrestling consolations.

Billy Baldwin just did an interview with Austin Reese.

Comes off as a really nice kid, even if did say he's rooting for OSU to win the team title.

He talked about what happened from his perspective.

He said all he remembers was everything going white.
Then waking up in the ambulance.

Obviously his wrestling days are over, but he does want to stay involved in the sport by coaching.

Thanks for this. I did see a tweet with Baldwin and another wrestler, but didn't realize it was Austin.
