I've never met a coach who didn't think he could get more out of his players. Almost all yell and scream at some point. It's in their DNA. Huggins is a screamer. I never responded to that type of coach.

Calm down, people. Ball State is no slouch...we missed a lot of shots we should have made, it happens. Please remember our extremely highly regarded point guard bolted in the offseason, and our freshman of the year and super duper awesome player Jason Carter has been injured effectively all year, not to mention other lingering injuries. That is a tough pill to swallow, but aside from the CMU game, we have competed and shown we can succeed.

I'm certainly not looking to next year already and think this team can take off. If you've had apathy set in, fine go watch Netflix, I guess we'll see you when the team starts winning.

Hey, dude, I'm one of the few people on this board that saw both junior and senior Gill play. I was not disrespecting Chad with that comment about "Chad Gill disease." He had an overall good game; it's just that he often had trouble with layups. I joked about it a lot when he was playing. It was quite noticeable to anyone who attended games at that time. I suspect Chad himself would think it funny. He is no doubt aware that mid-range shots and other aspects of the game were stronger points of his game than finishing layups. Ill bet his outside shooting percentage was higher than his layup percentage. I wouldn't be surprised to discover that he and his teammates joked about that themselves.

And, what did I say about Charlie Gill? Nothing. He's one of my all-time favorite Bobcats. He was, of course, on the Elite 8 team of 1964: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Or1PDkEtHTo

I'm happy that both Gills attended OHIO. They both represented the university well. I was not implying otherwise.

Good points. This team doesn't have a Setty. Laster does try to carry the team and does so on many occasions. We need someone who can come off the bench when play gets lethargic and provide a pick-me-up. I was hoping that AJG might be that guy, but so far I haven't seen it. Maybe once he gets a little more playing time, he'll blossom into this kind of player.

And look at how they responded. They beat Oklahoma.

That's my point. Ohio doesn't seem to have those moments.

Huggins kicked WVU in the ass .... who's kicking Ohio in the ass?

Ohio beats NIU ... and then lets one slip away vs. Ball.

The NIU win was a nice response to the CMU beatdown.

But Ohio has had around five 20+ point beatdowns in the MAC over the last 4 years. That is a lot for this league .... and a lot for what is supposed to be a top tier MAC program.

I like to put it in context of the rest of the league, because most teams lay eggs during a year. What's the context of the rest of the league?

Setty, by the way, in his last year, deserves credit for being pretty darn skilled. He improved a ton over his time here, in particular his senior year.

Wasn't a slight on Setty ... but no one ever confused him for 1st team All MAC guy.

What's really interesting about those blow out numbers: NIU with just 1 would not be confused with a good team anywhere along that timeline.

Toledo, UB, Akron, after that would have been considered to be in the top of the conference during that time. Kent won it last year, and WMU won the west, and they aren't far off from where Ohio is, both now, and during those years.

As a current comparison, since the "new" Big East was formed, Villanova has beaten Xavier by 23 points in games played head to head in Philly. I don't think we characterize X as a bad basketball team, or as having a bad coach (even if I don't like him).

I didn't classify Ohio as a "bad basketball" team ... nor would I.

I was just pointing some of the inconsistencies with the program the last 4 years.

Ohio has four 20+ point losses ... only one less than Miami (which, I believe, we would all classify as a bad basketball program). Ohio is closer to Miami in terms of this stat than Akron/Buffalo, the two flagship programs the last four years. I think a lot of us would like to consider Ohio part of that group, especially considering the money Ohio spends. Akron and Buffalo have COMBINED for only three 20+ point losses during that same time span.

***I'm reluctant to put WMU in that category because they've been really up-and-down as a program the last four years. Ball State was more surprising that they've seen such blowouts.

And with Ohio's four 20+ point losses ... they also have four such wins. In comparison, Akron and Buffalo have nine (UB 6, Akron 3) ... Toledo stunningly has seven 20+ point wins to go with only two 20+ point losses.

Again ... not saying Ohio is a bad program. But it's been all over the place with 20 point wins ... 20 point losses .... MAC wins on the road ... MAC losses at home. I would just think that four years in, there would be a little more consistency and a solid foundation laid with Saul. I know injuries have derailed most of those plans. But I would think a solid foundation in place would be enough that a 20+ point blowout against a team like CMU would be happening anymore ... no matter who is injured.

And as far as Xavier/Villanova is concerned. Villanova OWNS them! 9-1 since they joined the Big East. (Full disclosure ... I'm a huge 'Nova fan ... my dad is an alum ... so I've been a Wildcat for life) And no, I wouldn't say Xavier is a bad team because 'Nova has destroyed them consistently. I'd just say 'Nova has their number.

Ohio's losses have come to CMU (x2), EMU, and Buffalo ... a little bit different than Villanova.

Let me add, BTC, that I played a pickup game tonight and had a bad case of Chad Gill Disease myself. I blew layups in each game -- made a few, but blew more than I made. Blew a potential game winning layup twice. My team won two out of three games, and I made several twos in a game of one and twos. So, I can relate to blowing layups and making more points with outside shots.

Further, I couldn't last a half minute in a college basketball game. I'm probably one of the worst, least talented guys ever to play the game, so I'm not trying to compare my abilities with Chad's. That would be ludicrous. Just ask Alan Swank. He used to play in our pick up league. Alan actually had a little talent, unlike me.

What's worse: Chad Gill-ing a layup or Corey Reed-ing a free throw?

Fun fact about Corey Reed, he never made a 3 point FG at Ohio. Career 0/15 from deep as a PG.

You want to talk about a staff not developing a player? He's the case study. A point guard, who could do it all on offense besides shoot as a frosh, and by the time he leaves he can't take a couple three's a game, and make 25% from three just to keep them honest? And can't make 65% at the line?

Or, did they restrict him from shooting?

I really like Jay Wright, and I like how they play. And I dislike X, so it makes me smile when they get thumped.

It's not terribly stunning to me that the losses have come to CMU - both at their barn. I'd be curious to know how their home record is vs the MAC East over the years.

Corey Reed made two clutch free throws to beat Miami in front of a packed house and complete a 16 point comeback. As far as I'm concerned, he's a 100% free throw shooter.
