I love when these upsets happen with the mid-major taking down ranked teams. Loved it when Ball State took down #8 Notre Dame. Can't believe it's been 5 years since OHIO shocked the world going to Sweet 16. I hope Saul can have his Ball State or Wofford moment....3 1/2 years in..patiently waiting. Also, have to play ranked teams to actually have a shot at beating ranked teams. This would help too. Have to play at least one of these games per year.

I'd argue they did play one of these games this year. Maryland just wasn't ranked. Maybe they will be by the end of the year, maybe not.

I will say, I love watching Smug Roy's team lose. I wish I'd have stayed up for the end of this one.

Wofford looked like a tournament team to me, strong guard play, killer instinct, bigs that can match up with the big boys, hit clutch free throws and excellent coaching down the stretch. It's early obviously but if they stay healthy they are on my radar for a sleeper NCAA upset.

My Wofford Grad cousin (former Soccer Goalie) is always a good follow when The Terriers are playing a "named " opponent. Not sure if his staid old congregation members appreciate the wry sense of humour but I certainly do....especially when they pull one of these memorable mid major upsets off....

Last night...nice status Cuz, wonder how many parishoners are UNC fans?

Take final exams .... check. Write final papers....check. Beat UNC....check!

wow, there is a lot of parity in college basketball.

Really? because one game of Wofford shows the parity of college hoops... Looking at actual numbers over time says......NO.

you look at the Loyola and Ball State upsets and it seems to show that mid majors can beat top 10 teams. The zone allows you to neutralize the McDonald's All-Americans athletic ability. If you have a great half court offense and can executes zone defenses effectively, you can beat the UNC's of the world. Can Ohio do it? Yes, we just have to believe in ourselves.

"can" beat....

I would love to be able to look at numbers. Some simple looks ....how about "power" conference teams records vs the other 20 plus conferences this year. My guess is that you could name the non Power winners off the top of your head...Balls, Wofford, etc and the record of Power schools vs the other 20 or so conferences would not show any sort of "parity". I may be totally wrong but competing vs the haves would not show Parity in the terms of the Power vs the field.

Of course the power conferences have a better record, hence the term power conferences. Good mid majors can beat power conference foes regularly like Gonzaga, Butler and Wichita State did. I remember when Ohio won the preseason NIT.

And MaGee impressed me not with his three ball shooting but the rest of his game, he had 27 and did not shoot the three too well. He was unfazed on that court and took it to the Tar Heels.

I have never seen three top ten teams lose to mid major teams in the same season, so that to me suggests parity. You can call me an idiot for believing that, but I find my thought process quite rational, especially when you factor in the recent tournament upsets. I get it though, you think I am attacking Ohio basketball because I say our time is coming. I should have said that we have reached our pinnacle. I should be mediocre. I wish I could look up to all of my elders, but I have elders that call people idiots because they don’t share the same opinion. I should respect the fact that you helped raise Bonzie and you have also collaboratied with all of the great basketball minds. I should kiss the ring, I am forcing you to act like an emotionally wounded child and call me names. I am sorry, sir. Darnik

I have a 94-year-old cousin who lives about five months of the year in Spartanburg, S.C., and the rest of the year in Ashland, Ohio. He took us on a tour of the Wofford campus last spring. His daughter teaches music at another local college -- Converse. Needless to say, the whole community there is thrilled with the results of this game. I love to see upsets like this.

There may be a little more parity if teams would play home and home series. It's a proven fact that the home field/court advantage is very real. Imagine if the Warriors or the Patriots only played on the road in their conference, but played the rest of their games at home. It's absurd.

All it would take is an NCAA mandate. Here is an example: for the next two years every MAC team plays every B10 team home and home. Half the conference is at home one year, and road the next year. After that it's another conference for two years. It can easily be done. With all the money at play it should be done.

I don’t really know about parity in college basketball, but when you take the top 5-15 players away from the top programs every year via the one and done and early departures, it has to make some difference.

New Mexico State beat #6 Miami, there have been 21 top ten upsets this year, the most in NCAA history.
