Limited minutes...will be interesting to see how that is handled. Jason's probably itching to stay on the floor.

And Maryland has some solid bigs. Chernovsky (sp.?) is 7 feet. Obi from Rice/Duke is 6-9 and they have a few other 6-9, 6-10 guys who rotate. Doug/Mickle/Carter will be tested. If we can get Cowan under control and Kirk and Butler don't make it a 1-on-1 game we can compete.

Maryland is hardly world-beaters.

The Bonnies beat them recently and they've played some other close games against unranked opponents.

Their bigs are obviously our biggest concern but that has been the case for us the entire season. Clemson had very athletic bigs and we managed to keep it very competitive. We just need to play our game and hit some shots.

It's tough without knowing just how active Carter will be, but his return is huge. We will need strong efforts from Mickle and Taylor. Excited to see what Carter can do.

Optimist ....we will NOT be favored ! Per Sagarin, we will be a 15 or 16 point underdog . If you look at Maryland's schedule and their wins, there is no way on paper that this will be close. Thankfully, games are still played on the court so hopefully we will play well and get a few bounces in our favor. It helps that we kept it close vs. Clemson.

Sorry, I've seen most of Maryland's games this year and completely disagree with your assessment. Their best players are Anthony Cowan, Kevin Huerter and Justin Jackson. Cowan is super quick, can drive and score or shoot from 3. Huerter is a better shooting, more athletic version of Gavin Block. Jackson is extremely athletic and an NBA prospect. Their problem is they are susceptible to turning the ball over. We can go in there and get the win but are most likely going to be double digit underdogs and we should be. I just don't like the match-ups for us. There isn't a universe where we would be favored in this game.

While the Sagarin ratings are a strong statistical and analytical evaluation tool, they don't accurately account for a key player returning to from injury.

Whether the best player on the team (arguably) is on the court is a huge variable that you can absolutely account for on paper, it just not easy.

Always love to read this on BA, but usually have to wait until Feb., Jan. at the earliest, before the first mention of no one wanting to face Ohio. I think Dec. 5 sets a new record for the earliest "no one will want to face Ohio" proclamation on BA. And I don't think it's a stretch to say BA has included some variation of this statement going into the MAC tourney for the previous 10 years.

Great job of not adding anything of value to this post.

I'll try again in a less subtle way.

I believe that some on here are naive or blinded with green-colored glasses or ignorant of the other teams/players in the MAC, to state that our Bobcats are always the team no one else wants to face.

My sincerest apologies if this doesn't add anything of value to this thread.

Must have had some really bad cafeteria food for lunch today up there in Licking County. :)

I agree wholeheartedly with your statements though. There are other teams in the MAC that are feared as much or more than we are every year. We don't have the monopoly on that.

Ohio 15' point underdogs. Pretty much what many expected (obviously NOT close to being favored???)

Would love to see Ohio competitive ... but could see this one unravelling in 2H.

1st true road game ... in a tough place to win/play

The good news is the Bobcats got Carter back. That gave Saul a few more options on the frontline. 9 man rotation would be very strong in MAC play. Maryland is tough matchup, but I liked what our bench gave us.

Can't afford to play stiff when you're already outmatched athletically. Not a strong enough effort.

No fire...no energy...flat as pancake. Hate to question effort, but this team didn't look too engaged or interested in playing hoops against a Big 10 team tonight.

Didn't watch the game - so from someone who did - did we pull our starters for the majority of the game just because it was so far out of hand?

Block with only 16 minutes and 3 points. I see he also had 4 fouls though - was he on the bench due to fouls?

Dartis with only 17 minutes, 3 shot attempts (all misses) and ZERO points. Ummm....WTF? We can't beat Eastern Michigan with that line, let alone Maryland.

Kirk also only played 20 minutes and had 4 turnovers.

Only Taylor and Laster played somewhat "normal" minutes.

Did we just go to the bench early and often? Saul trying different combinations to try and get a spark? Giving up and letting some of the guys who we've leaned on very heavily early this year get a break in a non-competitive game?

I didn't expect to win in the least. In fact seeing we lost by 25 wasn't a shock at all, but seems like a really odd box score. I know we wanted to limit Carter and just work on getting him some run, but we're going nowhere without Dartis and Block. Their lines tonight were pretty unacceptable - unless someone who watched can give me a reason for what went on.

Any help?

I hope that Dartis is not out for too many games. He only played about 17 minutes in the first half and sat out the second half. Anyone know any details on his injury? Apparently, he was not at full strength going into the game. Was he injured in practice and then tweaked it in the game? This team seems to have an injury bug. Is it time yet to start a thread about firing the strength coach? ;-)

Dartis hurt his foot the first minute of the second half and sat the rest of the game with an ice bag on his foot. Can't afford to have him out an extended period of time but it might not be a killer to have him out a game or two letting us get more minutes for Butler and Gollon.

Block was in foul trouble so sat a lot and after a while I think Saul decided to let the bench run with it.

Kirk did what Kirk does but it's not going to work against guys the size of Maryland's front line.

I thought Doug Taylor played pretty well considering what he was going up against and Laster was Laster which is a good thing.

But we've got to figure this out. We've got some of the guys running Saul Ball and a couple who aren't and ball movement is the casualty. We aren't going to beat anyone unless we get a lot of assists.

At the risk of bringing Lavar Truelove out of the woodwork, we need to get more minutes for Zach Butler. He sees the floor well and moves the ball.

No excuse for the ball not finding Jason Carter's hands on every possession.

That being said I said earlier in the week that I didn't like this match-up for us and we played right into their hands.

I'd like to know what could have happened in the 2nd half if the open 3 Gollon took that would have cut the lead to 9 would have gone down. It rimmed out, and in what seemed like a flash the 12 point deficit shot back up near 20.

How did Jason look in limited minutes? I'm looking at the stats and it seems they just wanted to get him a little run to get him loose, but nothing too outrageous. I would expect more on Sunday.
