Interesting take on the booster who takes huge deductions and gets great seats and other perks. I wonder if this whole arms race would go down the sewer if that were to happen.

The arms race may go on in perpetuity for college basketball, but football's days are numbered. Basketball with it's longer season makes access easier for fans via in game attendance and viewing on TV.

You have zero evidence to base this on.

Billy not sure what you mean by zero evidence. College football and college basketball are my two most favorite sports, college football and football in trouble is staring at serious trouble down the road. I don't like it but facts are facts. I believe we have been through this before, but in case you don't believe me here are some sobering links.

One of them talks about the free fall of youth football in the Chicago area. I see it with my own sons in the Columbus area. Another link talks about the economics of football decline and another talks about football following the boxing model where once kids of all ages and economic classes participated. How many kids box now in a local gym?

Billy I am boxing fan and it ain't going anywhere either, but it is nowhere near what it once was. My kids middle school doesn't even have football anymore. A few years ago, they were the team to beat. The school's enrollment numbers are the same and believe they are far from being alone.

Just read those Chicago papers and see what has occurred in only the last five years. I wish it weren't so, but the numbers don't lie. If you don't believe me or the articles I posted, ask any youth football coach. Football like boxing will always be around, but like boxing there soon will come a day when people will say; remember when....

It's dying in my county here in the DC area. Walt Whitman High School, a school near me with an enrollment of just under 1,500 had 30 kids try out for the football team this year. Just a couple of years ago they had nearly 100 tryout. Participation in soccer and lacrosse are way up here. Parents just aren't letting their kids play the sport anymore. When I was a kid every kid played football in the Fall. I have three boys and I only know of one of their friends that has any interest in playing football in high school. My youngest plays flag football and they have won the league in three of the last four seasons and are odds on favorites to do it again this year. Not one of the kids is going to play in high school. Obviously there are a number of factors that play into that, specialization of sports now being one, but 20 years ago I'm guessing every single one of them would have it on their radar. Now one county over participation is still pretty high but apparently here there has been some discussion about whether we should go to 8 man football.

Correction, Whitman has just under 2,000 kids.

I was always the biggest kid in grade school but my mother would not let me play football. I thank her all the time!
