With the injuries having mounted in the front court, logic dictates the time has arrived to see if Ellis Dozier has game. Maybe he'll surprise us, as well as the coaching staff. Hope so. Hoping that meaningful minutes and a little bit of success will lead to confidence gain needed to play on this level--assuming you have a skill set that transfers from high school. If he can't get off the bench now, with Jason Carter limping around and the two freshman front court players still out for a while, that's a very, very bad sign.

Bobcats apparently hung on for an 8 point win.

Bama A&M is the second to worst D-1 team out of 351 per TeamRankings.com iirc

Expect a long disappointing season. Sorry to be so blunt.

When you have three front court players out and a front court player who is in his third year in the program can't get off the bench, I don't think I need to finish the statement....

based on last year's stats . . . this year they're probably at least 340! ;-)

Yep, no better way to judge a team than on their first game without their best player with everyone on the roster adjusting to a new role this year. I mean surely everyone knew Kent State was doomed last year when they opened up the year barely hanging on to beat a bad Cleveland State team. And raise your hand when you knew that Akron was in for a long year when they lost to an even worse Youngstown State team to open last season. Yep, no reason to watch the rest of the season.

It has to be a mental/confidence thing for him, because he's reportedly very athletic.

When I was in school during the early 1970s, there was a player on the Walter Luckett-led teams who could rise up above the fray and stay there seemingly forever; who could take a dime off the top of the backboard; and who could throw the opposition's shots into the third row of seats. The late Tommy Hester also was very popular among his teammates. Yet as badly as those teams needed quality post players, the 6-6 Hester never consistently found his way onto the court.

I remember Tommy Hester----massive leaping ability.

Gary, didn't Tom have some really nasty disease that kept him out for a year and really hurt his progress?

I believe that Tom Hester was diagnosed with Histoplasmosis when he was a freshman or soph. This fairly rare condition is a disease of the lungs caused by some type of fungus found in certain soil types. This condition seriously affected his development as a player. I wonder if this disease had anything to do with Tom passing away at such a young age? He was a great young man who always had a smile on his face, regardless of how things were going.

Can't it also be related to bat dung?

Most people recover, often without diagnosis or treatment. Yes, bat dung can be a vector. For more detail look here: https://www.cdc.gov/fungal/diseases/histoplasmosis/index....

Doug is going to get run ragged and while he's in much better shape, he's not in 40 minutes per game shape!

I haven't read any report on this. I hope Kevin is OK. He was very active Thursday and Friday.

I re-watched the game to see what started the bit of infighting near the end of the half (wasn't even shown on TV looks like). But I did notice probably 4 or so possessions before Mickle got hurt, while on defense, he made a move and then winced and you could tell something happened to the knee/leg area. But he continued to play on. I am guessing he didn't think it was a big deal either, because he seemed to keep playing at full speed until the leg/knee gave up. Get well soon KM.
