And there goes the civility

Why use that term and try to incite problems?

No one here is hating. Just a few really care. Most don't give a shit and those that do are not hating....

Your report was fine, there was no need to imply folks who have an opinion or who have commented as "haters". Not caring is not hating but being contrarian and pressing buttons seems to be just trying to gain some attention and stir the pot

How about checking the origin of the vernacular

https://www.quora.com/When-and-where-did-the-Hater-mental...

https://www.npr.org/2011/12/30/144384533/haters-are-going...

https://www.thedailybeast.com/why-we-should-hate-haters-g...

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/youyoung-lee/over-it-its-t...

From the last article

"Calling someone a “hater” has became fashionable, a trend word for the vain and the insecure. .... “No haters” has become a convenient substitute for “no criticism” — which is only one step from “no thought”"

The word hater has served it's usefulness and is losing it's effect. Unlike the the saying "don't be a dick" which everyone totally gets.

So is that a shot at Saul? The guy goes from #1 to back-bencher and says he's a better player overall?

why would that be a shot at Saul? UM has a lot of staff to break down game and individual skills, weight coaches and weight room are state of the art with really skilled strength coaches, Nutrition stations and nutritional education are finestkind. There is unlimited resources and the ability to get in a practice gym 24/7. Coach has been at it many more years than Saul and has coached up a bunch of pros. Why would you imply that is a shot at Saul rather than thinking "yep, there is a whole bunch of wisdom, experience and resource available there that we do not have here"

Exactly right. If you can't come up with a good argument for your side of a debate just call your opponent a "hater" and in the minds of you and your cohort you've won the day. However, in reality, you've engaged in nothing but sophistry and the only thing you've accomplished is to stifle an honest exchange of ideas.

From the article:

>>
The little things inside the little things. Everything had to be perfect.

"Passing with spin, catching the ball on two feet, different pivots. And it has to be that way every single time," Simmons said. "I hadn't heard coaches stress stuff like that in a long time."
>>

He is insinuating our current staff didn't stress fundamentals. Right or wrong. I would call this a slight shot at Saul.

Looking all the way back on page 1, there are 17% of voters (13 people) who are actively rooting against him, so there are some "haters" here.

Why someone would actively root against a 22-year-old student who wanted to make himself better by going to a good grad school and playing for a Big Ten Champion/Sweet 16 team, I don't know.

I don't like Michigan. I don't like it when good players (or coaches) leave Ohio U. But I respect their decision and, of course, wish them well in future endeavors. We all may have made decisions to leave things we've committed to. It happens.

To actively root against a 22-year-old you don't even know for transferring seems rather immature.

First off, we are Ohio not Ohio U. This is bobcatattack.com everyone knows who you are talking about if you just say Ohio.

Personally, I hold nothing against Simmons for transferring. If the player makes the decision to move up instead of a coach leading the poaching effort then I am fine with it, but I really don't see how this makes him better. Maybe if he was actually playing, but he's not. He played 3 minutes in their last win.

BUt he is going to practice and doing skill and development workouts in addition to having coach insist on daily performance in his habits, techniques and execution. That alone is enough to make you better. Set the bar high and never let up down to the last walk on that shows up everyday. He probably is a better ball player just by osmosis and repetition.

In your opinion, how much will his lack of minutes impact his professional prospects overseas? So, like If Tommy had transferred to a bigger program and had drastically fewer minutes and stats, would that have hurt him with overseas money/contracts vs. staying here and being a prolific shooter in the MAC?

No, I suspect he's actually Vern Alden! ;-) To Vern the Fern, as we sometimes called him, such mistakes were firing offenses.

The only real effect will be his first job I would think. His play over there will dictate the rest.

I think that is pretty accurate. Your first job really depends on your agent and the connections he has.... I think the agent Tommy had works with a lot of UM guys IIRC.

As i think about this and the timeline....this is where I think the NCAA has to hold the next school responsible for finishing the degree the same way they monitor the APR. Doing that in and of itself may stem the tide of the grad transfers. Take away the schollies the same way they do with incomplete undergrad degrees.

Again, who exactly is "hating"? Some have expressed displeasure and some have said things like, "he's dead to me." But, I don't think anyone one here has expressed hatred for him.

Thanks for the lecture. I was asking a question, not implying anything.

I had the same initial question as well. But the poll itself shows that 17% (13 people) want to actively root against Simmons. We can debate the semantics of "hating", but in this context, I think the poll results show a disturbing number of people who voted that they do not want him to do well, which could be categorized as "hating".

The other choices were to root for him or to be indifferent about it.

Yet 13 people wanted failure for a former Bobcat (they would hate for him to have success).

I think it was Tom who brought up the APR idea. Here's a link to how that works.

By your standard, Ohio fans should've been cheering for Grunkemeyer.

Get out of here with that weak stuff and learn the difference between actually hating someone and the fantasyland that is sports.

No one is hoping Jaaron Simmons doesn't land a great job out of college. They are hoping he doesn't win a national championship all because he decided there's a better place to be than Ohio University.

I am not Jaaron Simmons' parent. I have no moral obligation to root for him, just like I don't actively root for my ex-girlfriends to marry people more handsome than me. They can marry. They just can't be more handsome.

I have nothing against Mr.Simmons as a person.

I am one of the people who hoped that, from a basketball perspective,he didn't find success at Michigan.

As I posted before,I felt he "abandoned" O.U.,so why would I wish him any kind of success on the court someplace else ?

It is funny how all the comments here seem to be about whether his transfer was a positive or negative when it comes to basketball.

I thought the primary reason he transfered to Michigan was to pursue his Masters.

If there are any true Simmons haters out there here's a little perspective:

Name one PG you'd rather have lead Ohio in the last 20 years not named DJ Cooper. The argument would come down to Jaaron and Jeremy Fears. Fears left his team midseason, remember.

From what I've read,he left Houston after his freshman year "for personal reasons".
That could mean a lot of things, including not wanting to be so far from home.

He was an undergrad transfer,so he had to sit a year.

If,when he transferred to Michigan,he had to sit out a year,I would have looked at his leaving as any other transfer into or out of our program.

Same thing,if he was truly interested in Grad school,no hard feelings.
Academics comes first.

My problem is his using the Grad Transfer as a loophole.
I call it a loophole, because I don't anyone believes he did it for anything other then basketball.
