AT one time the Worthington summer League was the shit! Some of the biggest names used to come in to play. Used to love watching Trent dominate the competition in the post.

Lot of MAC players used to play in that - plus a lot of now P5 players - Was some great off season stuff

Watched the first half of their game on ESPN last night against Purdue. Got yanked from the game immediately after he got stripped going to the hoop. The camera followed him to the bench where Beilein chewed him out pretty good. I feel bad for the kid, he does not look happy. But apparently he wasn't happy here either.

I don't think it was a matter of "not being happy" here.

I would say it's a simple case of ego ... or people in his ear that gave him bad advice.

He thought he was "bigger" than Ohio and that he needed to go the B1G .... when in reality, he could have stayed at Ohio ... played 32+ minutes a night, averaged 20ppg, 8 assists .... and been an All-MAC performer and player of the candidate.

That would have MORE than enough got him an invite to the combine and other pre-draft stuff so he could chase he NBA dreams.

Instead poor, tiny little Ohio wasn't good enough for him ... so he needed to leave for the B1G where he is getting a reality check on where his skillset is.

I think it's obvious now he is bound for a career in Europe or the G-League at best. No shame in going overseas and making bank for 5-10 years. We'll see if his ego allows for that.

I thought he transferred to pursue a Masters Degree in a field of study that was not offered at his current university. How could I have been so misinformed?

+1 That's exactly what it is, and I fully understand the emotion. It's part of the human condition. Was it human nature you were trying to change? ;-)

I think that there just was no closure to this situation. Our last memory of Jaaron was him dribbling out the clock in a game we should have won. We also haven't been a victim of a grad transfer who was All-MAC before so that is new. And finally, it is a very interesting twist that he went from 16 ppg, 7 apg and 2 spg to a whole bunch of DNPs for a school that many of us hate. He never told the fans he appreciated us and that he owed Ohio University a lot for getting him to this point. Instead he shopped himself around and just left. Now he's Michigan's version of Ellis Dozier, which is no offense to Ellis, but he's now a guy who barely plays who is taking up a scholarship that Beilein probably wishes he would have used on a freshman.

I am fascinated by it but I am also EXTREMELY glad to have Teyvion, who we would not have gotten if Jaaron stayed. If it was just Butler running the team I would be much more discouraged but if Kirk is here for four years he will be First Team All-MAC three straight years starting next year.

Watched the game. Never took the towel from around his neck. But hey at least he's going to have that Master's Degree to fall back on.

oh shucky duckies, can't we just talk Saul's new hair gel? DO we have to follow an athlete that just left our program. I am not being a hypocrite by saying TOS to MSU or JC sucks. Knock it off guys, Jaaron gave me an imaginary fist bump and I liked it.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

He thought he was good, maybe great. As Larry David might say, he took a risk. A young man wanted to play at a higher level and wanted more for himself. It didn't work out. Maybe he'll be a better person for the experience.

Funny that his fellow Dayton running mate Alstork took his grad transfer year at Illinois for Underwood and is seeing starters minutes. After starting at Balls Alstork left for home and then ended at Wright. Both are now B10 transfers with decidedly different paths. Both can end up overseas with lucrative deals but I think Alstork will have a longer and better career over there.

I sort of wonder if Michigan pursuing him was more a move to be sure he didn't go to a rival in the Big Ten than actually needing him.

If they thought he was that good to warrant that type of action, they'd be playing him more. He was an insurance policy.

Michigan went after Simmons because they were not happy with the progress that Simpson had made, and they were afraid that they did not have a point guard that they could win with. Simpson has improved and won the job with his improvement coupled with the struggles that Simmons has had adapting to Michigan's style of play. Jaaron's game was built around him having the ball in his hands 75% of the time or more every possession. Michigan does not play that style of basketball. Whoever was advising Jaaron to choose Michigan over other options he was considering, did not have a high enough basketball I.Q. to understand that he would have a very difficult time learning a new way of playing at this point in his basketball career. Bad decision by Jaaron, and bad advice from whomever was in his ear.

Which also makes you wonder, why did Michigan want him if he didn't fit their style?

I believe I've already made that clear.

(In Ray Liotta's voice) It was revenge for DJ "Billy Batts" Cooper, and a lot of other things. And there was nothing we could do about it. He was a made (the NCAA tournament) guy and Simmons wasn't. And we have to sit still and take it.

This is the correct analysis. Like many great athletes, Simmons had huge self-confidence and believed he could figure it out and excel in any system. He never really got a chance because he was only there as a cheap insurance policy. All things being equal, Michigan is going to give playing time to kids who will be there next year over a one-year rental.

100%cat, Michigan was willing to assume that Jaaron would be able to adjust and adapt to what they would be doing. They have little invested and it was worth the risk to their staff. They are probably as dissapointed in how things have turned out as anyone. The situation was a slight bump in the road for Michigan but a major setback for Bobcats.

He's only DNP'd in 8 games, so no chance. On top of those 8 DNP's, he has 12 games with single digit minutes. 6 times he has logged 10+ minutes.
