Rick Bozich just wrote a scathing column in Basketball Times about recruiting under Stansbury at WKU.

I was trying to find reference to this somewhere, but wasn't successful. Would you mind summarizing what Rick had to say? (I can imagine, but I'd rather know)

Couldn't access the Basketball Times article but here's one he wrote last month.

Something tells me this kid is going to have trouble academically. Maybe WKU has designed a special "NBA Preparation" major for him in Specialized Studies! ;-)

Why would he struggle academically? He qualified.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

Reading in between the lines, maybe OCF is suggesting he'll have trouble due to lack of interest in academics?

This kid's story keeps taking twists and turns. Now it sounds like no college, one year in Europe/Australia, and off to the draft.

Am I the only one who thinks unless the NBA changes its tune, that this is going to become more normal?

People thought that with Brandon Jennings nearly 10 years ago and it really hasn't happened. I would think that until we see an NBA star go this route, or multiple stars, I doubt it becomes the "norm."

I'm more talking about an 18-19 year old skipping college to go get that 1-2 years overseas and then getting drafted by the NBA. No NBA star is going to Europe because of the dollars involved in the NBA.

I know, that's what I mean. If there's an example like "Hey look, KD went to China for a year before entering the draft" that might influence more kids to do it. There have been a few kids who skipped college to go overseas, then enter the draft, and they have not (yet) turned out to be stars at the NBA level.

If he is dead set on the NBA after the season, he only has to focus on the first semester. He could pretty much neglect second semester altogether. It's what Ben Simmons did.

Yes, from what I've seen he seems to have a very cavalier attitude toward academics. Viewed from this distance, I could be wrong, but that's my impression.

I would have to think that his route to the NBA draft might not be the best look for him. I'm sure if he can play, and he impresses enough at workouts, he might still get drafted high. I'd have to think this spectacle of here-gone-here-gone and no NCAA experience is costing him $$$, though.

I wouldn't go anywhere near this kid in the draft unless I have the last pick of the second round. While I believe in second chances and the ability of a person to improve themselves I cannot help but think that the way he has handled this situation shows his character and his mentality towards responsibility. If he averages more than 3 points per game in his career I will be shocked.

C'mon - the wasted effort bad decision making is the coach/staff. Shooting for the sky - or shooting blindly? I don't see SP and staff "wasting" time on some we have lost - but also not just plain wasting their time......
