Here's what we know:

Home:
Western Kentucky
Iona
Northwestern Ohio?

Away:
Marshall

Neutral:
3 games at Charleston Classic. Field includes Clemson, Auburn, Dayton, Temple, Hofstra, Indiana State, and Old Dominion

Also, Purdue released their non-conference schedule and we are not on it.

Unless I'm mistaken, I think you can also add Marshall to that home game list. The Cats played at Marshall this past season.

EDIT: Also, I can't recall, but was the Milwaukee game a one for one? If so, then at Milwaukee should be on there.

Ahh, would love to spend a long weekend in Charleston for that set of games! I would think Dayton or Temple are the early favorites? Is Clemson hosting?

Dayton was gutted by graduation ... so not sure how good they'll be this early in season (new coach as well)

Clemson wouldn't technically be the host....there really isn't a host. It's a neutral site event. College of Charleston sometimes takes part (they did in 2016) but technically there is no host. Just like Maui Classic or Battle 4 Atlantis

By the luck of the draw I'm hoping Ohio gets Temple in the first round, then gets Clemson/Dayton in the next two rounds if all goes well. But I'm pretty excited about any of the matchups that might happen. Even Hofstra and Old Dominion will be quality games.

Not to be that guy, but we're talking non-conference for 2017-18, not 2016-17, right?

^eff.

I was under the impression that Milwaukee was a buy game. And we hosted Marshall in 2015, so I think that series is done for now.

I think we'd all take another shot at 2016-2017 to see if it didn't turn out differently.

Maybe put an extra Dr. Scholl's in Tony's shoe.

Let Jaaron control the music in the Convo during games and an extra PB&J after practices.

Tell John Groce to send a Christmas card to the folks at the University of Dayton.

I don't know.

Our non-conference schedules always confuse me and stuff.

Why is it we never schedule Duke, Kentucky, UNC, Kansas, UCLA (long drive), or even OSU in the Convo?

Duh,....who hasn't heard of them? They have a NASCAR program and their own racetrack!!! I mean who wouldn't want to be involved in this in college:

They are a NAIA program. My daughter's elementary school gym is bigger than the one they play in. Any high school gym in the area is better than UNOH.

God, what next? Schedule junior colleges and branch campuses?

They're all over the racing world, not just NASCAR. They're heavily entrenched in the dirt racing world as well.

It's amazing to me that we can't do better than northwestern Ohio. Some 350+ D-1 teams and we can't get one of them to schedule us instead of that team. Just stay home and scrimmage amongst ourselves. Yikes!

UNOH is probably not the worst team Ohio has played in recent years. They were 18-13 last year. Ohio has played worse low-division teams in the past.

This gets discussed every year when Ohio plays these kinds of teams, but I think the idea is that playing a team like this does not affect RPI or other ratings. It's probably extremely inexpensive to have them come play. I'm sure Ohio could schedule some other low-major Division I team but those teams would cost more and affect ratings. Most mid-major programs have a game (or several) like this on the schedule. Even high-major teams do it sometimes.

As an example, Dayton did it when Ohio couldn't schedule with them during our team's finals week. Archie said effectively the same thing. If you can't get a good game that you want, you might be best served to play a team that has no bearing on your RPI.

I believe that they just recently started an athletic program at this school not long ago. My step-brother graduated from there around 2008 or 2009 and I'm pretty sure he said they didn't have sports.

Anywhoodles, his degree focused on larger engines and machinery and he works for Norfolk Southern. It's a good school and will get you places.

UNOH just recently in the last ten years or so started up their athletic programs. They have mens and womens basketball, soccer, mens baseball and womens softball. The softball field is great. It would be the envy of our own softball team.
Up until twenty to thirty years ago, UNOH was known as Northwest Business College. They had an athletic department in the 1970s and 1980s but ended up dropping all sports in the 1990s.
UNOH has been on a growth and expansion phase for the last ten years. They use to have all of their classes in one building back in the 1970s, now they have a huge educational and athletic complex on the west side of Lima. The only thing that is lacking is a respectable indoor arena or gym for a school this size. About 3000-4000 students attend, not bad considering not too long ago it was only a few hundred.

If we're going to schedule games against opponents just for the sake that they're either cheap or make us money and they have no bearing on our RPI, then shoot let's get the Globetrotters on the phone STAT.

I mean we can be the next Washington Generals now that they axed that contract right?

Wouldn't affect our RPI at all, and as an added bonus we'd MAKE money from the game. Win-win based on those criteria.

We go through this SAME argument every year when the schedule starts to come out. Last year Urbana, now NW Ohio this year.

Some schools like EMU and NIU have been scheduling three or four games a season like this. We should count ourselves lucky it's only one game for Ohio.

Shouldn't we be better than EMU & NIU in hoops?

Why lower ourselves to their standards in hoops as it being "okay" if we don't elevate our expectations to be like NIU & Toledo in football and schedule the likes of USC, Michigan State, etc?

If Ohio is THE elite program (football & basketball) in the MAC, we shouldn't be following anyone else's lead....we should be leading the way. Right?

I have no problem with Urbana, Marietta or NW Ohio as an exhibition. But to play them as a regular season game is kind of silly. Even if other (bottom-feeding) MAC programs do it.

You can argue RPI all you want ... but when was the last time Ohio actually put together a schedule that had any prayer of earning an at-large bid? 2012-13? If you're going to use RPI as a reasoning, then put together a schedule that shows you want to be part of the at-large conversation (assuming you get the wins)
