I enjoyed reading this thread on the football board, figured it'd be worth starting on the hoops board.

A lot come to mind, but if I had to pick one play it's Tommy Freeman 3-point against Miami:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6ToCRgH8fg
The game did not carry much significance for the league standings but the build-up to that game for the rivalry was huge. The final 2-3 minutes (not even counting the final 3) were also one of the most exciting basketball games I've ever seen with a lot of lead changes and relatively few stoppages in play.
I was lucky enough to be a student at this point. After the shot fell, I jumped very high into the air. I remember my legs moving forward and a very slow-motion glance to my left and from the corner of my eye I was could see/feel a wall of students reassuring me I wasn't the only one rushing the court. Pure adrenaline.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Well, I've not been in Athens but for about 5 years so my set of plays to choose from is much smaller than many of yours I'm sure. But anyway, with just a few seconds to go, Tone inbound lobs it cross court to Mo, who scores the winning dunk vs Buffalo.

Runner up is actually not correct for the thread cuz I saw it on TV...but it's so good it's worth the mention. I don't recall the opponent, but it was early last season. Block brings the ball up court to the wing, fakes a handoff to Jordy which confuses the only two opponents back for defense. Block gingerly walks up to the basket, completely uncontested, for the lay in.

TO, yes I remember that one, and it was a great win and a great play. One of my favorites in "modern times," for sure. Probably, my all-time favorite was the final play in OHIO's first ever win over the Evil Empire. The game was in St. John's arena. I don't recall which player got the layup, but with less than a minute to go OHIO has the ball under its own basket. The game is tied 80-80. Snyder calls a TO. Out of the TO, OHIO works some kind of a weave, and at the end of the weave, all of the OHIO players, save the guy with the ball, move toward the sidelines, drawing their men with them, the guy with the ball goes right down the center for an uncontested layup. It was kind of like the parting of the Red Sea. OHIO wins!

I just looked up and found the box score of the game:
http://tinyurl.com/y98cvqqf

I was there with my father and my good friend, and now retired judge, Alan Goldsberry. I had forgotten until I looked this up, that the game was played on my father's birthday -- December 13. What a birthday present that was! ;-) I remember our happy ride back to Athens, and Alan kept saying, "Miracle Worker" in reference to Coach Snyder and his brilliant coaching and game winning play.

This one is easy.

Final seconds of overtime when O.U. won the preseason N.I.T.

First time I saw the Bobcats in person since I left Athens in the mid 70's.

Fist time my wife ever saw the bobcats and the 110 in person.

Kinda cheesy, but Leon Williams' 3-pointer versus George Mason in the Bracketbuster game in the Convo was pretty memorable.

For as much as I honestly did not like him his last two years here, Stevie Taylor's 3 to beat Kent after Cooper fouled out was pretty great in person.

There are so many.... And this has a heavy "recency bias".... How about:

1. Leon Williams tip in against Buffalo to win MACC in the epic comeback
2. Armon's dunk (with bench going crazy) against Akron in that absolutely crazy MACC.
3. Devaughn's poster dunk (and front page USA Today pic) against Georgetown. (OK, I cheated. I didn't see this in person -- but I don't care. I'm putting it on the list.)
4. Gary Trent. Dude was insane. Too many to count. Loved when he would get an offensive rebound on a free throw and then dunk it. Seemed like he did this once per game.
5. Brandon Hunter late three pointer in the Dean Dome in the win against UNC. Also him waiving everyone off and bringing the ball up the court the last 2 minutes after our PGs were melting down a bit.

Not plays, but walking out of an uptown establishment and watching QB Boo Jackson lead the rollicking student celebration of the sweet 16 win on court street. And, anytime Patrick Tufua joined the Ozone. And Charlie Coles pretending to sit down at the behest of the Ozone and then not doing so. And Bobcat Dragon in the Ozone....

Ah... good times....

Thanks to The Optimist for starting this. There's no way in the world I can name just one.

Off the cuff, my favorites in no particular order:

-As others mentioned, the Stevie Taylor 3 to be Kent.
-The Armon Bassett dunk the put the exclamation point on the 2010 MAC Title.
-The alley oop dunk from Cooper to Washington vs G-town (oh my!)
-The no look, behind the back pass from Cooper to Offut vs Marshall in 2012-2013. The game that he had, what, 18-19 assists in?
-The classic Geno dribbles out the ball vs Miami moment. Pretty sure that was my first game in The Convo.
-Tommy's 3 versus Miami, as previously mentioned.
-Oddly perhaps, Bean Willis' 10th three in what was an otherwise tough season. I've never seen anyone make ten treys in a game other than him on that day.
-Mo N'Dour's game winning, buzzer beating dunk that same season. Another thing I've never seen before or since.
-The Mycal Green three vs Florida in 2005 in Nashville.
-I'm thinking there was one game in The Convo where Stonerook had 20 boards, but I'm not sure when or against whom.

Since, I've already contributed to this thread, I won't add another; however, I will encourage fansince49 to tell us about the OHIO-KSU come-from-behind overtime thriller of 1961.

Easy for me: Wednesday night game at BGSU, sophomore Gary Trent is seemingly trapped along the baseline on the right side of the basket. He somehow elevates and crosses over beneath the left side of the basket for one of the most powerful dunks I have ever seen. The crowd was stunned. We blew out the Falcons that night.

The 3 to tie it is my vote. I loved how the partisan crowd all became Ohio underdog fans (think of the fan seating as 8 different pie slices -- 6 of those slices were indifferent until the game was tied, then a 7/8 section standing ovation for the Bobcats with 2 minutes to go)

Oh, hmm...

-Terren Harbut dunking on two Marshall players at once in first round of the 2005 MAC Tourney. I think that game was the first college basketball game broadcasted on ESPNU.
-Bubba Walther pull up three off a crazy loose ball fast break late in the George Mason game. The loudest moment I can remember in the Convo.
-Armon's buzzer beater at IUPUI. Yep, drove up on a December weeknight and watched it with maybe 1,000 others in the Pacers' arena. That was a good payoff.

Favorite non-Bobcat play. That little guy from Lamar who alley-ooped all over Ricardo. Also saw Reggie get dunked on pretty good at Ball State.

In person? Williams tip-in. no contest. One play that changed the fortunes of the season, in overtime, at the buzzer, after already coming back from 19 down in an emotionally draining game, 11 LOOOOOONG years after our previous NCAA appearance.

Not even close.

"West Side Story".....

Basketball plays in the Convo:

Bobcats - Geno to trailing Trent on fast break off the backboard assist then thunderous dunk

Non-Bobcat - Ron Harper steal and solo fast break 360 dunk

A little off the beaten path but any number of small plays in the first OT of the famous Ohio defeat of DePaul, Valentine's Day 1983, which got us into the 2OT where we won. Sometimes those little plays are forgotten, but they mean everything in the end.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with RSBobcat with regard to plays against us we would rather not remember; Ron Harper slam dunk against us on a Wednesday night game in 1986? Talk about a near sellout on a week night. We lost and the 2nd half energy never matched the first, but the electricity in the air during the first half that night was amazing. Ah if Coach Nee had only stayed, the pieces were in place for an amazing run. Alas it didn't happen, and we are left with his teaser quote about wondering if he could have won a national championship in Athens, had he stayed.

I saw the following live. Tough to pick a favorite.
-Leon Williams' tip-in to win MAC
-Dave Jamerson's record-setting day (1st college sporting event for me and also the day I decided I was going to attend OU)
-Tommy Freeman buzzer beater vs. Fiami.
-Walt Offett's and-one vs. UNC in St. Louis. Even though he missed the FT, that play was maybe the most exciting considering the moment.
-N'Dour's dunk at the buzzer to win
-Too many Trent dunk to pick out just one
-Same for DJ long 3s and spectacular assists

My Top 5 moments as a Bobcat:

OU hoops win at OSU my Senior year
Sweet 16 trip to St. Louis
MAC Hoops comeback win vs. Buffalo with Leon's tip-in
Byrum's pick 6 vs. Pitt
Football win at Penn St.

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking. I remember when he tied it and blew the roof off that place.

I love to dust this one off from the Walter Luckett era:

In the early '70s Ohio trailed Toledo by 17 before a packed house at the Convo with about 17 minutes left (this was before the three-pt shot). Ohio fought back and slowly cut into the lead. The crowd kept getting louder and louder. Finally we trailed by one with about ten seconds to play. Everyone assumed that Luckett would take the last shot, and Ohio worked the ball around to him at the top of the key with about five seconds left. He went up for a jumper and all five Toledo players collapsed on him. He calmly passed it to Dave Ball, who was all alone underneath for a bunny with two seconds to go. The entire place erupted. Someone deflected the inbound and there was a scramble for the loose ball as the clock ran out. Greatest comeback I ever saw.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

Not really a play but the post game celebration all the way up to Court Street after the DePaul Game in 1983 was probably my favorite basketball moment. I think it was either a Monday or a Tuesday and I was very proud of myself that I made my 10:00 class the next morning.

OU Van I do believe it was a Monday night. I remember how fun Court Street was after the game. I too made it to Tuesday morning classes and noticed there were a few empty seats. Sadly, some students were wondering what all the commotion was on Court Street the previous night. It took a while for bobcat basketball to go from under the radar buzz to a full blown happening.

The 1994 MAC tournament in the Convention Center in Columbus. Gary Trent runs down the right side and goes up for an alley-oop. The pass is a little behind him, but with one hand he reaches back, catches the ball, and rocks the rim with a one-handed slam.

The place went NUTS! For those of you too young to have seen Trent play at OHIO, it was nothing short of watching a man play against children.

It's been mentioned on here but four words, said by Derek Scott:

"Williams tips it in!"

That was just so satisfying for me as I never saw a championship of any kind in hoops or football as a student but was more than glad to see it happen the year after I graduated!
