Her performance here was mixed. I wish her well, but frankly, she'll have a difficult time seeing the court there.

Good riddance. Don't let the door hit you in the way out. She and Jarron are cut from the same cloth. If they don't want to be here fine. We honored OUr commitment to them but this generation of athlete are selfish and have no respect for the institution of a scholarship and the commitment the university and fans make to them.

That was basically the message for Jarron. So it must apply here as well.

I love Ohio University and Athens as much as anyone, but I've grown tired of "good riddance" and "selfish" drumbeat. Students, including non-student athletes, transfer to other schools for all sorts of personal reasons. Student Athletes seem to be the only ones called "selfish" when they make a decision they think is best for them.

As a fan, was I sad to hear that Jaaron was moving on from OU? Sure. But I enjoyed watching him play in a bobcat uniform, and I wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.

Good lord, so maybe she wanted to go elsewhere. It happens, get over it. I hope she does well in Wisconsin.

After reading the post above and The Post's opinion in an article, I would say good riddance to Athens if I got treated like that.

I think like 3 posters out of 30 had this sentiment. The fact that you are presenting it as if it was the consensus is straight up fake news.

There is nothing wrong with most people's reaction to this and Jaaron's transfer news. Disappointed, but understanding.

The reaction to Simmons was more than a few declaring him "dead to me" a sense of unfair abandonment, a sense he owed OHio brcause we took him on and gave him the reigns. I'm not saying it was universal but it was prevalent. This towards a guy that came here and got his diploma. But when a role player transfers there is not a peep. My intent was to show that fans feel more victimized and wronged when it is a star. When in reality it is simply an individual making a personal decision that is right for them.

But a role player is easy to sympathize with. You can understand someone wanting to get a bigger role or more playing time. It's much harder to understand or sympathize with someone just wanting to do the same thing he or she was doing here but at a different school. I've used this analogy before but it's like your college girlfriend breaking up with you. After a while you understand but that doesn't mean you have to like it. Jaaron essentially just walked up to us and said "It's not you. It's me." So while I understand Jaaron looking out for himself you'll have to excuse me when I say that I will think more fondly of Stevie Taylor or Asown Sayles than I will of Jaaron Simmons. Stevie and Asown are Bobcats for life. Jaaron turned himself into a rental.

Whatever happened to the phrase "once a Bobcat, always a Bobcat" on this board? Yeah Stevie and Asown were Bobcats to the end, but that doesn't take away my opinion of what Jaaron did for Ohio. For all intents and purposes, he did what he was asked: graduated, played good basketball and represented Ohio well (from what I can see, not what I know).

Let's not forget what JG once did to Asown, btw. Wasn't he not given a scholarship one year? Why was that OK, but these two things aren't?

I believe he got four years of scholarship but still had a year of eligibility left due to missing a year due to injury. It looked like he was going to be the odd man out, but there ended up being a scholarship available for him anyway.

Coaches do more or less tell players they should move on sometimes.

To me,"Once a Bobcat,Always a Bobcat" is not something we,on this board determine.

Its how the individual involved feels.

As I've said before,I played soccer for O.U.

I transferred to FDU in December of my junior year for academic reasons.

I wrestled for FDU,completed my undergrad degree and got my masters there.

BUT I have, and always will, be a Bobcat !

As I've also said here, one of the proudest moments of my life was getting my letter jacket, years after I left O.U.

I don't know if some of the people that left O.U. feel the same way.

It goes away when you voluntarily decide to, you know, not be a Bobcat or more aptly when you decide to be a Wolverine and not a Bobcat. Are you telling me that Tyquane Gourd or the Redhawk that shall not be named should hold the same standing in our eyes as Justin Orr, Treg Setty or Jon Smith?

This is an excellent point, IMHO. I don't recall anyone wishing Benedict Grunkemeyer well in his future endeavors when he transferred to the Yale of the West from the Harvard on the Hocking.

Tyquane Goard and the Redhawk who shall not be named also didn't graduate from Ohio.

You mean Jon Smith who quit on his team?

Yep, same one. With the obvious difference being that Jon Smith ended his playing career as a Bobcat. The quitting on his team is an entirely different issue and one, by the way, that Jaaron shares from my information. And do you think that Jon is thought of fondly in Billiken-land? You can can think of him or Jaaron or anybody however you'd like. But I have to ask, how many guys that transferred out of here do you see waving from center court when the reunions happen? I'm going to bet that Jon Smith will be one of them in a few years when that 2012 team his honored.

I loved Jon Smith as a player. I don't resent him for quitting. I didn't like it, but whatever. I just thought it was a curious addition to the post above given the way he ended his career here. He and Treg, IMO, were polar opposite cases. Both, I feel, were popular with fans, but they ended on completely different notes. Treg embraced extra post season play and played incredibly in his final games here. Jon Smith walked out on his team.

So what? Gary Trent didn't graduate from Ohio. Do you think less of him because his degree came from another institution?

It all boils down to this:

Ohio University football and basketball are in a minor league. There, I said it. We. are. a. minor. league. team. The MAC is a minor league. I've come to terms with who we are and what, as long as we are in the MAC, we always will be.

I hate this fact. I hate being in the MAC. I wish we were in a big time league that didn't have to play football on Tuesday nites in order to get on television.

So as much as I hate that Simmons and Karlis transferred, they had an opportunity to go to major league teams. Teams that know they don't have to win a conference tournament to go to post season play. Teams that play other major league teams every week. I hate to see them leave, although it appears, based on her tweets, that there may be a wee bit more to Karlis leaving than we've been told.

The fact that we are a minor league team doesn't mean I don't enjoy watching, doesn't mean I don't want Ohio to win every game. But the very best players, and the very best competition, are GENERALLY at the major league level, and I enjoy watching that just as much. Sometimes, even more.

Michigone was defeated by a "minor league" team? Boy, you learn something new every day on this board.

Beat me to it. It sure didn't feel like we were a minor league in 2010 or 2012.

Or to go historical on you, I guess Louisville and Kentucky in 1964 don't have to list their losses to OHIO in the NCAA tournament because they were actually exhibition games against a minor league team. I believe Adolph Rupp said after the 1964 game, "These guys were really good for a minor league team. Next time we have a game against them we'll have to play with our first team."
