Sometime soon, giving redshirt years is going to go away at the mid-major level. It's not worth it to watch your better players leave.

Maric is a solid player but dude couldn't guard freshman Jason Carter. What is he going to do in the Big East?

What he will do is rebound for them. Depaul started two 6'7 guys at 4-5 this year and was outside of the top 200 in giving up offensive rebounds. Maric will instantly be their best rebounder. Either way, this is another blow for the MAC overall.

He'll do what all recent DePaul players do...suck.

But then people will find ways to graduate in three years.

The better players in basketball don't redshirt anyway unless it's a medical redshirt (or a transfer) in which case there isn't much you can do anyway.

DePaul? He will experience some "big time" basketball and play Villanova and other top ranked teams in packed houses week after week. But, there's not going to be any post-season experience with DePaul.... At least Jarron's departure makes more sense from that standpoint.

The brightest ones may, and if they do, good for them. Most won't though, or that would be my guess.

I kind of get the redshirt discussion, but is it any different if you're only getting three years of their talent anyway? What I mean is, if I have a freshman who plays 2-4 minutes a game, then I get him as a senior still on my team three years later, is that any different from the freshman who redshirts, then in his fourth year (considered a junior) is a powerhouse for the team? Then maybe he graduates and moves on, maybe he stays. If he leaves, you got the same production out of him you would've received if he was a questionable redshirt player. If he stays, you get a bonus.

Very, very few would be able to do this if they wanted to. Not many have what it takes to devote the time need to D-1 basketball, an extra-heavy course load, and summer school without getting so worn out that they would not be much good either on the court or in the classroom.
