Been there. All I saw was graffiti. I wasn't scared, but I'm not going back after dark.

- The only time I ever went to the Greenery sober the cops kicked me out because they accused me of underage drinking, but couldn't prove it.

- I lived on West green for 2 years during the Trent era but only went to games from time to time on a whim.

- The first girl I ever made out with at college was a 15yr old sib during Sibs Weekend. We were in a bar, how was I to know?

- I applied to 2 schools, OU and OSU. I chose OU because high school was full of jock-worship and OSU looked like more of the same. I never followed OSU sports in college and neither did any of my friends. Hash tag blessed.

Aside from a brief appearance at Oak Fest (where I watched Jesty Beatz perform in a crowded living room), I never went to any of the "Fest" block parties in the spring. They never caught my interest like Halloween or the #Fests, as the kids call it now.

Speaking of the #Fest, Threefest was one of the best times of my life and easily a top 3 day in college, but Fourfest was not so kind to me. I got separated from my friends and made no attempt to find them. I stayed until after dark and as I was walking back up the field, I tripped and my Razr phone fell out of my pocket, but I didn't discover it was missing until the next day. I also don't know how I made it back to my apartment. It's been 10 years. My then roommate says he had some friends over when I came back. At that point, he tells me I took a second to inspect the DVD player for some reason before heading back to my room. The next morning, I borrowed his phone and drove back to the field to call my Razr and hope to hear the ringtone, but to no avail. It was a casualty of Fourfest.

Spring 2008, I snuck into Peden Stadium at night... with a girl.

My second night at school, (Winter enrollee) me and my brand new friend via registration headed down to the Convo to watch the game with his roomie, who just so happened to have his friend Jack Daniels with him. Long story short, we’re watching the game and my buddy isn’t doing so well… Finally the game ends and as we get up to leave, I turn to see my new found buddy releasing the full fury of a Technicolor scream into the Convo chair beside him… Always felt bad for that one.
Maybe it’s like the end of the movie “Chinatown.” We should probably, “Just forget it Bobcatattack. It’s Athens.”

Could fill a page but the statute of limitations for prosecution hasn't lapsed yet and I might run for public office again.

One more confessional: I was, along with my brother, a chaperone for the 2013 St. Petersburg Bowl Bus. This was the same bus that the student body president got arrested on. Fortunately, none of the kids on my bus got arrested, but definitely is my craziest bar story I tell folks about my OU experience.

That particular fella was my Freshman RA, and that was very unsurprising.

I saw a girl get one of her front teeth knocked out while chugging a bottle of Bacardi in Ryors Hall.

I sneaked into Peden with a knife right before they redid the turf to try and get a piece, but was unsuccessful.

My one summer in Athens I ended up managing the Sears on East State with two other employees, and for a short time had a small soccer field and a kiddie pool set up in the warehouse.

I intentionally spilled a beer all over myself at the Overhang so that my friend and the girl he was talking to would have to "take me to his place" to make sure I was safe.

I have a large variety of Athens bar pint glasses in my apartment.

I found one of my friends dressed in a full suit sunk in mud up to his knees in the small creek behind Ryors.

I went into the Convo late at night fairly often to shoot hoops when I lived on West Green.

A lot more, but I can't share them yet, still too fresh a graduate.

Went a little too far west, let's go SJ Earthquakes!

1. The older of my two daughters went to Oxford Tech for her first two years of college; later wised up and transferred to OHIO.

2. I got my master's degree from the Evil Empire, aka The Big Farm, aka Ohio A&M, aka O$U.

3. I have on several occasions agreed with a post made by Monroe.

4. Casa is overrated; everyone else in my family loves it, but I don't.

5. I root for Miami when they are playing out of conference.

6. I root for Marshall -- except when they are playing OHIO.

7. My brother-in-law is a Miami graduate, who now lives in a retirement community in Oxford. I enjoy visiting him and think Oxford is kind of a nice little college town. However, I also still think Miami sucks!

Story time and bumping this fantastic thread up to lighten the mood of the board.

Winter quarter of my Junior year at Ohio, I was still living in the dorms on "new" South; Weld to be exact. Being an incoming transfer after freshmen year, all of my friends were a year younger than I and underclassmen had to live on campus for 2 years, so instead of living with strangers or by myself I chose the dorms for one more year.

My best friend from OU was in love, head over heels, dying to be with this girl who lived on our floor. They had become really great friends and he thought he it was a no-brainer they would be together. One night, he decides to profess his love for her and she turns him down. I should mention he is someone who suffers from a lot of psychological disorders and treatment, takes all kinds of medication regularly and has never been in love with anyone before. He's not crazy, but he's definitely got a weird...something about him.

She turns him down and he goes off the reservation. Not in a violent way, but a total depressive meltdown. Before going back to his dorm to get a coat or anything like that, he tells us he's going to get some air outside. He's wearing nothing but a t-shirt and jeans. After about 5-10 minutes, my other roommate and I decide to go check on him. We figured he would be on the catwalks just below our floor on South Green. He's nowhere to be found.

So we call him on his cell and he tells us he's fine, he's just going to get some food. Thinking nothing of it, my friend and I head to a birthday dinner out on East State Street (I think it was at Golden Corral or Ruby Tuesday or something to that effect). After we get done celebrating, we call him again to see where he is.

Him: "I'm just walking."

Us: "Where are you walking?"

Him: "Somewhere close to the Wal-Mart on East State."

Us: "Oh good, we'll just pick you up. Where exactly are you?"

Him: "Well I passed a motel a while ago. Let me see if I can find a sign for where I am. I see a sign for Strouds Run."

Us to each other: "There's no way he's out that far..."

We get in the car, which happened to belong to the girl he was in love with, though she did not go with us to pick him up. Sure enough, the dude had walked from our dorm on South Green all the way out 50/32 past the Super 8 Motel and by the time we caught up to him he was past the Strouds Run exit 213A. In the middle of winter. Without a coat and nothing but a t-shirt.

After some coercing to get him in the car, we blasted the heat for him and gave him our coats to cover himself. The only thing he said to us on the way home was "can you stop at McDonald's." After some hysterical laughter from the two of us and also some sarcastic jabs at his stupidity, we happily obliged.

Got him back to the dorm and got him in his bed underneath as many blankets as possible to bring his body temperature back to normal. A boyfriend of one of our neighbors, who happened to be a volunteer paramedic, was there and was visibly upset that he (1) did what he did, (2) we didn't take him to the hospital and (3) that he didn't get hypothermia. He was flabbergasted.

The girl ended up talking to him the next day. She was upset that he would do that over her, for obvious reasons. They're still great friends to this day. But it's something we like to laugh about, like "hey remember that time you tried to turn yourself into Jack Frost?"

Athens and OU. There's nothing like it.

What are the statute of limitations on "stupid things you did in college that might in fact still land you in jail"???

Until that is answered ... I'll leave some of the greatest hits out.

1. Have a younger sister who graduated from Fiami. She bought me a Sweet Sixteen shirt from the Wally-run ... I never wore it.

2. We spent an evening in Reed dorm calling South Green radio and requesting they play a song by "Sistas With Balls" .... they were a horn-based band, similar to Chicago. We had the poor DJ hook-line-and-sinker .... he was frantically looking for a song to play for a few hours.

3. I've shuffled .... multiple times .... years after I graduated.

4. I had beers confiscated from me while drinking them at the bar at The Greenery. They were Natty Lights .... and the Greenery didn't serve Natty Lights. I was underage ... and they did NOT kick me out. The Greenery was maybe the most magical place on earth for underage kids.

5. I bought a Gary Trent autographed basketball off eBay .... for $8

I'll save the rest until after I seek proper counsel ....

Re: some of your thoughts....

Number 2: You're referring to when there was an actual campus radio station people listened to. Does anyone listen to ACRN anymore? Does it exist?

Number 3: I've only shuffled once. I'd love to do it again soon.

Number 4: Not just the Greenery, but also the Nickelodeon. I ask all the time, "what the heck to kids do now", without those two places. The Cheese was a foul place, with a need for "Greenery shoes", but almost a right of passage.

2. Yes ... ACRN does still exist. I was a proud Rock Lobster during my OU tenure. https://acrn.com/about /

But I was referring to the campus green radio stations. In the late 90s (not sure how long they lasted or if they still exist) each "green" had they own station that broadcast. Was pretty phenomenal.

3. I highly recommend it. Even tho there are less bars. (RIP: Night Court, Nickelodeon, Another Fools Cafe/Swindlefish, Dugout, Zachary's)

4. Yes ... the Nick was awesome. Far better than The Greenery in my opinion. Chris Logsdon used to kill it at The Nick. I loved Dad's/Mom's wknds in there ... either would see a "Dad fight" cause some other Dad pinched a daughter's ass .... or you'd see Moms going home with frat boys. Was quite a scene!

Lets see, stupid things you,or someone else did at O.U.

1.A car hit a hydrant by our dorm.
A couple of guys thought it would look nice in the hall next to their room.
The decided, why take the broken one, when the replacement was right next to it.
They were able to get it up to the second floor of the dorm, but it took a bit of work.
They weigh a minimum of 500lbs.
Stayed there all year.

2.A friend of mine's girlfriend broke up with him.
He got blitzed.
Then he got mad.
Put his arm through a wire reinforced window.
He didn't even know what he did.
He walked into my room, blood coming from everywhere and said something like "I think I cut myself".
We were able to control the bleeding and get him to the hospital.
Ended up getting back together with the girl.

3.One night I let 2 guys set off bottle rockets from the window in my dorm room.
The R.D. saw them do it.
My room,my responsibility.
I had to go before a discipline committee.
I told them I didn't set off the bottle rockets.
They asked if I knew who did. Duh,yes.
They wanted the names.
I said no.
They said it would be better for me if I told them who they were.
I asked what would happen to me if I didn't rat my friends out.
One quarter probation.
If I did ?
One quarter probation.
Yea,that made the decision real hard.

When I was at O.U. in the 1970's,many of the dorms,at least on the East Green, had their own low power radio stations.
Still remember Dj'ing on WGAM !

Well, here goes nothing:

1. Dads weekend - I was funding a night of dinner and beer drinking per my usual Dad's weekend routine. We made it to the CI at the end of the evening. My son blew chunks. I'm a bad, bad father.

2. During my Bobcat days - We were living in Atkinson on "new" south. My buddies and I decided to have a keg party on my birthday (yes, you could have them then...). We drove to Nelsonville to buy a keg of Rolling Rock...it was during a shift change there...they forgot to charge me. We drove back to Athens (with keg), gave the money we had collected to 3 other buddies, who then drove to Nelsonville and bought a keg of Rolling Rock. Epic party...still feel the least bit bad about that one.

3. 1983 NCAA Tournament - Ohio wins first round game against Illinois State on St. Patrick's Day, in their green uniforms, on a last second prayer by Tatum. My room mate and I had an exam earlier that day. Lots of celebratory Guinness followed by a bad decision...tequila shots. Confirmed report that I went down the CI stairs head-first. Friends thought I was dead. I got up laughing with beer in hand.

1. I don't really care about Miami and don't consider them, personally, to be much of a rival. I know there's history, but since I've been affiliated with OU -- which is a solid 15 years or so -- Miami and OU haven't both been strong in the same sport much. I always cared much more about basketball games vs. Kent, Buffalo, and Akron.

2. I haven't been back to Athens since the day I left with my degree. It's a long ways away and hard to do for a weekend.

3. I like Tim O'Shea and don't blame him for wanting to move back East. I moved back East, too. Also, I find the TOS to. . .joke to be tiresome.

4. I think OU's slavish devotion to playing high level football holds back the basketball program, which has a much better shot of ever actually playing at a high level consistently.

Ohhhh, the memories from Night Court! That place was the best Athens bar, in my opinion, up until the day it closed.

That #2 is fantastic!

I wonder how many people on this board can say #2 truthfully. You might be the only one.

Ohhhh, the memories from Night Court! That place was the best Athens bar, in my opinion, up until the day it closed.

Spent my final night in Athens after graduation at Night Court for karaoke night.

Was crushed to find out it turned into a "dance club" shortly after I left .... I went once and it was awful.

PS ... get off my lawn :-)

Well, here goes nothing:

1. Dads weekend - I was funding a night of dinner and beer drinking per my usual Dad's weekend routine. We made it to the CI at the end of the evening. My son blew chunks. I'm a bad, bad father.

I had to wait until we got all the way back to South Green before I told my buddies. Knowing those guys, they would have wanted to turn around and get another keg right then, but I knew that would blow our cover!
